I ran dbstart,lsnrctl start - getting same error..i dbshut the db and use startup nomount - getting same error.

Aug 15, 2010I need some support on older version of oracle. Its 7.1 and it runs on alpha 2100 with open vms 6.1 OS. I was looking at option of alpha virtualization in sometime soon. I have set of backup hdd and one set of alpha 2100 spare machine.
But lately, just the oracle processes keeps shutting down soon unexpectly. It was complaining about couple of bad block , SO i found that objects(tables) , dropped them and created them.
After few days, it does the same thing again...The log says 'File 2 at .....needs media recovery'.....I wanted to recovery that datafile but When I try to connect using 'sqlplus' , it says
'ora: 01034: oracle not available'
'0ra-0765:$msget :$mgblsc failure'
--- no such global section
How do one recovery database or datafile without connecting to SQLPLUS?

It should be grouped for each CITY and I want to get max(RECEIVED) by descending order for each days. How can I do that?

Dec 24, 2007We installed Oracle 10g on one of our servers and configured the listener to host=localhost. Here's our listener.ora file:

After restarting the listener, we could connect using the connect identifier from the local server. However, when trying to connect from a remote client we received the error of "no listener". In the remote client the identifier is defined with host=ip_address. TNSping from the client to the host was successful.
When we changed listener.ora to host=up_address we could connect ONLY from the remote computer. Only after changing the host in tnsnames.ora file to the IP as well - we could connect from both the local server and the remote client.
I usually use host=localhost in the listener file (and the local tnsnames file) and never had this problem before.

Jul 5, 2010I have a table with an index on the file_id column, defined in the same way in a test site and a production site.The only difference of these two tables is the amoun of data contained on it.the test site table contains about a million of records.the production table contains about 17 millions of records.
When I do a select on the table in test site, it returns the information in a sorted way.however, when I do the same select on the production site, the information is received in an unsorted way.
I assume that the index in production site might need to be rebuilt, because usually a big amount of data is extracted and deleted from the table and new information is inserted constantly.this situation does not occur in test site, information change is not very usual.
if rebuilt of index would actually to get the results on a sorted way, or the only way to get it is to add an "order by" statement in the query statement.

Jun 27, 2012My problem is if i start sudo /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure i get Database Configuration failed. Look into /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/xe/config/log for detailsI use a plain installed Ubuntu 12.04 and try the instructions of the Oracle 11gR2 Express Edition on Linux Ubuntu 11.10 howto. Also i installed Ubuntu 11.10 and tryed is, but the same error happens.
On the install script i get:

Jun 4, 2013We are planning to install second instance of Oracle 11gR2 in Linux server 2.6.39-400.21.1.el6uek.x86_64 x86_64. This is something we never haven done before. The existing instance has all the standard ports:
Connecting to (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=)(PORT=1521))
Enterprise Manager Console HTTP Port (pterpdb02) = 1158
Enterprise Manager Agent Port (pterpdb02) = 3938
What ports should we select for second listener and enterprise manager? Is there anything else that we need to know before we install the second instance?
