i have a problem with a syntax in sql navigator. everytime a run this sql command, this message appears:

I created a table named dept2 which is a duplicate of the dept table in scott schema.
create table dept2 as select * from dept;
after that I altered it woth the following statements :
alter table dept2 add ddate date;
alter table dept2 modify deptno unique;
all operations were successful , now when I execute the following ddl statements :
alter table dept2
add constraint xx unique (loc,dname)
add constraint yy check (mod (deptno,10) =0) disable
modify ddate default sysdate
modify deptno number (5)
drop unique (deptno)
I get the error : SQL Error: ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended
when I remove the statement of drop unique (deptno) it works

am learning the Oracle PL/SQL language using CBT Nuggets tutorials and practicing what I learn. I seem to be getting confused with the ROUND function...For example, what am I doing wrong in this statement:

What I am trying to do is get my report to list every room in the table even if there is nothing scheduled in the room for the selected date. I add a command to the report to force the left outer join but I keep running into errors. This is how I have it worded:

Someone else suggested that I change the IN/TO wording in the last line to BETWEEN/AND. When I do that it gives me an error stating that the table or view does not exist.
I am trying to update a field with another field form a different table but get this error on the sql I have attempted.

I am facing a problem regarding the execute immediate command. I have created a procedure as given below

In this procedure the execute immediate command shows error ( if i avoid exception).I have tried other syntax too of this command

I have added a text field on forms 6i which calls reportAfter adding the new field called "appeal_name" it gave me the desired result for two three times and somehow after that it started to throw this error
ORA- 00933. I did try to find solution on the web and was given the hint that this occurs due to space or indentation in the coding. I have used Ltrim and Rtrim to remove any space when I added the text field "appeal_name", Following code has been added

I have a form which will call another and do some transactions and come back to original form and do other processes. save if successful. or roll back with error message.i m doing POST when i exit from the called form. and continue process in calling form. if any error, i m raising an error message with rollback.
But sometimes, it is getting committed with that error trn. especially in new database, first time try the scenario, it any error comes then getting commited.I m not able to find where the commit is happening? if any other sessions commit will affect this trn?
When i try to copy a table within the database i get insufficient priv error.

tried installing oracle 10g in ubuntu. i am successful with the oracle installation.i am able to login to sqlplus using oracle OEM,but when i try to login through command prompt , i get the following error:

I'm working with sqlldr and i try to insert data from a csv file to a CTL file. One field of my table contains 5 characters but one row has 6 characters in this field, so it's rejected by oracle. (Logical, you can't insert 6 chars in a 5 chars field)
an error is visibly returned, so i wondered how you could catch the value of this error?is it a code? a message?
I'd like to add to my script a condition so that the end of the script would continue even if this error code is returned for that CTL execution.

I have a need to use the Alias name of a column within the same select statement( because I can't have another select statement using the first select as table - BO tool limitation).
Ex:
Select dept_id, agency, sum(quantity) as "sum_qty"
where sum_qty > 500;
Currently oracle won't allow using alias name Sum_qty in the same select statement. Is there a way to use alias within the same select statement?
Is there any way through which we can put forth a condition on Alias name instead of column name in a table.
For example: Select emp_name "Employee Name" fom dual where emp_id is not null;
Instead can there be a workaround so I can put "Employee Name" in where clause?

Now I need to create an alias for the Name field. Here is my attempt:

This attempt pulls up all the records instead of just Smith records. How I can create an alias for the Name field in my above query?
