Aug 23, 2011I have enabled Auditing in my oracle Database but I am not able to see any database for the operations of sys user or any other user in my "SYS.AUD$" and "SYS.FGA_LOG$" tables.
Value for the parameter "AUDIT_TRAIL" is set to "db,extended".
I am working as "SYS" user and I have shutdown and again startup the database but neither there was any information in both the tables nor I can see any files at the destination specified by "AUDIT_FILE_DEST".

Jul 12, 2011I have a doubt in locking user account in oracle database.I was told to drop some unusable users in database which my clients dont require them.I verified the dependent objects of those users but not sure if these users can be dropped.
Instead can i make those user accounts locked so that they cannot connect to database? Would there be any impact on database performance if i lock those user accounts?
Is locking an account and dropping users is similar in anyway?

Jun 16, 2013I know how to use database links in various forms, but I've been trying to think through how the authentication works for a connected user link in 11g. If I create the link like this,create public database link using 'orcl';then any user can use the link, provided they have an identical username/password in the two databases. With pre-11g passwords, it was understandable: the password was salted with the username, so the hash of the password would be the same in both databases, and I assumed that the logon through the link used some sort of IDENTIFIED BY VALUES mechanism. But in 11g, the salt will different in the two databases. So the hash will be different. And of course Oracle never stores the actual password. So I don't see how the authentication works.

table_1 contain records on employee and the supervisor they are under at a certain date.
As some employee(00001 & 00003) have a different supervisor from different date, I'll like to extract from table_1 the record of each employee in the table that only contain the supervisor info on the most recent date.And from table_2, i'll like to extract the employee's name. These records extracted from both the tables would the be put into a new table,table_3
Example: For employee 00001, only extract record that have the most recent date which is 04-APRIL-2004 and not on 01-MARCH-2004

Jun 22, 2011I am having a pipeline function that is called from Java interface.The function is suppose to return a list of events.If it takes too long the customer might cancel it.
I would like to catch in a log table all the information of the input param when the request is canceled.I tried to log every time the sqlcode is -1013, if I dbms_output something then it works, but if i try to call a procedure to do logging, it does not work, or if i try to insert directly in a log table also is not working.
Is it possible to catch(log) this kind of exception.

Aug 27, 2012I am trying to upgrade 10.2.0.4 DB to 11.2.0.3 using DBUA.10g oracle is owned by user ora10gr4 and 11g oracle is owned by user ora11203.I started DBUA from 11g/bin path and while selecting DB i want to upgrade I am getting following error.
Oracle home owner check failed:-PRKH-1014.Current user "ora11203" is not the owner user "ora10gr4" of oracle home "/oracle/ora10gr4"..I cannot give the ownership of both oracle home for same user because of project criteria.

How can I restrict a user to have limited sessions say 2 sessions across 4 node cluster? Presently I am checking the sessions logged in using sql+ and no connection pooling of front end etc. is involved.
