ODP.NET :: Using Tabledirect To Call A VIEW In Oracle
Jun 4, 2013
Can one use the CommandType.TableDirect to access a VIEW in oracle?
I have a view that I want to access and rather than call a Stored Procedure that in turn accesses the view, can I do this directly from with .NET?
I am using VS2012, and I am using Oracle 11.2g.

I have to optimize the queries for user online panel. We have already created 2 materialized views:
mv_channel, mv_area
mv_channel (article_id, area, aweg_txt3, sum(value), sum(units))
mv_area (article_id, area, sum(value), sum(units))
For this query:
SELECT /*+ REWRITE*/
sum(value) as value,
sum(units) as unit,
article_id
from
...
where
...
and area in ('RB','RR','RS')
and aweg_txt3 n ('SB')
...
is the matview mv_channel very useful. The execution time was just 8s-13s instead fo 190s. But if the user also asks for this query but without AWEG_TXT3 in the where-clause, then it lasted 1:25min (longer than if the matview mv_area will be used).
The problem is that, the matview mv_area cannot be used in the case, in which the AWEG_TXT3 is in where clause (because it doesn't have aweg_txt3).
How can i do, so that :
- in case of AWEG_TXT3 in where-clause the matview mv_channel will be used and
- in another one (without AWEG_TXT3 in where-clause) the matview mv_area will be called automatically from the query

I need to fire the KEY-DUPREC trigger as I click on the key combination Shift+P therefore; I added the following line of code in the frmweb.res file.
80 : 1 : "Shift+P" : 64 : "Duplicate Record"
It worked iff no error was raised. So, if I have a raise form trigger failure in the KEY-DUPREC trigger, a capital P will appear in the text field that called the trigger.

I am using OCI and instant_client (11.2.0.3.0) in my C++ program (on Windows 7) to connect remotely to 11G database. While doing a connection using server name as well as servername:port/service_name as connection strings, I am getting error of ORA-12504 TNS:listener was not given the SERVICE_NAME in CONNECT_DATA. According to instant client FAQ & white paper at [URL]..., no tnsnames.ora is required for instant client. Then why could I be getting this error? I ensured that only the instant client directory is in Path environment variable. There was a ODBC driver installed on this same host.

On a Oracle 11g R2 I've a table function ( PIPELINED ) returning rows selected from a table. The first time the function is selected, in a session ( I've tried to disconnect and log in again ), it returns no rows.I've tried to log the call using DBMS_OUTPUT and from what I see the select on the table function returns no rows and no output is printed. So I presume Oracle is not calling the function.
The same function on a similar environment ( same db versions, patches and database structure ) works fine. The second environment is a production environment so it has more memory and some other settings enabled.

I had a query related to call_form function in forms 6i.How can I call a particular form via static ip(outside LAN),but the actual forms are stored in a server called "MAIN_SERVER" which resides in internal LAN domain. That is I have stored location of all my forms path(fmx)in my database table called "FORMS_LOCATION" in the MAIN_SERVER system under the directory "FORMS".From here only users can call all the forms by call_form function. To understand see the example below,
In the table FORMS_LOCATION,there is a column call "forms_path" which holds the value like,
//MAIN_SERVER/FORMS/EMPLOYEE.FMX;
(server_name,foldername,form_name)
In application the call_form just uses the column "forms_path" to call the form.like CALL_FORM("forms_path",no_hide) this statement will call the form from the main_server.
Here 1.MAIN_SERVER is the name of the server system where forms fmx is actually stored under the folder name "FORMS".When the users access the particular form the call_form function call the form from the MAIN_SERVER.Now there are no problem inside the LAN.Incase if I access the database and call the form outside LAN via internet through STATIC IP what happened was database was connected but call_form function failed and not calling the form because which does not know the MAIN_SERVER/FORMS/ path.
Because my user want to access the form outside lan via internet,so I tried replacing the above statement like //192.54.67.98/FORMS/EMPLOYEE.FMX' with static ip in the prefix instead of local server called MAIN_SERVER.But its not working again. How can I do this?.

The block size of my db(10gr2) is 8k, and the db is on the raw device file system on a aix machine.
OS block size is 512k.
How much block will be read from disk when a single oracle io call occurs? Which one is currect, 8K or 512K?
If the block size for a single io call depends on the os block size (512k), I think os block size need to be tuned for oracle block size (8k). If we use raw device file system, os level block size has no meaning?

There are only OCI headers in 9.2.0/rdbms/demo directory in our installation of Oracle 9.2:
9.2.0/rdbms/demo/ocixad.h
9.2.0/rdbms/demo/oci.h
9.2.0/rdbms/demo/oci1.h
...
In Oracle 10.2 installation there are OCI headers in rdbms/public directory:
10.2.0/rdbms/public/ocidem.h
10.2.0/rdbms/public/ocidfn.h
10.2.0/rdbms/public/ocikpr.h
10.2.0/rdbms/public/oci.h
10.2.0/rdbms/public/oci1.h

What should be installed additionally to have OCI headers in rdbms/public in Oracle 9.2.0?

