ORA-03135 Connection Lost Contact Errors

Aug 15, 2013

Since our upgrade from 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.3, we are experiencing occaisional overnight job failures throwing the ORA-03135 Connection lost contact errors. It doesn't happen often, but every once in a while. Even so, it is bugging me because I can't find anything wrong!

We have a dual server setup, with one IA64 HPUX 11.31 server hosting the database, and a second IA64 HP-UX 11.31 running all of the application code. I'm seeing errors in the Alert log that is pointing me to a specific cjq0 trace file, and the contents of that trace file are pretty much as follows:

*** 2013-08-15 02:05:45.541
Waited for process J001 to initialize for 107 seconds
*** 2013-08-15 02:05:45.544

loadavg : 0.31 0.17 0.09
[code]....

There were jobs that completed successfully just prior to this failure, and subsequent jobs ran successfully as well. I'm stumped - not sure what's going on here. I have reviewed a lot of posts relative to the ORA-03135, and followed as many of the recommendations as I can, but I'm still seeing this errors periodically. Their frequency has not changed since I started applying these changes, so I know I haven't stumbled on the cause as yet.

My application is using "Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production" and Oracle 11g client v11.1.0.6.0.My application server runs continuously and checks for new requests. But problem occurs when I do not send any request to my server for 40-45 minutes i.e. server is idle or doing nothing except checking new incoming requests for those 40-45 minutes. After that if I try to connect my server by sending some request, it shows following error message and my server crashes:

ORA-12547 / TNS / Lost Contact / Access Oracle Database 11.2.0.3

Dec 7, 2012

I installed a server on a Linux server Oracle11.2.0.3 5.8 from 64 bits.The user who installed the Oracle software is "oracle" and belongs to oinstall and dba groups.

ID ORACLE
uid=503(oracle) gid=504(oinstall) groups=504(oinstall),505(dba),506(cvargas) context=user_u:system_r:unconfined_t

The software has been installed correctly and have been able to create two databases. As a requirement of the application, you must create an operating system user that launches processes.This user belongs to dba.But when trying to access Oracle via sqlplus gives this error:

-bash-3.2$ sqlplus davinci/xxxxxxx

ERROR:

Enter user-name:

However, if you connect using a network descriptor works correctly.

SQLPLUS DAVINCI/xxxx@tns_alias

So there must be a problem with access to local resources.This user has the same profile file variable (. Bash_profile)

How To Check Whether Connection Is Lost In Middle Of Batch Process

Jul 6, 2012

I am using Oracle 11g database. The situation is I need to run a batch process a fixed intervals and copy data into my table from a remote database using a DB Link. I have 3 tables,1. Original data Table, 2. Exported data Table, 3. Status table. All the data from the remote database will be loaded into the exported data table. As and when each copying is finished the status table will be updated with 'Y' if export is success and with 'N' if export is unsuccessful. When the exporting is over, then status table is checked, if all the status' is Y then the data from Exported data table will be copied into the Original data table after truncating all the rows of Original data table. If the status is N then the Original data table will be intact.

How to check whether the exporting was success for all the exported data ? what to do if the connection through the DB Link was lost during the exporting?

Recreate Parameter File When Lost Or Corrupted?

recreate paramater file if you lost init.ora or spfile.ora

STEPS

SQL> startup
ORA-01078: failure in processing system parameters
LRM-00109: could not open parameter file 'D:ORACLEORA92DATABASEINITGPT2.ORA'
How to resolve ORA-01078 with LRM-00109 error?

For resolving these error, you should need to replace init.ora or spfile if you have backup of same files. If you don't have backup then go to alert.log and copy all parameters in one file and save as "init.ora". Modify same init.ora with some parameters which need single quotation mark " ' " like background_dump_dest,controlfiles,db_name and "dispatchers ......)". Connect as sysdba in SQL*Plus and execute command "create spfile from pfile=" or startup pfile or startup.

Security :: Enhance Security Of Windows And Recover Lost / Forgotten Password?

Nov 16, 2010

Lost Windows password? Forgot Windows password? Your PC was hacked? Therefore, it is a basic step for every Windows users to enhance the security of Windows password. In the networks, it is found that a number of user's passwords are easy to guess. Only the smallest groups are the most security conscious and select passwords that are mixed lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers and punctuation to create cryptic passwords. Adopting strong password is one of the most effective ways to ensure system security. Here are several methods for you to enhance the security of your passwords in Windows 7/2000/XP/Vista and so on. You'd better remember the methods below unless you want to reset Windows password from time to time.

1. Is random password a great password?

A common myth is that totally random passwords like Ht3&e#L%5d@$B are the best passwords. This is not true. While they may be strong passwords, they are usually difficult to remember, slow to type, and sometimes vulnerable to attacks against the password generating algorithm. It is easy to create passwords that are strong but much easier to remember by using a few simple techniques. For example, consider the password "Luck-73@Better?". This password utilizes uppercase and lowercase letters, two numbers, and three symbols. The password is 15 characters long and can be memorized with very little effort. Moreover, this password can be typed very fast. The portion"Luck" and "Better" alternate between left and right-handed keys on the keyboard, improving speed, decreasing typos, and decreasing the chances of someone being able to discover your password by watching you.

