Forms :: Detecting Item Field Change

I have a form that i need to be able to detect when a field is has been updated. I will then do the appropriate update to the table.
I can't use the standard oracle forms data block for handling updates because my data selection is controlled by me via the when-new-block-instance.
The problem is when i select a value from an LOV and place the new data in the field. I don't know how to detect if the field is updated or not. I am currently using a loop to cycle through all the records, I have an if/else in the key_commit trigger that basically determines if there is an update or insert to be done to the table. The problem is that it seems if i select a value for one record that record goes through the INSERT procedure, (which is correct), but all the other records(not touched/changed) are going through the UPDATE procedure.
Is there a way in forms to check the status of a field? I know of system.form_status but that does not work for me.

I have been asked to support an application which was developed in Forms 4.5. I have experience in Oracle database but I'm almost zero in any front end development.
As a first task I have been asked to remove a couple of field from one of the screen and then change the value of one of the field.

I created a table (software defect details) and an interactive report on it. Users can go to the details form where they can manage many information: STATUS is one of them and they can change it or not.
I would like to send an email when SUBMIT botton is pressed only if field STATUS has changed. How can I detect this? I mean, I wrote a procedure in order to send an email and it works, but it runs always: I cannot set it running only when the content of STATUS_ID has changed.
how to understand if a field value has changed and, if possible what the old values was? I know how to do that by using a trigger (:old.status, :new.status) but I don't when using an APEX procedure.

I have a need to change the LOV of a page item's select list based on the selection in another page item's select list. So in other words, for a page item that is a select list, I need to use one LOV normally, and a different LOV if the value of a different page item is set to X.
A dynamic action would be useful here (on change where Select List 1 = x), but I don't know how to take the action of changing LOVsfor Select List 2 based on that action.

We are using APEX 4.2, 10GR2, RedHat5.
I have a report that comes from SQL Query (updateable report). I'm using the apex_item.text and apex_item.hidden on fields. I'm using a button to submit and after submit process to add some logic that I need.
There could be 1 - 10 records in the report. There is only 1 field that is needed to enter a value, but the value of this field determines the value of another field. I think that I can do this with a submit button and an after submit process where I loop through all the records. I think I have this handled.
This is the question
When the value of that field is changed then the value of another field in the same row changes immediately. All the examples I've seen so far are for a single record and that doesn't work for us.
I guess this is a MRU process but I haven't seen an example where a dynamic action is possible on a Multi Row Update.

I'm trying to update a number field on an apex page by summing up the values of multiple page items. I've tried to follow this tutorial

especially the "Create a Set Value Dynamic Action Using PL/SQL" part.
In the tutorial example they return an page item value P3_SAL multiplied by a multiplier they've determined by another page item's case. What I want to do is much simpler in that I just want to add up multiple page item values and then display them in a number field at the bottom of the page.
so the code I tried to use based on the tutorial is in the tab: Home >Application Builder>Application 103>Page 3>Edit Dynamic Action>Create / Edit Action
Set Type: PL/SQL Function Body

But it gives me an error that I need to declare the identifiers, yet it works if I only use one item and I can perform any arithmetic.

I am not sure if the problem is related to hidden characters but its my best guess so far. I am trying to enhance a part of the ERD by creating a lookup for a column one of the table that uses text (finite set of values).

I have a table where i need to update one field values based on another field of the same table , simply as it is.I have done this using one select all check box , on clicking that all check boxes of item_trans table will get selected , then i will un select some of check box and then using one button, i will update the value of the fields which are checked only.
I have put the sample code but when i am updating its taking long time and hanging.I am also attaching the form based on the test case provided.

I have a two node rac DB (prim and stdby) with two threads. I am trying to put together a script that will detect any gaps in the log files.
I know that MRPO only runs on one node. When I run the following query (see below) I can only see the sequence# for one of the threads.
select thread#, sequence#, process from gv$managed_standby;
THREAD# SEQUENCE# PROCESS
---------- ---------- ---------
1 119739 MRP0
...
...
I than query my PRIM DB and subract the value from my STBY DB to see the difference (gap)
select (sequence# - &scn) from v$log where thread# = &thrd and status ='CURRENT'
Can there be gaps in more than one thread? If so, how can I see the diffences?

If I'm looking on v$session - values in osuser column for some machines displayed with DOMAINNAME, and for other - without. Even same user (MYDOMAIN\ADMINISTRATOR) from 2 different machines displayed in 2 different ways on the same db:
MYDOMAIN\Administrator from machine A, and administrator from machine B.
Both machines are belongs to same windows domain. DB (oracle 10g) have no "DOMAIN" defined.
What make the difference? And can I somehow to affect this behaviour? I mean, can I define that all users will be displayed as DOMAINNAME\USERNAME or MACHINENAME\USERNAME(in case of no domain exists)?

which of the following views on the physical standby will us correct information on synchronization with Primary database?
For example, when I checked v$archived_gap it did not return any rows but the max(applied_seq#) on v$archive_dest_status was lagging far behind from the max(sequence#) on Primary database

I am having trouble changing a non-displayed field when a displayed field is changed.
When a user wants to un-assign a territory they want to just null the ID field (non-database item). I then need to null the PIDM field(not visible, database item) for that one record.
I tried this, but I end up putting null on all the records instead of just the one record, which ends up un-assigning all the territories not just the one.
Is there a way to assign the null to the PIDM field associated to the ID field of that particular record.

i have a table called equipment containing engine_type_id.in the equipment form that is based on the equipment table, i added a non database item called engine_type.
i added an LOV for the engine type field, so that the user can choose the engine type from the the egine types table. i made the engine type id hidden. and set the validate item from LOV to yes.on post query trigger, i selected the engine type into the nondatabase field.
the form is working properly.
when i push CTRL F11 (query) and scroll, even if i didnt change anything the form builder asks me , do u want to save changes.
