SQL & PL/SQL :: Function To Pass Through Authentication
Oct 24, 2010
I wrote many functions before, but NEVER a function to pass through authentication...Here are some of the specs ...In this example, an institution will be accepting tuition and fee payments against bills that are stored in the our system. In addition to the minimum bill authentication parameters, the institution would like to pass us a full name to display when welcoming the user, control the users primary e-mail address, and restrict the payment method on a per user basis.
URL url This will be issued to you by your project manager. It should be of the form URL....
User Id user_id The unique identifier for the user within the institution. This is typically a student ID. (in our database)
Full Name full_name Users full name. Example "John Smith". (in our database) Email Address email Primary email address. in (our database) Payment Method paymentMethod Payment methods allowed for this user.
Allowed values:
"none" :no payments accepted
"ach" :ach is the only accepted
"cc" :credit cards only accepted
"ach_cc" :credit card and ach 16
Key key The shared key that is issued to you by your project manager.Time Zone tz The time zone you are located in. Valid values are:
"E" :Eastern time zone
"C" :Central time zone
"M" :Mountain time zone
"P" :Pacific time zone 1
[code]....
I know I need to have cursor to check on the user_id, full name, email (those values are store in our DATABASE. The URL and the key are giving to me. Do I have to hard code the url in the cursor and stored in a variable so I can check that the url coming in (url in varchar2) is equal to the url in my cursor? The same with the key?

there is a way when doing the Rank Function in PL/SQL to pass the field that will be ranked as an override.
SELECT rank(p_ColumnAmt) within group (order by p_ColumnNm desc) rank
INTO v_RnkNoAmt
FROM Table_name
WHERE ??????;
p_Column is the amount I am ranking
p_ColumnNm is the actual field name to Rank.
When I pass the field name with an override I do not get the correct rank back. If I run the Select with the actual field name curr_1_mth_amt, I get the correct rank.
I have about 70 different field to Rank and do not want to make a procedure for each field.

I have to create a function which count the max id in the provided table.
For example: I have two table customer and book
and
create or replace function Row_Count(tab_nam) return varchar2 is
CONTR_NO varchar2;
begin
select NVL(MAX(t.contract_num), 0) + 1
INTO CONTR_NO
FROM tab_nam t;
return(CONTR_NO);
end Row_Count;
when I call
Function( customer) ;
or
Function( book) ;
It should tell the max number with addition of one.

select 3 as t from dual union all
select 4 as t from dual union all
select 5 as t from dual
)

OS authentication is not working
Does 11g need any different setting?
Following are the settings
1)
SQL> show parameter os_a
NAME TYPE VALUE
------------------------------------ ----------- --------------
os_authent_prefix string OPS$
remote_os_authent boolean FALSE
2) sqlnet.ora has following setting
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NTS)
3) I have created user like following
sql> create user OPS$CLASS
2 identified externally
3 default tablespace user_data
4 temporary tablespace temporary_data
5 profile clas_prof
6 account unlock;
user created.
sql> grant connect to OPS$CLASS;
Grant succeeded.
With the same settings it successfully connects from my 9i client to the 9i database

We are facing an surprising problem in oracle 10g database. Previously we are able to connect our Oracle 10g database using os authentication with "sqlplus / as sysdba" command. Last wednesday in our linux server maximum number of processes have overflowed and we need to increase the soft limit of our linux server. After that without restarting database every applications [OID 10g] are working fine. But, we are not able to connect with system using OS authentication. It is showing following.

We like to integrate the window LDAP to a new oracle database for user authentication. For example, this is a new test database and we don't have any users created.Now we like to figure out if we created the users with same id as in LDAP userid, how they can be authenticated externally by LDAP. I read and heard some info on OID provided by oracle but need some more step by step info to experiment.

I'd like to have my 11g database authenticate users against an OpenLDAP service. We'd still create accounts in the database, and do authorization within the database, but I'd just want to the user's passwords authenticated externally, against the OpenLDAP service. Is this possible? My searching through these forums and Google seems to indicate that you can do it if you run an Oracle Internet Directory (OID) service. I do not want to have to install and maintain an Oracle Internet Directory service. I'd like to do it without it.
I have a working PL/SQL function (below) that can authenticate a passed in username & password against our OpenLDAP directory. Is there any way for me to have Oracle call this function for the database user authentication? Or is there any other way for me to get the Oracle database to directly authenticate against OpenLDAP without having to run OID?
create or replace function ldap_authenticate(username varchar2, password varchar2)
return boolean is
begin
begin
if dbms_ldap.success = dbms_ldap.simple_bind_s(
[code]........