I work with oracle 10g, on windows 7. sometime when i try to start my sqlplus in prompt command this message display.
C:UsersSony>sqlplus
SP2-1503: Unable to initialize Oracle call interface
SP2-0152: ORACLE may not be functioning properly
But the solution people have proposed into the forum are:
1 - check the environment variable Oracle_home and modify if it ending by ""
2 - or try tho run my promt command as Administrator.
I try the both, but only the second works. while now i don't understand why it works when i start the promt command as Administrator and why it no works when i don't run it like administrator. Another thing is i am the only user of my computer, i have only one session (administor session).

Currently some jobs created in WBT scripting need to converted into oracle, plsql. There is one job in WBT scripting, which will invoke the oracle reports inside and generate the PDF files in the destination path as follows:
a = runhide("c:Program FilesInternet Exploreriexplore.exe", "http://pscm9722:7778/reports/rwservlet?USERID=%LOGONINFO%+server=rep_pscm9722+destype=file+desname=D:ORACLE10G\%CCALLRptName%+desformat=PDF+PARAMFORM=no+report=PCCALL.RDF")
a = runhide("c:Program FilesInternet Exploreriexplore.exe", "http://pscm9722:7778/reports/rwservlet?

I have created a Materialized View (MV) and within the MV DDL have included a statement as per below. However, the MV does not seem to be refreshing on a daily basis. I can see the job in dba_jobs table. So the question, is there some system setting i need to execute or create in order for Oracle to know that it needs to run the Job defined in the dba_jobs table on a daily Basis?

I have big trouble with some Update query on Oracle 11G.I have a set of tables (5) of identical structures and a view that consists in an UNION ALL of the 5 tables.None of this table contains more than 20 000 rows.Let's call the view V_INTE_NE. Each of the basic table has a PRIMARY KEY defined on 3 NUMBERS(10,0) -> INTE_REF / NE_REF / INSTANCE.
Now, I get 6 rows in another table and I want to update my view from the data of this small table (let's call it SMALL). This table has the 3 columns INTE_REF / NE_REF / INSTANCE.
When I try to join the two tables :
SELECT * FROM T_INTE_NE T2
WHERE EXISTS ( SELECT 1 FROM SMALL T1 WHERE T2.INTE_REF = T1.INTEREF AND T2.NE_REF = T1.NEREF AND T2.INTE_INST = T1.INSTANCE )
I get the 6 lines in 0.037 seconds
When I try to update the view (I have an INSTEAD OF trigger that does nothing (just return for testing even without modifying anything), I execute the following query :
UPDATE T_INTE_NE T2
SET INTE_STATE = -11 WHERE
EXISTS ( SELECT 1 FROM SMALL T1 WHERE T2.INTE_REF = T1.INTEREF AND T2.NE_REF = T1.NEREF AND T2.INTE_INST = T1.INSTANCE )
The 6 rows are updated (at least TRIGGER is called) in 20 seconds.
However, in the execution plan, I can't see where Oracle takes time to achieve the query :
Plan hash value: 907176690
[code]....
Predicate Information (identified by operation id):
2 - access("T2"."INTE_REF"="T1"."INTEREF" AND "T2"."NE_REF"="T1"."NEREF" AND
"T2"."INTE_INST"="T1"."INSTANCE")
Note- dynamic sampling used for this statement (level=2)
Statistics
-----------------------------------------------------------
3 user calls
0 physical read total bytes
0 physical write total bytes
0 spare statistic 3
0 commit cleanout failures: cannot pin
[code]....
I get exactly the same execution plan (when autotrace is ON).Furthermore, if I try to do the same update on each of the basic tables, I get the rows updated instantaneously.

We are using Oracle 10g rel 2. The replication is setup on 1 server which is in City A, and the snapshot server is in City B.
City A .
Create materialized view log on table-a
with primary key
including new values.
City B database.
Create user test_rep identified by test
grant connect, resource, create any materialized view , table, view , procedure to test_rep.
Create materialized view city-A_db_MV
refresh fast
select * from cityA.Tablea@city-Adb
When i select from city-A_db_MV, it showed the complete table-A of city-A database.
Now if we make any changes to City-A table at the Master site, will it be propagated automatically to the MV site.
I guess we need to create jobs to push / or refresh fast .. isnt it. But exactly how to do it is a question.
Secondly if we make a replication group at Master site at city-A db, how do we refresh that Group and how to monitor whether it is refreshing on time or not? do we need to see the jobs every now and then.
but still a lot of questions unanswered, even though i had read the documents earlier.
1-The MView was created without identifying that after what interval it will be fast refreshed.
2- How to Manually refresh it. Does it support On Commit, I think it is not.
3- Where should be we make a group and then add the table to that group and refresh that group.
Should this group belongs to the Master Site or to MV site?
