Client Tools :: Date Format And Calendar Type Are Not Changing In Oracle Form?

i have changed date's format and the calendar type in sqlplus through the following command so the date's format and the calender type both changed successfully and work, but in oracle form the they haven't changed.

alter session set nls_calendar='persian';

ALTER SESSION SET NLS_DATE_FORMAT='YYYY/MM/DD';

ALTER SYSTEM SET NLS_DATE_FORMAT='YYYY/MM/DD' SCOPE=SPFILE;

Export/Import/SQL Loader :: Converting Date Format Using RTRIM

Apr 22, 2013

I need loading date formats using sqlldr. I am trying to load some data from another source into our Oracle database, however, the "date" field includes extra characters that i'm trying to deal with. For reference, I'm running Oracle 11.2 on Linux 5.7.

First, the actual date input is:

April 18, 2013 8:50:44 AM EDTI tried to input it a few ways but was unable to load it until I physically removed the "AM EDT" from the input string.

My first question is if there is a way to RTRIM and get rid of those extra characters. Either that, or I need a way to convert the "AM EDT" into our standard date format.

My control file has the following:

LASTCHANGEDAT date "Month dd, YYYY HH MI SS",This will load the data, but only if I strip out the "AM EDT" from the actual data input which is not feasible.

Also, how would I handle date that comes in as: April 18, 2013 3:50:44 PM EDT

Also, I tried the following, but it gives me a different error:

LASTCHANGEDAT "to_date(:LASTCHANGEDAT,'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS')",

gives me error:

Record 1: Rejected - Error on table NTWKREP.INTERFACE, column LASTCHANGEDAT.
ORA-01858: a non-numeric character was found where a numeric was expected

Client Tools :: Convert Incorrectly Imported Data Into Proper Unicode Format?

Mar 26, 2012

how can I convert incorrectly imported data into it's proper unicode format.

example:

FULL_NAME
GöRAN JOHANSSON
GÖRAN JOHANSSON

The first record is incorrectly imported and the second is how it should be looking like, if it has been properly imported.

NLS parameters are:

NLS_CHARACTERSET: WE8MSWIN1252
NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET: AL16UTF16

In the example above, full_name is of a NVARCHAR2(100) type but the same problem applies to columns with VARCHAR2 type.

Is there a function or a peace of code I could use to convert value of the first record to be look alike of the second record?

Below is the query

09-MAY-5249 9

In Toad

SELECT start_date, length(start_date) from my_table where p_id = 1;

blank 9

Did some queries below for research.

SELECT start_date, DUMP(start_date, 1016)
from my_table
where p_id = 1;
09-MAY-5249Typ=12 Len=7: 30,37,d5,a,0,a2,d5

from my_table
where p_id = 2;
01-JAN-2013Typ=12 Len=7: 78,71,1,1,1,1,1

Why is same query returning two different results in two tools.

1) I want to pass date in '12 Dec 2012'(CHARECTER) while calling SP and in side SP i have declared parameter as DATE so I think it should not create any problem in any condition whether it is passed from oracle client or any other front end?

2) I have date in (date type variable) , how to convert it into char but it should be in iso format (i want iso format , so that it should not create any problem in any condition).

3) How to convert (date in char- in iso or any good format) into (date type variable) (so that it should not create problem and this is why i wanted char date in iso format).

4) If there is any good format and function to convert (date to char) and (char to date)?

SQL & PL/SQL :: Multipurpose Varchar2 Column Error When Converting To Date

Aug 16, 2011

i have a varchar2 column containing string values that can be converted to date i.e. ('31-JUL-11') and that column also contains text strings in it. i.e. ('Some string data...')

records whose column value can be converted to date are extractable via where clause (i.e. those rows are associated with some fix number / flag)

now when i try to use to_date function i get the error that

" ORA-01858 a non-numeric character was found where a numeric was expected "

in sql i have added a where clause to only pick rows with flag, but even then it gives the error.

using a subquery in the from clause eliminates the error, but when i create it in a view it again gives the same error.

Client Tools :: Basic Tools For Oracle Version Control

Aug 26, 2011

I'm looking for 3 simple things.

1) A reverse engineering tool that I can point to an Oracle schema and get a "baseline" script to re-create that schema from scratch, with decently formatted DDL files (1 per object) neatly organized in a directory tree (by object type) and called in the correct order. Icing on the cake would be an option to pass the tool a list of tables containing static data and get DMLs to populate (insert) those tables as part of the script.

2) a diff tool that I can point to a pair of Oracle instances (source and target) containing a given schema and get a "delta" script to alter the target schema so that it becomes identical to the source schema. If data loss occurs on the target instance (i.e. drop a column) I would like to find a warning comment inserted in the script (e.g. "-- Attention: data migration DML needed here?"). Icing on the cake would be an option to pass the tool a list of tables containing static data and get DMLs to update (delete, update and insert) the data in the target tables to become identical to the contents in the source tables *without* deleting and re-inserting all rows (or dropping, recreating and repopulating the table).

3) I would like the above two tools (that, as you will have recognized, are basic to putting your database design under version control) to be open-source, with a command-line interface and a vibrant community backing them.
