Backup & Recovery :: User Name To Connect For Archivelog After Migration

I have migrated my database to oracle and while migration i have followed all instructions and migrated to oracle.the connection and user having my tables and all object is
con name: orcltestcon user: orcltestuser and password: orcltestuser.
I want to turn on ARCHIVELOG Mode ON.
1) Is it good practice to turn on archivelog. also tel me cases where it is good.
2) to turn on ARCHIVELOG , with which command i should connect.
1) CONNECT SYS/<password> AS SYSDBA;
or
2) CONNECT orcltestuser/orcletestuser AS SYSDBA.

Just now my database is hang due to the archivelog full. I try to use RMAN to delete the expired one and free space but encounter the error:
RMAN>crosscheck archivelog all;
archive log filename=/geodata/oraclelog/archive_log/ORAGF45/archivelog/2013_06_04/o1_mf_1_1444_8tsxvwc2_.arc recid=1350 stamp=817182450

So I try to back it up first by using the below command:
RMAN> backup archivelog all;

channel ORA_DISK_1: specifying archive log(s) in backup set

I know that I have to extend the db_recovery_file_dest directory for "limit exceed" error but how can I safely delete the archivelog in order to bring up the database?

I'm on a Windows server 2003 R2 64 bit, database is 11.1.0.7. From RMAN connected to the target and the catalog, this is a show all;

I'm running incremental backups, a level 0 on sunday and a level 1 the other days of the week, this is the ctl file:
LEVEL 0:
connect target /@ORCL
connect catalog rman/rmanpw@rmancat
RUN

The level 0 does delete the archive logs (because of the delete input). Each backupset has two copies of the archive logs (which is what I want), and I expected the logs to be deleted after being backed up 2 days (each day is twice, 2 days = 4 times). But it's not deleting the logs, even after 6 runs.

i am working on stand-alone standar P6 not oracle version while moving my DB into my laptop , the backup and restore have been done successfully using SQL server 2005 while logging into the primavera , it gives me message ( unable to connect to database )
when i try to configure the database >> i have tried the Pubuser & privuser & SA . but still useless and it give me error:((Bad public user name or password. Database Server Error: Login failed for user 'pubuser'.; ))getting into my database and connect to the server ??

I installed 11g on linux rhel 5.2 by manually. now databse is ok . But some Schema HR , Scott , Oe are not come. but database fully work. ok.
Now i am trying to connect Rman.
export ORACLE_SID=ORCL
rman target /
then I have a error that SYS.DBMS_BACKUP_RESTORE is not found.
but sql> desc sys.dbms_backup_restore package is available.
which script are run to solve it , because only catalog.sql and cataproc.sql script are run in installing of oracle 11g manually instalation.

We have two databases dev and prod in one server. I would like to connect to target database prod without a recovery catalog. Issued the below command and getting the following error message.
rman target sys/sys_password nocatalog.

we have a cluster of two nodes having oracle 11G R2 and another single instance server where RMAN is configured and this is backup server.i have created the service between the the target database and backup server and they are working fine i.e tnsping work fine at both sites.Now i have physical backup scripts written at one of cluster node and scripts run at crontab. The backup include full_backup , archive backup etc.
Now all physical backups work fine that is connecting RMAN and then catalog and then complete the backup but the full_backup do not connect catalog and throw this error that it do not know the SID in the connect descriptor. the tnsping output (from target ) is as followed fedb112 # tnsping bkp

On production server i have the production database and i have another instance for recovery catalog database.and on DR server i have only one instance for production database .In the scenario of recovery,
- i did export for recovery catalog user
- i have latest rman backup for production database
On the DR server as i mention up , i have only on instance , my question is , i need to create another instance for recovery catalog user to import it ? or on the same target database on DR i can import the recovery catalog ?

Oracle 10gR2 on 64-bit RHEL.Backup Strategy:There will be a level-0 backup of the database every Sunday and level-1 every weekday.Archivelogs will be backed up up every 30 minutes.
Q: How can I delete ALL the archivelog backups that were taken that day (every 30 minutes) right after successful completion of level-0 or level-1 backup?
I want to delete them because they may not be of any use after the level-0 or level-1 backup (am I right)?

We moved SOME of the archivelog file manually using operating system command mv to another location so that our application can run first.When the engineers restarted the rman to backup, we receive the above error.

We are trying to restore a database on the different server using RAM incremental level 0 and 1 backups. We have weekly Incremental level 0 backups along with incremental backups on daily basis. During recovery of Incremental level 0 backup, RMAN is expecting/looking for Incremental Level 0 backup of prior week as well. Is this the usual process for RMAN to look for prior level 0 backup though we need to restore from the current level 0 backup and roll forward by a week with subsequent Level 1 backup.?
We intend to restore from the Level 0 of 1/16 and roll forward with daily incrementals till 1/22. RMAN is expecting level 0 backupsets from 1/9 backup as well and keep failing since those backups are not available. quick inputs since we are in middle of recovery and trying to resolve if this is even doable.

I have problem on using "delete obsolete" in RMAN.
First, let describe my backup configuration.
1. Full backup every Monday (17-Oct, 10-Oct, 3-Oct, 26-Sep)
2. Incremental backup for other days
3. Enable autobackup of control file
4. Backup archive log every day
5. RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 30 DAYS
6. Execute "Delete obsolete" every day
7. control file is used instead of catalog
The results observed:
1. Backup of control files older than 30 days will be deleted
2. Backup of archive log files older than 30 days will be deleted.
3. Backup of datafiles older than ~14 days but before 30 days are also DELETED.
In my example, the backup of datafiles created at 26-Sep is deleted at 16-Oct.
I tried "restore database validate until time "sysdate-22"" at 17-Oct. And RMAN reported "datafile xx will be created automatically during restore operation". It seems that RMAN failed to do restoration up to 22 days ago. The retention policy I set seems not effective on datafile backups.
I checked view v$backup_set and the "Keep" is "No" and "Keep until" is empty.
The only thing I can think of, is the settings of "CONTROL_FILE_RECORD_KEEP_TIME". It is marked "7" in the Oracle, which is less than the retention. But I suppose this only causes the backup not deleted, but NOT be deleted earlier.

I have 2 seperate rman backup one backup is of only datafile ,spfile and controlfile which i am able to restore and recover without any problem say bkp1 taken at 10 am
other set of backup is of only archive log files of same day but later time than datafile backup say bkp2 taken at 8pm...if i restore and recover bkp1 and try to restore bkp2 it gives error datafile exist (possibly due to fact both backup have control file)
if i just restore bkp1 and try to restore bkp2 so that i can do one recover at time
it gives error datafile permission issue (possibly due to fact both backup have control file)
I want to restore database upto 8pm time how can i use both bkp1 and bkp2 to do it(restore datafiles and apply all archive logs on it)

My scenario is: database is in archivelog mode.
I run DLY cold backups including controlfile & archivelogs and keep 3 gens of backups and archivelogs to 3 days also. What is the correct procedure to restore back to an old cold backup. Database is backed up Mon,Tue,Wed on Thur we require to bring database back to Tuesday DLY security.
I have tried:
startup mount
restore database from tag 'DLYTUE'
recover database
( this just rolls forward on all archive logs once it restores datafiles, not getting to point to alter database open resetlogs.)
Next tried to :
recover database archivelog tag 'DLYTUE'
( same outcome )
What is the correct rman procedure including should I remove old archive logs from working OS directory ? Also need to know once I restore back and open database to TUE security how do you tidy up the archive logs and dumps which are no longer require i.e. : weds..
I have read about using the set until time option but how to I get absolute time from when cold backup completed if this is the correct procedure.
