Tablespace usage alerts are checked every ten minutes. You can request a check every minute when you set the threshold, and confirm that this has been set:

i'm facing a problem while i'm inserting millions of record from table to table that undo tablespace reach 100% full and execution aborted. , how can free the undo tablespace ??? many of extendes are offline. will it flush automatically ??? or what i should do

Is there any separate alert.log for ASM instances?
SQL> show parameter BACKGROUND_DUMP_DEST
The above will give the dest of the alert.log for DB only?Is is the same for ASM instances? If different then where to look for.

i have a tablespace which contains 121 datafile(max limit reached) as a dba what we have to do?
creating a new tablespace with a datafile and assign the users to the current tablespace which i created now.iif the above process is correct,after some time the tablespace which was filled up got freed up.now can i give the access to the users previous (i.e. freed up tablespace) and current tablespaces

My database is OLP system.
My question is what are the advantages and disadvantages having one single tablespace versus multiple tablespace?
Easy to maintain when you have single tablespace. but hard to track the IO issues if you have one single tablespace.

I'm trying to set up alert notifications. I have to program it myself, because SE isn't allowed to do it with OEM. As far as I can see from the documentation, this should be all that is necessary:
conn / as sysdba
exec dbms_aqelm.set_mailhost(mailhost=>'127.0.0.1')
exec dbms_aqelm.set_mailport(mailport=>25)

but this gives me:

I must be missing something! Probably something very basic. There is nothing in any trace files.

I want to get clear with one thing yesterday i installed oracle9i and dev 2000 to my client.
when they run one report they got stuck with pl/sql compilation errorrep-1247
when i checked that report in the report builder, in the query they are using some other table which is not belongs to that schema,then I give that schema.tablename and compiled, but this is coming for other reports also, then only i came to know that they are acceessin other schema also, how can i sort this out.
can i fix this by givin full access privilige or what privilige can i give to get full access of other schema table.
how can i check in the old database what are all the roles and privileges given to this user,

I have one database which is recently upgraded from oracle 8.1.5 to oracle 10.2.0.4.The database is having around 300 tablespace and total size of the database is 1.5 TB.
The database was created in oracle 8i and all the teblespace were DMT(Dictionary Managed Tablespace) .Usually after up gradation all the tablespace are in DMT mode. Now my requirement is to convert all the tablespace into LMT (Locally Managed Tablespace) so that I can AVAIL ALL THE FEATURES OF LMT.
This database is a mission critical database and very less downtime can be allowed.

I tried to create an index on a large volume table(approx 9 GB) and I got the below error message:-
ORA-01652: unable to extend temp segment by 128 in tablespace TEMP
The size of our TEMP tablespace is 3GB and currently it is showing as full.
This tablespace is locally managed and we are not running any other operation on this test database at the moment.
We need to delete data from this table based on a column value, so I was planning to create an index on that column.
I saw on the net that one of the proposed solution is :-
alter tablespace TEMP default storage (pctincrease 1);
alter tablespace TEMP default storage (pctincrease 0);
alter tablespace TEMP coalesce;
but it was mentioned that this does not work with Locally Managed Tablespaces.
We are currently using Oracle 9.2.0.7.0 production release installed on Linux platform(Linux 2.6.9-89.0.25.ELsmp #1 SMP i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux)
I increased the size of TEMP tablespace to 12 GB but the index creation still failed with the same error.

most of the time i am seeing temporary tablespace issues like temp tablespace is 100% full.

on my 11.2 DB comes from time to time to situation that the temp tablespace runs full. It longs for only couple of seconds and when the dba notice it, the tablespace is already almost empty. Is it a way somehow to create like a "callback-notifier" that fires f.e. when temp tablespace is for let's say 70% full. That "callback-notifier" will run the sql-statement to look in v$session, v$sort_usage, v$process, v$parameter for the problem sessions.

1)Warning for tablespace 80% full.
2)critical for tablespace 90%full..

I am NOT a db admin but I do 'maintain' my application that runs with oracle 8i. I am now getting the error on certain workstations:
ORA-03232: unable to allocate an extent of 16 blocks from tablespace 3
I have access to DBA Studio and all the tables in the STORAGE tab show no more than 65% usage

In my database ,the size of the system tablespace is 1024M.now i found its free space is 477.875M.

My tablespace contains two datafiles dfile1.dbf and dfile2.dbf on D drive of my filesystem. Now i copied these dbf files on pasted it on a location in E drive. Now i want my tablespace to use dbf files pasted in new location.
Will i have to Alter Tablespace Add Datafile with Reuse clause
