Application Express :: Database Link Slows Down The Response Time
Jul 11, 2013I have a question regarding db link. I have a query that uses a database link, i speed it up by adding the DRIVING_SITE hint and it worked when executed from
sql*plus or pl/sql developer.
It returns results in 3 seconds or even less. However, when i put this query back into the APEX application, specifically into an interactive report page -- it runs for 3 mins!

Nov 5, 2013I have a requirement where users will select an instance (db link) from an apex LOV and the data in an interactive report will query based on the db link selected. I can use a db link in an interactive report query but only if I provide the exact name of the link. If I do something link select * from foo@:P12_ DBLINK it doesn't work. It seems my only option is to use something like apex_collection.create_collection_from_query and then I can build my query with dynamic sql and use a variable for the dblink name. Then I just create an IRR based on my collection. Does that sound like that correct approach and/or am I missing anything?

Aug 21, 2013We just upgraded from Application Express 4.0.2.00.07 to Application Express 4.2.2.00.11. We are using one common application to authenticate and redirect to other applications.
We use the following code:
wwv_flow_custom_auth_std.login( P_UNAME => :P101_USERNAME, P_PASSWORD => :P101_PASSWORD, P_SESSION_ID => v('APP_SESSION'), P_FLOW_PAGE => '2000:1' );
We start to get the following authentication error after the upgrade. There is no authentication configured for this application.
ORA-1403: no data found This is the same code we used from htmldb 2.x through Apex 4.0.2.00.07.

Mar 5, 2013We are close to successfully getting our CAS authentication integrated with Apex Listener 2.0 and Apex 4.2.1. We are using Weblogic app server for the Listener configurations and have been able to get the remote_user passed to Apex after login to CAS. We just set the header variable in the new 'HTTP Header Variable' authentication scheme. However there is a glitch at the callback from CAS -- we get the error 'wong number of types of arguments in call' and the URL shows: ..... /apex/apex_authentication.callback.
I see the documentation about this CALLBACK procedure, but am not sure how to set it to go back to the application. I know that CAS is working and passing the userid to the application because I can manually type in the app URL .... /apex/f?p=xxx and I immediately get into the application and the correct userid is identified --whereas initially when I hit the same application it sends me to our Central CAS server for login.
where the parameters of this procedure need to be set and how to set them. I assume the procedure needs to be called by Weblogic?for the callback to find the original calling application so it doesn't have to be 'hard-coded'. I see that one of the parameters is 'p_app_id'. I think our Weblogic engineer was assuming the call to that procedure would 'take care' of the return to the original calling application but obviously we have missed some configuration.

Last wednesday in our linux server maximum number of processes have overflowed and we need to increase the soft limit of our linux server. After that without restarting database every applications [OID 10g] are working fine. But, we are not able to connect with system using OS authentication. It is showing following.

Security :: Database Authentication Through Open LDAP
Mar 28, 2013I'd like to have my 11g database authenticate users against an OpenLDAP service. We'd still create accounts in the database, and do authorization within the database, but I'd just want to the user's passwords authenticated externally, against the OpenLDAP service. Is this possible? My searching through these forums and Google seems to indicate that you can do it if you run an Oracle Internet Directory (OID) service. I do not want to have to install and maintain an Oracle Internet Directory service. I'd like to do it without it.
I have a working PL/SQL function (below) that can authenticate a passed in username & password against our OpenLDAP directory. Is there any way for me to have Oracle call this function for the database user authentication? Or is there any other way for me to get the Oracle database to directly authenticate against OpenLDAP without having to run OID?

Error In OS Level Authentication For Oracle 11gR2 Database Access?
Mar 18, 2011We have an issue regarding OS level authentication to access Oracle 11gR2(11.2.0.1) database.
Our environment -
UNIX - AIX 5.3 (OS user id password is having kerberos security).
Oracle 11.2.0.1 (32 bit client) installed in server 1
Oracle 11.2.0.1 (64 bit server) installed in server 2.
Everything works fine when we created a general userid test_db in the database and connect through sqlplus test_db@dbname.
But when we try to use the option of OS level authentication using "sqlplus /", it throws following error and could not be connected.
ERROR: ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
I have created the same OS user name in database (with external password authentication) with prefix OPS$. we have set ORACLE_SID as well.

But in 11g, the salt will different in the two databases. So the hash will be different. And of course Oracle never stores the actual password. So I don't see how the authentication works.

I have the same setup but with oracle on windows server, the os authentication from windows clients works just fine.

I have IR wit one column link target to URL, and it uses javascript:my_function(#COLUMN_VALUE#)as URL, that is, calls some function and passes the value of that column to the function; everything works fine; but when I place a cursor over the link, bottom line of IE9 browser (is it called a 'status bar'?) clearly shows:
'javascript:my_function(<actual value>)' Is there any way to prevent it from showing function name and parameter value? I tried onmouseover="window.status='';"but it does not work

I have a table with engineering drawing information (drawing number, title, revision, etc.) and another table with the corresponding drawing files (pdfs stored as blobs where the filename is the drawing number with a pdf extension). The user wants to search for a particular drawing by drawing number from the drawing info table and if the drawing number exists in the drawing files table the drawing number will also be a download link for the file, if the drawing number doesn't exist in the drawing files table than the drawing number will display as plain text (not as a download link).

May 3, 2013I have a report linked to a form. The link column is currently ROWID and I want to change it to the Primary Key of the DB table, which is called ID.
I have done this before on a previous report/form where that ID was a display column and it works fine. Now I'm trying to copy what I did, which is this:
On the report page, go to Interactive Report attributes, scroll down to Link Column, and for Item 1, change the Name and Value.
The problem is that Name does not list P52_ID. If I type it in, it throws an error when I run the page.
I think I added ID, which is also a Display column, later on, so I wonder whether Apex has a refresh issue and can't "see" P52_ID.

Sep 29, 2012I am using theme 4, topaz. Region_Position_06 is a home link.
I have placed a company graphic at this position on page zero, and when a user clicks it on any page, she exits that page and goes to the home page, a main menu page. So no matter how deep a user may be into the application's pages, she may always click this logo image and return directly to the main menu page.
This is convenient, but there is one problem. Clicking this logo does not clear the cache on the page the user is exiting or, for that matter, on any page in the trail of pages the user took to get to the current page. I navigate primarily with buttons and always clear the cache on a page when I exit it. I need to find a way to do this when a user clicks the logo image.
