Server Utilities :: Exporting From Physical Standby
Aug 3, 2012
I would like to export few tables from the physical standby which is in read only mode.
I have tried both the exp and expdp methods and could successfully export and import the tables from physical standby using exp unfortunately the expdp does not allow this process from a read only database.
Does this mean that we still have to use the exp feature instead of expdp ?
Note : I would expect a proper response from experts and no unwanted comments like "Contact Oracle support" or "Paste the entire command here" or "Read the Manuals" or "Why i am exporting from Standby and not from Primary" etc.

I want to configure CASCADED Physcial Standby Server...Can i give the DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT parameter in the primary DB Server as
*.DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT=(
'C:\ORACLE\ORADATA\PRIMARY\','E:\ORACLE\ORADATA\STANDBY1\','E:\ORACLE\ORADATA\STANDBY2\',
'E:\ORACLE\ORADATA\PRIMARY\','B:\ORACLE\ORADATA\STANDBY1\','G:\ORACLE\ORADATA\STANDBY2\')
Or in the Standby1
*.DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT=(
'E:\ORACLE\ORADATA\STANDBY1\','E:\ORACLE\ORADATA\STANDBY2\',
'B:\ORACLE\ORADATA\STANDBY1\','G:\ORACLE\ORADATA\STANDBY2\')
I searched in google but could not able to find anything in this regard.

I am having a few issues trying to set up a physical standby database.
The primary database has a different naming structure than the standby and they are at different sites.
Physical is /var/hpsrp/ctrorp03/oradata/u0x/<DB_NAME>/<DB_UNIQUE_NAME> and standby is /var/hpsrp/drforp03/oradata/u0x/<DB_NAME>/<DB_UNIQUE_NAME>.
I have set db_file_name_convert to '<PRIMARY PATH>', '<STANDBY PATH>' times the number of paths as pairs. I have created a blank database for standby and having taken a full backup of primary with control file and standby control file.
Now I hit the issues:
The DB incarnation numbers are different. When I try and do a normal restore e.g. set dbid, restore controlfile; mount; it fails as it is trying to find files in the primary structure and not standby structure. When I try renaming via set newname or auxname it can't find files to restore I guess due to the incarnation id's. If I set the incarnation id and try to restore backup it fails as the incarnation id's don't match.
I have tried looking through various forums and the documentation but can't find a solution, probably can't see the wood for the trees though as there is so much.

I am exporting a table that is 3 GB in size and also Partitioned with option NOCOMPRESS specified.
Now when i export it with COMPRESS=N option of exp utility then it should take 3 Gb in target server but will exporting it with COMPRESS=Y will save some storage during import or once NOCOMPRESS option specified on partition has no impact on exp utility COMPRESS=Y option and it will take 3 GB space in both cases
Is this true that whether u specify COMPRESS=N|Y during export it does not matter the size will be 3 GB always after import?

extract a huge amount of data from a couple of views... the problem is that they want it in TXT files with fixed record length. There will be like 6 files, for a total amount of about 10GB.
export those tables in the fastest possible way? If I'm not mistaken exp and expdp can't create txt files, so do I really need to use utl_file or spool?

I taking export using consistent parameter. Theoretically i can understand . practically i couldn't understand how it works.
for ex
I am updating tab1 table under sams user. table having one lakh records.
while updating the query using consistent=y and consistent=n. i mean
exp sams/sams file=cons.dmp owner=sams consistent=y
exp sams/sams file=cons2.dmp owner=sams consistent=n
then both files imported to separate user(sam ,san).
Updated info not visible in san and sam user.
I want to know practically how it works. I need perfect example. while using consistent=y and consistent=n

I am trying to export a partition of a table and import it to another database. I get the below error when I try to import.
ORA-14400: inserted partition key does not map to any partition
If I export the table(for that particular partition) and import the table(after dropping the table) in destination, the partitions and sub partitions are created without any problem.
The table is Range Partitioned and Sub partitioned in List. So I had to perform the below operation if I want to retain other data in the Destination table.
1. Drop the existing partition
2. Create the partition and sub partition, same as source
3. Execute imp
In fact I had to perform step#2, as if I split the partition also, the sub partition gets replicated in the new partition, which again throws the same error. Is there better way of managing the partitions and subpartition in destination with exp/imp utility, so that I need not perform step#1 and step#2 manually.

I have dataguard configuration operating in maximum availability mode with a local standby db (A - lgwr sync not using real time apply) and a remote standby db (B - lgwr async). I then simualted a crash of my primary database with batch jobs running. Since the stby db A is in lgwr sync option ,all the commited data in the current online redo log has been transmitted to stby A and is present in its stby redo log (Group 2).How do I apply this stby redo log to the remote stby db.
Tried the following methods.
1.ftp the stby redo log to the remote db and tried to regiter it, got an error that it is not completely archived.
2.issued the recover standby database command and supplied the stby redo log when it asked for the sequence in the stby redo, got an error saying there is corruption in a block(tried this option multiple times ended up with the same result.)

I'm trying to export a relatively large database but it's a bit more complicated than that. For one schema I need a full export / import (data included).
For another 10 schemas I need them empty, with the exception of a table in some of them which needs to be exported / imported with all data inside. Is it possible to do this with datapump utility (impdp, expdp)?
Afterwards I will be running some scripts to populate the DB instance with critical data / metadata.

I need to rename an Oracle9i database on windows which has a physical standby database running on a different machine.
I have the steps to rename the primary database but am unsure of it's impact on the physical standby database. It seems like I will have to re-create the physical standby database, since renaming the primary database involves opening the db with "resetlogs". It's a production environment hence can't play with it without knowing the results.

I have a Physical Standby database on server#2 which has its UNDO and TEMP tablespaces in a mount point that is a bit small. I discovered yesterday that this mount point was completely filled. This is not an immediate problem, because even though the TEMP and UNDO tablespaces are large, there is almost no usage of them.
I logged into my Primary, and created a new temp tablespace (TEMP2), made it the database default, dropped the TEMP tablespace, and then re-created the TEMP tablespace in a different mount point (with a much higher capacity!). I then made the new TEMP as the database default temp tablespace again. I expected that these changes would be propagated over to the Physical Standby via log application, but they didn't come over.
I have standby_file_management set to AUTO, and there are no unapplied logs. Everything OTHER than the temp tablespaces seems to be in synch.

We're currently in a situation where the primary database server fs size does not match the standby database server fs size.
Standby database filesystem is almost 100% utilized, and we suggested to move some of the datafiles first to avoid threshold alerts and archive gaps.
Now, if we're gonna move datafiles on the physical standby, I believe the process would be stop managed redo apply -> shutdown standby -> OS move -> startup mount -> alter rename -> start managed redo apply. Is this correct? If not, how?
Also, would it have an effect if the controlfiles of primary and standby do not match because of the movement?

I have an issue whereby our standby instance was down for a couple of days and when it came back online we found an archivelog file was missing, so recovery only happened up to a point. It appears that the archivelog was deleted therefore we are unable to continue with this standby. We are now planning to rebuild the standby database. As far as i know all of the steps originally performed need not be performed to complete this task.
1. Shutdown standby
2. Delete all datafiles & redo logs
3. Copy over datafiles to respective directories
4. Copy online logs and archivelogs to standby.
5. Create a control file for standby database
6. Startup mount standby database
7. start redo apply
