SQL Error: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character to number conversion error

I can't seem to find a tool that will let me step into the actual stored procedure line by line to see where the error occurs. It mentions line 173, which seems to be a red-herring, as line 173 is simply one of the 'END IF' lines within this block:

Aug 4, 2011I got a string in the form 1+2+4.If we write select 1+2+4 from dual;then we get o/p as 7.but the same thing iam trying to do in a bit of pl/sql program by passing the string 1+2+4 value to a number variable as below.
COUNT_TASK := TO_NUMBER(TASK6_STATUS);
TASK6_STATUS value is 1+2+4 (this thing i got by replacing the string and lots of stuff) but i need the result after adding these 3 numbers in the string. and i declare COUNT_TASK as NUMBER;and i am very well aware that it gives me the error ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character to number conversion error
how to add these numbers in my program to get the result 7.

While changing character-set from AL32UTF8 to WE8MSWIN1252 got "ORA-12712: new character set must be a superset of old character set".
Below are steps taken to resolve the issue -
ALTER DATABASE CHARACTER SET WE8MSWIN1252;
i got this error: ORA-12712: new character set must be a superset of old character set
below are the commands executed by me:
SQL> SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE;
SQL> CONNECT SYS/password AS SYSDBA;
SQL> STARTUP MOUNT;
SQL> ALTER SYSTEM ENABLE RESTRICTED SESSION;
SQL> ALTER DATABASE OPEN;
SQL> ALTER DATABASE CHARACTER SET INTERNAL_USE WE8MSWIN1252;
SQL> SHUTDOWN;
SQL> STARTUP;
SQL> QUIT;
And its working...
I have not done it in proper order. Neither have done ccsscan. Still, no user reported any issues. Do my changes truncated the data?

Where POINTNUMBER is six thousand different values My query only returns me the maximum of a single record:
SELECT * FROM table1 WHERE value = (SELECT MAX (value) FROM table2);
And the update:

so does on a single record.That needed to maximize each pointnumber different? I can use a cursor to do this easier?

If I change the mask to FM990D9999 1=> 1.
I would like to have a zero leading when it's 0.49 but also no decimal when it's an integer => 1

Jun 28, 2012I'm trying to update a number field on an apex page by summing up the values of multiple page items. I've tried to follow this tutorial

especially the "Create a Set Value Dynamic Action Using PL/SQL" part.
In the tutorial example they return an page item value P3_SAL multiplied by a multiplier they've determined by another page item's case. What I want to do is much simpler in that I just want to add up multiple page item values and then display them in a number field at the bottom of the page.
so the code I tried to use based on the tutorial is in the tab: Home >Application Builder>Application 103>Page 3>Edit Dynamic Action>Create / Edit Action

Inserting Character From Extended ASCII Character Set?
Mar 8, 2007I'm trying to insert a character from the extended ascii character set. Specifically, there's a company that has an accented e (�) in the name. Right now, the company name doesn't have the e at all, accent or no accent. So I'm trying to do an update, something like
update table1 set company_name='blah�" where company='blah'
It runs, but doesn't do the update. Even when I try to forcefully do an insert (instead of an update) I get nowhere; the accented is simply dropped. So the basic question is, how do you insert extended ascii characters into oracle?

Feb 9, 2013I am using C++ OCI LIB, to insert some report data from remote OCI client to oracle 11 server. This data is read by another process to create the report.The DB CHARSET is UTF-8. But the report tool expects the data to be ISO08859-1 encoded. So while inserting the data into the database i specify the following LANG and CHARSET for my table colulmn in client:

This solution works for almost every case of ASCII and Extended ASCII Charest but we are facing issues if we have few specific characters to be inserted.f we are trying to insert single beta character [β] through client, the data goes empty to the column.

May 3, 2013I have a table where i need to update one field values based on another field of the same table , simply as it is.I have done this using one select all check box , on clicking that all check boxes of item_trans table will get selected , then i will un select some of check box and then using one button, i will update the value of the fields which are checked only.

I have a tab named APPROPRIATIONS it has 10 fields. Among which is PROJECT NUMBER, AUTHORIZAION DATE (CALENDER TYPE POPUP), And FUNDS CHECK FLAG.
The Scenario is depending upon PROJECT NUMBER the Fields are Populated including FUNDS CHECK FLAG .
But the AUTHORIZAION DATE is a MANDATORY field has to be filled by User
The Requirement is to make AUTHORIZAION DATE as MANDATORY only when the FUNDS CHECK FLAG is *"BLANK "* or *“Y”*
If the FUNDS CHECK FLAG is *“N”* then the AUTHORIZAION DATE to be made OPTIONAL.
