Before Swaping:

After Swapping:

Columns Values
TABLE1.IDENTIFIER CHI1234567

SQL & PL/SQL :: Avoid ORA-38104 - Columns Referenced In The ON Clause Cannot Be Updated

May 9, 2012

this is my test data :

create table tab_1(c1 number,c2 number,c3 number);
create table tab_2(c1 number,c2 number,c3 number,c4 number,c5 number,c6 number);
insert into tab_1 values(1,1,1);
insert into tab_1 values(2,2,2);
insert into tab_2 values(1,1,1,3,3,3);
insert into tab_2 values(2,2,2,4,4,4);

The final result would be, update columns c1,c2,c3 from table tab_1 whith the values of columns c4,c5,c6 from tab_2 where tab_1(c1,c2,c3) exist in tab_2(c1,c2,c3).

My first aproach was :

merge into tab_1
using (select c1,c2,c3,c4,c5,c6 from tab_2) tab_2
on (tab_1.c1=tab_2.c1 and
tab_1.c2=tab_2.c2 and
tab_1.c3=tab_2.c3
)

[code]....

but gets error : ORA-01779

create table temp_table as
select tab1.c1,
tab1.c2,
tab1.c3,
tab2.c4 new_1,

[code]....

SQL & PL/SQL :: Which Projects Stored In Tables Not Updated On Consecutive Days

Aug 7, 2013

I have a table (tblProject) with the following fields:

Project_ID, Project_Name, Update_Date

I need to look back over the last week to find out which of the projects stored in the above tables haven't been updated on consecutive days day.

For example i would expect to see:

14, Streamline, 01/08/2013
14, Streamline, 02/08/2013
14, Streamline, 03/08/2013
14, Streamline, 04/08/2013
14, Streamline, 05/08/2013
14, Streamline, 06/08/2013
14, Streamline, 07/08/2013
15, Bonus, 01/08/2013
15, Bonus, 03/08/2013
15, Bonus, 04/08/2013
15, Bonus, 05/08/2013
15, Bonus, 07/08/2013

The code should identify that the 'Bonus' project missed updates on 02/08/2013 and 06/08/2013. Should be a simple enough piece of code for an experienced developer i'm sure

SQL & PL/SQL :: What Is Being Inserted / Updated In Database Currently

Apr 2, 2011

I wanted to know if there is a way to keep track of what is being inserted/updated in the database currently.

I tried psoug website and SQL_Trace at orafaq (I cannot post the links) but those are useful when you want to see what happens with your queries in a session... When I tried to modify an outer session by its id I couldn't find any trace file that could've been generated (and its impossible to change "tracefile_identifier" in an outer session)

There is an application that is customized by me and it inserts some additional records into the DB in its backend functionality to which I do not have an access (I mean I don't have any source of the backend code), so if I need to see what are the inserts being made, I have to do that directly from the oracle level. I've heard that it is possible and easy to do in MySQL (but I never used that DBMS).

SQL & PL/SQL :: How To Add A CHECK CONSTRAINT To Compare Info In 2 Tables

Jan 27, 2011

I need to alter a table to check that the data in a column is contained in a similar column in another table.

I have a STORES table and a STORE_REP table. Both tables have a column REP_ID.

I need to add a CHECK constraint into the STORES table to make sure that the info entered into its REP_ID column matches an entry in the STORE_REP table.

Both have a NUMBER(5) data type.

Will it make any difference if the REP_ID column in the STORE_REP table was originally created with a VARCHAR2(5) data type and was later converted to NUMBER(5), while the REP_ID column in the STORES table was created as NUMBER(5) when that table was created?

Server Administration :: Check Tables Located In Which Datafiles?

Aug 6, 2010

would want to check which tables located in which datafiles.

Tried with this command:
select B.FILE_NAME from dba_segments a, dba_data_files b
where a.header_file=b.file_ID and segment_name='TABLE_NAME'

Seems like it only shows 1 datafile. Some tables are large and i suppose it's resided in more than 1 datafile.

Forms :: Update Database Item When Non-database Item Is Manually Updated?

Mar 10, 2011

I am having trouble changing a non-displayed field when a displayed field is changed.

When a user wants to un-assign a territory they want to just null the ID field (non-database item). I then need to null the PIDM field(not visible, database item) for that one record.

I tried this, but I end up putting null on all the records instead of just the one record, which ends up un-assigning all the territories not just the one.

Is there a way to assign the null to the PIDM field associated to the ID field of that particular record.

How To Find Which Table Inserted Most Recently

Sep 21, 2013

I am using an Oracle Forms application. When you click a check-box in the form and save it,a record is inserted to a log table, they say.  The DB schema has over 1000 tables and over50 log tables. Is there way using the data dictionaly to find out which table was inserted tomost recently? I don't have access to the Forms code. My goal is to find out the table that the Form inserted the log entry to.

