New to oracle FAQ. I'm interested in oracle, waiting to explore more Technic's in 10g with a proper guidance. Hope i'm in the right place.Here is my question.
I need steps for configuring rman cloning with catalog & without catalog.were in prod db the source is in /u01 & in auxiliary db the client want in /u05. how to do it. here i have recreate control file or not
i have a task to do do a sanity backup just to check the backup is recoverable or not , but i failed to install the agent in my server due to we have a HP DATA Protector for a backup and my manager told me i need to take the backup from HDP not as i always do take the backup on disk and then move this backup on test server and do a task cloning ,i do the cloning by rman but the backup on tape drive , i mean by rman open a channel to take the backup from PROD to TEST?
We need to test mean time to restore from rman backup. So can we restore the data file to new location on the same server without effecting the Database.?
Oracle 10.2.0.5Linux 5I am creating a duplicate database using RMAN based on Oracle's documentation. I was successful up to running the duplicate command.Here is my command:DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE vlab pfile='/<complete path of pfile>'; When I run the command, it tries to read from the backup files on production database - which is on anotehr node.Before then, I had backup piece copied to the node with the duplicate database.I ran this command to catalog the backup piece:catalog start with '/<complete path to backuppiece>'Error: no files to be unknown to the database On the other hand, when I run the command without cataloging the backuppiece, I get this error:

I have a doubt in RMAN. The scenario is: We take online backup on all days and offline backup on Sunday only. My question is do i need to copy the archives also in offline backup?
What happens when i shutdown the database (the database is in archivelog mode) and alter the database to be in noarchivelog and open the database to do offline backup.
I am trying to clone a database on another server with different direcory structure. So that path on the source db server are /u04 whereas on on target db server it would be /u03.
Since this I am testing it on small database initially I have kept all datafiles, backup and archivelogs at /u04 and /u03 on the source and target db servers respectively Now I have copied the backups from source db server to target and since path is changed, I cataloged it
However during restore I am getting
Quote:ORA-19870: error reading backup
Here are the session details
RMAN> catalog start with '/u03/oradata/db7fra'; searching for all files that match the pattern /u03/oradata/db7fra List of Files Unknown to the Database ===================================== File Name: /u03/oradata/db7fra/DB7/archivelog/2011_03_15/o1_mf_1_16_6qyvpb3w_.arc File Name: /u03/oradata/db7fra/DB7/backupset/2011_03_15/o1_mf_annnn_TAG20110315T123018_6qypyv5v_.bkp

I have altered permissions on the backup files as well but of no use

I have an oracle autoback of controlfile and spfile. I am trying to restore the production database using this backup, into a new server with a different directory structure.
I have completed the following steps in the restore process.
1. Creating a pfile from spfile
2. Changing the the location of cdump, udump, bdump and the control files ( there are three )
3. Then creating a spfile from this pfile
I am stuck on the next step where to rename all the datafiles and tempfile and restore the database. Following is what I did.
After mounting the database in RMAN, tried to run the following.
RMAN> run 2> { 3> allocate channel c1 device type disk 4> ; 5> @/home/oracle/rman_scripts/newloc.rman 6> SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 1 TO '/u02/oradata/dorian/system01.dbf'; 7> SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 2 TO '/u02/oradata/dorian/undotbs01.dbf'; 8> SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 3 TO '/u02/oradata/dorian/sysaux01.dbf'; 9> SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 4 TO '/u02/oradata/dorian/users01.dbf';
[code]....
I am getting the following error message.
Starting restore at 25-JAN-2012 21:26:48 released channel: c1 RMAN-00571: =========================================================== RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS =============== RMAN-00571: =========================================================== RMAN-03002: failure of restore command at 01/25/2012 21:26:49 RMAN-06026: some targets not found - aborting restore RMAN-06100: no channel to restore a backup or copy of datafile 30 RMAN-06100: no channel to restore a backup or copy of datafile 29 RMAN-06100: no channel to restore a backup or copy of datafile 28
i have started cloning the database thru RMAN on my personal machine .the problem now is the database which i tried to clone and the database for which i was doing this task both are not working.I tried changing the database name and log file name using the parameters
db_file_name_convert= log_file_name_convert=
the main database files are on disk1 and the clone database files are on disk2...i have restored the controlfile by command
>alter database recover using backup controlfile ; after some time its giving cannot alter and giving message that system datafile needs recovery even i tried > alter database recover automatic not worked then i used the command
>> alter database recover using backup controlife until cancel;it gave message saying change generated so i cancelled the recovery and tried to open the database using RESETLOGS even now its giving the message SYSTEM file needs media recovery
While cloning using RMAN DUPLICATE command, one can convert all files from various locations to new locations by using DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT. One can also retain the same locations with no conversion by using NOFILENAMECHECK. My question is what if I want to convert some, and not convert others?

I am new to Oracle, like to get clarified on below;
O.S Version HP-UX B.11.31 U ia64 Oracle DB Version 11.2.0.3.0 Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production Scenario :
Using RMAN Active cloning to duplicate a RAC database from Production to Development environment.
Problem:
At the end of the cloning the below errors are reported; RMAN-00571: =========================================================== RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS =============== RMAN-00571: ===========================================================

