I need to truncate a database, though before doing that, want an export of one the tables. This will be re-imported once the truncate is complete.
What is the correct export syntax for Oracle 8? And possibly the import?
I am using expdp command to export the table by specifying Query parameter. But i am unable to export the table based on the condition.

I am trying to import on table which i have the export dump file which i take using expdp previously when i load that table on the same host
by using below command:
expdp scott/tiger@db10g tables=EMP,DEPT directory=TEST_DIR dumpfile=EMP_DEPT.dmp logfile=expdpEMP_DEPT.log
after that i zip that dump and move it to external usb and now i need that table i copy that table and unzip that that dump

But the query of import is still runing even not showing any amount of rows to be imported.
i already make the tablespace in which the table was previosuly before dropping but when i check the sapce of tablespace that is also not consuming one error i got preiviously while performing this task is:

excel sheet is not CSV file, so SQL Loader is not using

I am trying to migrate a table to a new table that has the field sequence changed and also has a new field added. My main question is if it is possible to have datapump add values to the new field in the target table.For example:
-original table has fields a, b, d, c
-new table has fields b, c, d, a, e
I want to load the new table and also include adding values for field e. In this case, field e is a year field, so it should be loaded with '2012'..Does datapump have the ability to do this? Is reorganizing the fields going to cause me any problems? We are on oracle version 11.2.0.3

I had just successfully finished a full importing from Oracle 9i DB to Oracle 11gR2 DB. My export was a full db export.
Prior to this importing, my 11g was a newly created DB with the default SYS, System etc.. schema. Their passwords is different from those in 9i.
However, i realised that after importing... their passwords in 11g was replaced by those passwords in 9i, including SYS and SYSTEM user...
I have new machine with oracle 11g and i have exported dump from oracle 10g . Now i need to import that dump on oracle 11g.

this code is correct he expot not only the data but also the creation of the table ....for exemple i do export and everything is good until now and i find the .dmp in the folder backup .. but when i deleted all data from my app and try to import this .dmp iit show me error it tell me thet the table phone is already created...just export the data of phone not the creation of table and data ???? or how can i import just the data from this .dmp ??

Lets say, I've index on salary column, and I'm using "select * from employees;"
Harms:
A) It takes more cpu resource to compress the bitmap format for the index value (incase of insertion).
B) Hope there is no extra effort need for update the value of indexed column's value.
2) Eventhough if I'm not using the index, the above restriction will applicable for the index column normally (?) Then how we can say unused index column is causing the performance issue.
3) if you say index has positives and negatives, then playing with the index (adding and removing as frequent as we need) is also not a solution. Am I right.So in overall we have to accept the negatives of the index.

I have 1 month table that contains 30 partitions single partition for a single day on one machine say machine A. on another machine say machine B i create the same table with the same script which is on machine A for the same table. i loaded data till 1-15th of a month in Machine A table and rest of 15 -30 Days data into table on machine B at the end i want to import the data on partitioned table on machine B that is from 15th -30th to machine A table. I take export partition wise (15 -30th) 15 partitions dumps and imported into Machine A table. Is it possible that i can import day wise partition from 15th to 30th into a partitioned table which already contains data from 1st -15th partition.

One of our client is using Oracle DB 10.2 with customize applications. They have 5 schemas (one for each module). In their Head Office they are utilizing 4 schemas and remaining one is being utilized on company site based in another city. Due to internet connectivity issue they don't have VPN available so they export schema dump file (imp/exp) on daily basis from that server, transfer it using FTP then import it on Production Server (in Head Office) on daily basis.
Now they are looking for an alternate because the schema size is getting larger day by day and due to internet connectivity issue they face lots of problems while transferring the file.
I would like to run a daily job that will export the table data from SQL server table and Import back into Oracle table. I might need to run the query to update the flag back into sql server table once job is done. How can i do this using either sql server or oracle?
We have oracle 9.2 and sql server 2005.
Normally i do from flat file or csv file which is generated by developer or user from source destination (not me) and i dump into oracle using sql*loader but this time I have to directly extract/export the data from MS Sql server and load into Oracle table, mostly it will reload so i might doing any massaging data during the load.
Is it sql sql*loader has any function that i can use the datasource to connect the MS Sql server and fetch the data and insert back data into oracle? I have access to Sql server but i don't how to use sql server to do this or using oracle as a daily job even because have to schedule the job for this as it will be a daily job.