SQL & PL/SQL :: Compare 2 Tables Based On 2 Columns

Oct 19, 2010

My tables looks like this:

Desc Table A (account)
Account1_id
Account2_id
name,
empid

Table B (Bill )
BillNo
Advertiserid
agencyid
total vvalue

I need to pick up total value from table B where the unique combination of advertiser-Agency id is the same as the given account1_id -Account2_id combination in table A for each employee id.

In other words my output should be like

Empid | Account_id (should be same as advertiserid)| Account2_id (same as agencyid) | sum(total_value) for this adv-agency combination.....

objective: Get the total value from table B for each unique account1-account2 combination (advertiser-agency in other words) .

I am not sure if I should use a correlated subquery or how to handle the situation....Right now I am just checking the two columns separately like this:

select.......from a,b
where b.advertiser_id = a.account1_id and b.agencyid = b.account2id

Is it correct to do so? I have a feeling that I am missing something if I join them separately like this.

PL/SQL :: How To Retrieve Information About Columns Of Tables

Nov 16, 2012

I am trying to get information about the columns of tables in Oracle databases. In MySQL, show columns provides good deal of information.But in Oracle, we do not have such equivalent call."describe" shows only the primary key.

But it does not show whether any column has unique constraint or an index.

I created a column in a table with unique constraint (but not a primary key), but it was not listed with CONSTRAINT_TYPE = 'U' in dba_constraints view, but was listed with CONSTRAINT_TYPE = 'C' - Check constraint.

The DBA informed us to remove the unnecessary columns .. Does those empty columns have any impact on the chaining.If we increase the size of DB block to 32k . does it will resolve the issue.

PL/SQL :: Merge / Update With Multiple Tables And Columns

Sep 6, 2013

I am trying to update multiple columns from one table based on the results of another table So I have 3 tables as follows

HISTORYSUMM_SNAPADM_CHOICE
My SQL code is loosely SELECT SUM(H.HIS1),
SS.SNAP1,
AC.ADM1FROMHISTORY H,
SUMM_SNAP SS,ADM_CHOICE ACWHERE H.HIS2=SS.SNAP2AND SS.SNAP3=AC.ADM2GROUP BY SS.SNAP1,
AC.ADM1

 This works, and I am able to SUM the column as I need with the right numbers.  I altered the SUMM_SNAP table and now I want this summarized column to be in the table I tried using UPDATE, but there is no FROM clause to let me do the table join/group by

UPDATE SUMM_SNAPSET SUMM_SNAP.SNAP3=SUM(H.HIS1)FROMHISTORY H,
SUMM_SNAP SS,ADM_CHOICE AC
WHERE H.HIS2=SS.SNAP2AND SS.SNAP3=AC.ADM2
GROUP BY SS.SNAP1, AC.ADM1

The above is obviously wrong - but just trying to show whatI was thinking What would be the best method to get the numbers from the SUM into a table?

SQL & PL/SQL :: Cursor Select For Update / Multiple Columns Of Different Tables

Apr 8, 2010

i have two tables test1 and test2. i want to update the column(DEPT_DSCR) of both the tables TEST1 and TEST2 using select for update and current of...using cursor.

I have a code written as follows :

DECLARE
v_mydept1 TEST1.DEPT_CD%TYPE;
v_mydept2 TEST2.DEPT_CD%TYPE;
CURSOR C1 IS SELECT TEST1.DEPT_CD,TEST2.DEPT_CD FROM TEST1,TEST2 WHERE TEST1.DEPT_CD = TEST2.DEPT_CD AND TEST1.DEPT_CD = 'AA' FOR UPDATE OF TEST1.DEPT_DSCR,TEST2.DEPT_DSCR;
[code].......

The above code when run says that it runs successfully. But it does not updates the desired columns[DEPT_DSCR].

It only works when we want to update single or multiple columns of same table...i.e. by providing these columns after "FOR UPDATE OF"
I am not sure what is the exact problem when we want to update multiple columns of different tables.

Dumping Relevant Data From Columns Of Different Tables - Report / Join

Nov 18, 2008

As the title of this topic illustrates, i'm having trouble dumping relevant data from columns of different tables. I am using isql*plus. I have three tables appropriatly related. A 'course' table, 'student' and 'next_of_kin' tables. I have many students enrolled on various courses but only a hanfull of courses offer the module option 'Database Systems'. I have no 'module' table but i know the three course names which provide the module option. I intend on producing a report hich lists all students enrolled on the courses which provid the module option 'Database Systems'.

I have attempted the report but i keep getting a 'cartesian product' displaying all next_of_kin names instead of the appropriate. Also i am struggling to come up with the right WHERE statement to depict only the three courses which provide the module option 'Database Systems' as defined by 'courseNo' in both 'course' and 'student' tables.

Here is the most recent attempt:

--set echo off
--set pagesize 24
--set feedback off
--set linesize 78
col A format 99999999 heading 'Student No'

[code]...
