Replication :: Should Target DB In Replication Be In Archive-log Mode

Do people leave the target database in archive-log mode? Do they backup the target database?

Replication :: Error During Add New Master In Not Acquiescing Mode
Oct 27, 2008I have a multimaster replication between 2 sites (BASE1 and BASE3). BASE1 is the master definition site. I want to add a new master site without acquiescing the master group (named GM_ADMINISTRATEUR).
First, I have used the script provided by Oracle :
DBMS_REPCAT.SPECIFY_NEW_MASTER (
gname => 'GM_ADMINISTRATEUR',
master_list => 'BASE2.WORLD' );
and
DBMS_REPCAT.ADD_NEW_MASTERS( ....);
The first time, I had Errors, so I use the command
DBMS_REPCAT.UNDO_ADD_NEW_MASTERS_REQUEST
and I drop the master site BASE2 (connected as repadmin to BASE2 site).
The master site BASE2 is not present at BASE1 master definition site, The master repgroup is not present at BASE2 BUT, the master site BASE2 is always present at BASE3 master site. I think that the command UNDO_ADD_NEW_MASTERS_REQUEST undo the changes on BASE1 (the master definition site) but don't undo the changes on the site BASE3.
And now, when I want redo the add_new_masters, the command
DBMS_REPCAT.ADD_NEW_MASTER
return a error on the command ADD_NEW_MASTER in the DBA_REPCATALOG for the following reason:
ORA-00001: violation de contrainte unique (SYSTEM.REPCAT$_REPSCHEMA_PRIMARY)
ORA-06512: � "SYS.DBMS_REPCAT_UTL", ligne 4484
ORA-06512: � "SYS.DBMS_REPCAT_RPC", ligne 1758
And I can't continue because the new master site BASE2 does not appear at BASE1 master definition site. I think I have to drop the master site BASE2 at the master site BASE3, but I dont know how to do this.

Jun 22, 2009I am trying to move my archive from linux to window as the log switch occur.... for this i mount my directory of window in linux .. but it doesn't moving... dest 1 on linux and dest 2 for windows...
In alert log the permission denied appears... the mounted directory in linux of windows is owned by root ... and is not changing to oracle.

Replication :: Selective Incremental Replication Between Two Instances?
Aug 4, 2009I have one 10g database in other country. I want part of their db (selected tables or tablespaces) and import that data to my 10g DB and i want keep to date this data.
I know two ways
1. Data Pump Imp/Emp via FTP, but i can't send only data that have changed (incremental), i must pumping whole selected part of database (i want only new data from their DB, but consistanse with my DB)
2. RMAN etc. or other archivisation tool, i can do incremental achivisation, but can i send files to another instances (my db) and load only that data? Can i do that with SQL*Loader?

Jan 14, 2011I need to set up replication between three 10g R2 databases.There will be one main database where the data will flow into two small databases. A little bit of information will flow back from these smaller databases into the main one.
I have been asked to evaluate ODI as an option. Unfortunately I cannot use Golden Gate due to the cost.I've had a play with ODI and it looks like it's all done on a GUI where I would much prefer to be using command line scripts for setup and monitoring.
It also looks like ODI is more geared to integrating data from many different sources but I'm just going from Oracle to Oracle so don't know if it's a bit overkill.
I'm thinking of just looking at CDC which I can set up with scripts and looks to be the basis behind ODI anyway (when it comes to taking data from Oracle) - again. I may even go down the streams route that I have used before.

When I start RMAN backup through Symantec net backup tool same is failing. when I see in log file below error message is recorded in the same.

Oracle 11gR1 RAC + ASM database. I'd like to implement ARCHIVELOG mode. Each node will have its own archive log.
Does it make sense to place archivelogs on ASM (shared storage)? Or the best practice would be to have some aside "BACKUP" server to place and keep archivelogs from all the RAC nodes there?
Additional question is about archive logs space required estimation. If it's correct to know estimate archive logs space required to get the daily avg number of switch logs