We are close to successfully getting our CAS authentication integrated with Apex Listener 2.0 and Apex 4.2.1. We are using Weblogic app server for the Listener configurations and have been able to get the remote_user passed to Apex after login to CAS. We just set the header variable in the new 'HTTP Header Variable' authentication scheme. However there is a glitch at the callback from CAS -- we get the error 'wong number of types of arguments in call' and the URL shows: ..... /apex/apex_authentication.callback.
I see the documentation about this CALLBACK procedure, but am not sure how to set it to go back to the application. I know that CAS is working and passing the userid to the application because I can manually type in the app URL .... /apex/f?p=xxx and I immediately get into the application and the correct userid is identified --whereas initially when I hit the same application it sends me to our Central CAS server for login.
where the parameters of this procedure need to be set and how to set them. I assume the procedure needs to be called by Weblogic?for the callback to find the original calling application so it doesn't have to be 'hard-coded'. I see that one of the parameters is 'p_app_id'. I think our Weblogic engineer was assuming the call to that procedure would 'take care' of the return to the original calling application but obviously we have missed some configuration.

I get the above error while trying to connect using sqlplus.
I know that I have got all the setting correct, as this server is set up exactly the same as another 3 server that I have set up, and those server work ok.
I have placed wire-shark (while the radius server is on another m/c as wire-shark on windows can not monitor the loop-back) onto the Oracle server, too see what it is saying too the Radius server, but it is not talking too it at all, so how can it get a error of ORA-28035, when it not even talking too the Radius server.
I have also set TRACE_LEVEL_CLIENT and TRACE_LEVEL_SERVER too 16, but I can not see anything useful in the log file.

We have an issue regarding OS level authentication to access Oracle 11gR2(11.2.0.1) database.
Our environment -
UNIX - AIX 5.3 (OS user id password is having kerberos security).
Oracle 11.2.0.1 (32 bit client) installed in server 1
Oracle 11.2.0.1 (64 bit server) installed in server 2.
Everything works fine when we created a general userid test_db in the database and connect through sqlplus test_db@dbname.
But when we try to use the option of OS level authentication using "sqlplus /", it throws following error and could not be connected.
ERROR: ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
I have created the same OS user name in database (with external password authentication) with prefix OPS$. we have set ORACLE_SID as well.

I know how to use database links in various forms, but I've been trying to think through how the authentication works for a connected user link in 11g. If I create the link like this,
create public database link using 'orcl';
then any user can use the link, provided they have an identical username/password in the two databases. With pre-11g passwords, it was understandable: the password was salted with the username, so the hash of the password would be the same in both databases, and I assumed that the logon through the link used some sort of IDENTIFIED BY VALUES mechanism. But in 11g, the salt will different in the two databases. So the hash will be different. And of course Oracle never stores the actual password. So I don't see how the authentication works.

When a user is renamed in Active Directory, they can no longer connect to the Oracle DB thru OS authentication. There is no OID/DIP integration.
sqlnet.ora
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NTS)
NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, HOSTNAME)
NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN = cal.com.br
create user "CALRENATOH" IDENTIFIED EXTERNALLY
GRANT CREATE SESSION TO "CALRENATOH"
AD User CALRENATOH can connect to DB as 'sqlplus /'
But after renaming AD User CALRENATOH to CALRENATOH1 and dropping DB user CALRENATOH and creating DB user CALRENATOH1 drop user "CALRENATOH"; create user "CALRENATOH1" IDENTIFIED EXTERNALLY;
Now OS authentication 'sqlplus /' fails 'ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied'..Once I recreate the DB user with old AD user name 'CALRENATOH', OS authentication succeeds. create user "CALRENATOH" IDENTIFIED EXTERNALLY;
C:Windowssystem32>set username
USERNAME=RENATOH1
C:Windowssystem32>sqlplus /@rmlab001
