When you drop a user profile, Oracle automatically assigns the default profile to that user - knowing that no other profile has been assigned to that user.
Does this happen in the same session or after a restart?
A user must have a profile at all times, so if a profile is dropped, then the default profile should be assigned in the same session because if not, then during that session the user has no assigned profile which shouldn't happen?

May 16, 2012I am trying to expire all user accounts belonging to a particular profile my_profile.
The first option was to utilise the utlpwdmg.sql script to update the PASSWORD_LIFE_TIME for my_profile, this worked in Oracle (11g) but caused issues with the change password feature of several applications linking to the database - this option then had to be abandoned.
The next option is to therefore to select all users in my_profile and expire the accounts, what I require is a statement to combine:
- Select USERNAME from DBA_USERS where PROFILE='my_profile';
&
- Alter USER my_user PASSWORD EXPIRE;
So that all users in my_profile have their passwords expired, not just one user my_user.

Jul 14, 2010The Scenario is that we have to restrict clients to write file on C drive for which we have to grant admin privileges(OS) which we don't wanna give. Rather they can write on their own profile.
In CMD we can find their profile with %userprofile% command,but i am confused of using it in oracle form. so is there any possibilities to redirect O/P to userprofileyour_file.txt

Aug 21, 2013I am installing Oracle 12c R1 on Windows 2012. The windows is configured as a domain controller. I am logged in as the domain administrator.I created a normal domain user -- DomainNameORACUSER. I provided this as the existing user id during Oracle installation.
The software installs fine, but when creating the DB using the database configuration assistant, an error is shown "error in process:...inoradim.exe. Enter password for Oracle service user: DIM-00019: create service error. O/S-Error: (OS 87) The parameter is incorrect". The DB is not created.
I skipped the db creation and completed the installation. When tried to create the db using the database configuration assistant after installation, I received the same error.I performed the same installation on Windows 8 and was successful in creating the db.

Jan 5, 2011we are having physical standby database and production database..we have create a soft link for a datafile in production to another mount point
ex- /disk1/data1 to /disk2/data1
now we want to keep the datafile in /disk2/data1 and remove the softlink..As we are having physical standby database . i need to know what are step to be taken. my action plan is as follows:
In production.
1. synchronise both standby(apply archive logs) and production.
2.shut down the standby
3.create controlfile in production in ascii format and edit the path (/disk1/data1 to /disk2/data1)
4. run the @control.sql that i have created
4.create a standby control file in production .
In standby:
1. take the backup of controlfile.
2.place the newly create controlfile(from production) to the location of controlfile
3. remove soft link.
4.startup mount.
5. then we can apply logs as usual to make the standby sync.
whether my action plan is 100% correct or any changes to be done.

after that i use
SQLPLUS /NOLOG
THEN i write the command to connect to user ali but
CONNECT SYS/ali as sysdba
it display following message.

ORA-1256: TNS: protocol adapter.
i also check the oracle services from "services.msc", where oracle instance is "start".

I understand that if we create a user, the schema gets created by default for that user. Does that mean that we cannot create a user/schema alone.
What if I just want to create a user and grant him some read access on an existing schema or just want to create a schema.

This scott user has a proxy permission to another DBuser PROXY_USER. Previously I used to login using below syntax.
connect scott[proxy_user]/password_for_scott@TESTDB
So now, what syntax should be used for this "ExternallY Authenticated" user to login as a proxy user?