2. Create the long Windows password

Although a password may eventually be discovered through some means, it is possible to create a password that cannot be cracked in any reasonable time. If a password is long enough, it will take so long or require so much processing power to crack it. That is essentially the same as being unbreakable (at least for most hackers).

3. Create the Windows password constantly?

This may be good advice for some high-risk passwords, but it is not the best policy for every user. It is frustrating for a user to have to constantly think of and remember new passwords every 30 days. It may be better to focus on stronger passwords and better user awareness rather than limiting password age. A more realistic time for the common user may be 90-120 days.

4. Write down Windows password in a proper place

Sometimes it is necessary for some users losing and forgetting complex passwords easily to write down them somewhere proper. However, it is important to educate users on how to write down passwords properly. Obviously, a sticky note on the monitor is not a good idea, but storing passwords in a safe or even a locked cabinet may be sufficient.

5. 14 characters is the optimal password length

Each character that you add to your password increases the protection. Your passwords should be 8 or more characters in length; 14 characters or longer is the Optimal Password Length. Many systems also support use of the space bar in passwords, so you can create a phrase made of many words. It is not easier to forget and lose, as well as longer than a simple password, and harder to guess.

6. Try not to use the same Windows password for all accounts

Some users always make the same passwords for every account to make it easy to remember. In that case, when any one of them lost, your other information protected by that password will be in danger as well. It is serious to use different passwords for different systems and accounts.

7. Do not use some common words that other users maybe guess

Most of users prefer to use some common words to remember easily, for example, login name, birth date, driver's license, passport number, pets' name and other words contained their personal information someone knows. In that case, your Windows system will not be safe anymore. Moreover, do remember not to use some words spelled backwards, abbreviations, sequences or repeated characters and adjacent letters, such as, asdfgh, 123456, 888888, abcdef and so on.

You can smoothly use your Windows now because the strong and powerful Windows password is created successfully, Certainly, I believe that many users lost Windows password and forgot Windows password, then you need have to reset Windows password or recover Windows password. It is a big problem for plenty of Windows users that how to reset Windows password. how to recover Windows password and they are puzzled by resetting windows password, for instance, reset Windows 7 password, recover password Windows XP, remove Windows Vista password and other operating systems after they create the password with complex letters, numbers and symbols. However, it is unnecessary to worry and it is said that things will eventually sort themselves out. There are many ways to reset forgotten Windows password, including use windows password reset disk and windows password reset software, like Super Windows Password Reset, a professional windows password reset software which could enable you to logon to Windows smoothly without reinstalling system.

Precompilers, OCI & OCCI :: Data Lost After Adding Null Terminator For VARCHAR Data Received From Database

Dec 13, 2010

We are migrating a proc application as described below.

Old Env: UNIX
Old DB: Oracle 8i

New Env: Linux
New DB: Oracle 11g

New modules are successfully compiled in Linux environment. But we are facing issues in writing the output of VARCHAR datatype to a file.

find below the extract of code.
EXEC SQL BEGIN DECLARE SECTION;
varchar mcolmnvarchar[4];
EXEC SQL END DECLARE SECTION;

EXEC SQL DECLARE crs CURSOR FOR
SELECT NVL(colmn,' ') FROM table1

memset(mcolmnvarchar.arr,'',4); //Was added for only Linux migration. Not present in unix env.

EXEC SQL FETCH c1 INTO :mcolmnvarchar;

cout << "Data at Stage one"<< mcolmnvarchar << endl;
mcolmnvarchar.arr[mcolmnvarchar.len]='';
cout << "Data at Stage two"<< mcolmnvarchar << endl;
fprintf(fptr,"%-4s",mcolmnvarchar.arr);

Above code works absolutely fine in Unix env with Oracle 8i. But with Linux env & Oracle 11g it is not working. No compilation or run time errors. Data at Stage one prints the output of database properly. But after null terminator code, Data at Stage two statement prints without any value. Value is lost after null terminator code.

Intermittent ORA-01017 Errors

Nov 15, 2011

I am trying to track down the cause of some ORA-101017 errors that are occurring intermittently. We are running PeopleSoft and every so often (couple days) we see a burst of these errors in one of our application server log files. They are not specific to a particular server and only last about 5 minutes.

There do not appear to be any messages in any of the Oracle logs and the database is not recording any failed log in attempts. No passwords are being changed and/or account changes are being made.

I can think of is that there is some sort of connection limitation to the database which causes these errors to spawn when the maximum number of connections is reached.

My question is whether or not the ORA-01017 error could be inticatve of this type of problem and/or what might be going on.