How to prevent the error of RMAN-06054: media recovery requesting unknown archived log for thread with sequence and starting SCN of while performing the RMAN Active Cloning? I do NOT want to use UNTIL clause.
As I understand we can't clone database across platform using Rman, as Rman backup taken on say Unix is useless to be recovered on Windows. Though I think of Export and Import, will copying the datafiles, logfiles, controlfile will serve purpose for cloning across platform?
Note that I do not mean Transportable tablespace here. Only copying cold backup across platform
I have 2 databases. Primary ( DB1 ) and Standby ( STBY1 ). My standby database went kaput, and i have as a result deleted the standby database in order to re-create it from a full primary backup.
Oracle 10g R2 on Server 2003.
I have followed several guides, and at this time i have done the following:
- Configured standby re-do logs on primary - backed up current controlfile for standby - backed up database plus archivelog - configured the tnsnames [code].........
The problem is here. I connect to RMAN from standby
rman nocatalog connect target sys/password@ DB1 connect auxiliary / run{ set until scn xxx; duplicate target database for standby dorecover; }
I receive an error message saying that it cannot find the file location of the backups that its trying to find. I see in the error that it tries to look locally for
E:FLASH_RECOVERY_AREA DB1 BACKUPSET2013_02_12), however the actual location is (E:FLASH_RECOVERY_AREA STBY1 BACKUPSET2013_02_12)
I have read that the locations need to be the same, however the instance names are different, and i thought i changed the pfile to accommodate that. My assumption is that i have made an error in the pfile. However i cannot see any issues there. Some things that i have changed in the pfile for standby:
Database: 11gEBS: 12.1.3O/S: Solaris Sparc 64 bits

Also, there is no SPFILE in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs for the TEST1 source instance. INITTEST1.ora file has the following entry:
Question: In the target instance to be cloned from RMAN backup fro source instance TEST1, on performing ' restore spfile from autobackup 'location';Will the spfile be restored in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs in the target instance TEST2?
I have taken full backup of database plus archivelog. Then copied them to new server..I want the complete procedure to restore the database on new location.
I need to take RMAN full backup by every Sunday night and Wednesday night . I have the netbackup script which will take the backup to media.
Question is:1. We have 15 - backup scripts for 15 DB in that server , so if i configure crontab for backup do i need to give all 15 scripts one by one or (*) will work . ie) 00 20 * * 3,7 /app/oracle/rman/scripts/hot_db_<sid>.sh
instead of this if i give : 00 20 * * 3,7 /app/oracle/rman/scripts/hot_db_*.sh then it will works fine or not ? 2.
Already my backup will create .output file in the same location , do i need to give output file location in crontab using ( > ) ? 3.
Is the above crontab timing is correct ? (3,7) for Wednesday and Sunday 8pm? so Sunday is 0(zero) or 7 ?
i have one database name tom on my one pc its name is rose1 now i have to place this my tom database to on my another pc its name is rose2. i do not want to use rman.
How can i place this tom database from rose1 pc to rose2 pc and my this tom database is in archive mode and my this tom database is in rose1 pc and my rose1 os is windows xp 32bit and i want to transfer this database to on my rose2 pc and the os of rose2 pc is windows 7 64 bit.
I am trying to backup my entire database's files :
[oracle@testing-oracle-1 ~]$ rman target / Recovery Manager: Release 11.2.0.1.0 - Production on Mon Jun 24 16:09:54 2013 Copyright (c) 1982, 2009, Oracle and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved. connected to target database: ORCL (DBID=1341263457) RMAN> list backup;
using target database control file instead of recovery catalog specification does not match any backup in the repository
RMAN> CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON; new RMAN configuration parameters: CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON; new RMAN configuration parameters are successfully stored RMAN> CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO '/u01/app/oracle/backupsets/control_files/cf_%F.BCKP';2>
[code]....
I see that a backup set was created to "/u01/app/oracle/flash_recovery_area/ORCL/backupset/2013_06_24/" , in spite of my specification.
So I asked RMAN to list all the backups I have:
RMAN> list backup;
List of Backup Sets =================== BS Key Size Device Type Elapsed Time Completion Time ------- ---------- ----------- ------------ --------------- 1 41.14M DISK 00:00:00 24-JUN-13 BP Key: 1 Status: AVAILABLE Compressed: NO Tag: TAG20130624T161025 Piece Name: /u01/app/oracle/backupsets/818957425_1_%r.BCKP
[code]....
Here I see that 4 backup sets have been created.The backup sets 1 & 3 containing the archived redo logs (818957425_1_%r.BCKP and 818957451_3_%r.BCKP) are placed as I wanted in /u01/app/oracle/backupsets/ dir.
The file containing the Control File and Spfile (cf_c-1341263457-20130624-00.BCKP) is placed as I wanted in /u01/app/oracle/backupsets/control_files/ dir.However, The backup set file containing the data files(o1_mf_nnnd0_TAG20130624T161026_8wjkb2tg_.bkp) is placed under the directory /u01/app/oracle/flash_recovery_area/ORCL/backupset/2013_06_24/ ,and I don't understand why.
When I backup my database without the archived redo logs - it is saved correctly:
RMAN> RMAN> delete backup; using channel ORA_DISK_1 List of Backup Pieces BP Key BS Key Pc# Cp# Status Device Type Piece Name
[code]....
1. Why aren't my data files backed up to the location I specified when I backup using PLUS ARCHIVELOG syntax?
2. Why are my redo logs saved to two different backup sets and not just one?
3. Is there a way to combine backup of all files (data files, control file, spfile, redo logs & arch redo's) in one backup set, one file?
I have 2 seperate rman backup one backup is of only datafile ,spfile and controlfile which i am able to restore and recover without any problem say bkp1 taken at 10 am
other set of backup is of only archive log files of same day but later time than datafile backup say bkp2 taken at 8pm...if i restore and recover bkp1 and try to restore bkp2 it gives error datafile exist (possibly due to fact both backup have control file)
if i just restore bkp1 and try to restore bkp2 so that i can do one recover at time it gives error datafile permission issue (possibly due to fact both backup have control file)
I want to restore database upto 8pm time how can i use both bkp1 and bkp2 to do it(restore datafiles and apply all archive logs on it)
