We have Oracle 10g(10.2.0.4) RAC on AIX 5.3, there are 3 RAC instances on each node.From Oct 9th, we found one of the instance in node 1 generated a large size trace files in udump. The largest size of the trace file take up 3G. But there's only about 15G $ORACLE_BASE direcotry. After some time, we should delete some trace files for releasing the space.

I have a server with Red Hat EL 5.5 running an oracle database 10g R2 and an Oracle Agent 10.2.0.5The disk ran out of space and I realized that there are a lot of files stating with core.xxx such as :

There are more than 24 GB of those files

in nmc.log I can see lines such as:

Precompilers, OCI & OCCI :: Make Files That Compile PC Files In Unix

Jul 31, 2008

I have written make files that compile .pc files in unix. This was for several projects that use an oralib source code directory.Just running proc on one target .pc file works fine on unix. I am trying to use proc - Oracle 10.2.0 - in windows and I keep getting:

Quote:unable to open include file
#include <stdio.h>
and other C library headers.

I am doing all development under cygwin, this way I can write a makefile just like under unix instead of using nmake.All C library headers are in /usr/include When I run proc on Solaris as that:

proc program.pc
No problems, and I do get program.c.

However in windows I get the previous error message. I have tried to do proc include=/user/include program.pc and proc include=/user/include parse=full program.pc but I still get the same error message.

SQL & PL/SQL :: Timestamp In Mail Generated From Oracle Is Different

Nov 2, 2012

I have found there is a wearied of email generated from my database. I have the data base server located in US (estern time) and the sysdate in the database is AUSTRALIA (AEST). But i am working from India (IST).I have one procedure, which will send email to some recipients once the job is done. It is using UTL_SMTP for sending the email from database.

Now problem is, the email i got from this procedure has a different timestamp which is NOT matching to any of the times:

Time in Mail : 2-Nov-2012 9.56 PM
IST Time : 2-Nov-2012 10.56 AM
Easter Time : 2-Nov-2012 01.30 AM

SQL & PL/SQL :: Redo Log Generated In Materialized View

Dec 17, 2012

As we know that, MV is generating more redo logs during the FAST refresh. but i need more clarifications on that.

see the below examples:

exec dbms_mview.REFRESH ( LIST => 'mv_test', method=>'F');

PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.

select a.name, b.value
from v$statname a, v$mystat b
where a.statistic# = b.statistic#
and a.name = 'redo size';

NAME VALUE
---------------------------------------------------------------- ----------
redo size 147144

see the redo size is 147144 bytes. Immediately, i refreshed in MV view. now there is no update or insert or delete stats happened in source tables. but i do see redo log generation is high for NO DATA refresh.

select a.name, b.value-147144
from v$statname a, v$mystat b
where a.statistic# = b.statistic#
and a.name = 'redo size';

NAME VALUE
---------------------------------------------------------------- ----------
redo size 42352

For no rows refresh, it takes 42352 bytes.. why oracle generated redo logs when there is no DML operations happened in source table.

SQL & PL/SQL :: Get_hash_value Generated No Unique Values

May 8, 2012

We are using the function dbms_utility.get_hash_value to create a unique identifier, the hash is created based on statement of creating an index. We see that for a different statement is being generated the same value, which in this cause errors because this value must be unique.

The Hash is to be calculated as follows HASH_VALUE = dbms_utility.get_hash_value (sql_text, a 10000)

We are using the correct the hash function or should we use another way to generate unique values?

v_table VARCHAR2 (4000) := NULL;

SQL & PL/SQL :: Two Triggers On Same Table

Dec 4, 2010

I have to write two triggers on same table for auditing different columns of different users(may be different modules).

I will have an audit table in which i will insert data such as (user_id,module_id,column_name,old_col_val,new_col_val,timestamp)

Now different users from different modules will update the data on same table may be same columns from different front end forms!

If we write directly, we will not be able to know which column is updated by which user.

My question is in this case how can we control the triggers to raise differently?

Security :: Automatic Generated Grants On Sys_plsql_xxxx_yy_z

Nov 13, 2012

in the dba_tab_privs we can find some entries like this:

SELECT *

WHERE GRANTEE IN ('XXXXXXXX')

GRANTEE OWNER TABLE_NAME GRANTOR PRIVILEGE GRANTABLE HIERARCHY
XXXXXXXX YYYYYYYYYYY SYS_PLSQL_71964_26_1 YYYYYYYYYYY EXECUTE YES NO

Those grants were generated automatically by oracle. Is there any way to prevent Oracle to grant them? An external audit-rule tells us not to give any grant directly to user - we always have to use databaseroles.
