Product User Profile - Restrict User From Running Queries On DB From Third Party Tools
Apr 25, 2011There is a requirement in my database that I want to restrict the user from directly running queries on database from third party tools such as pl/sql developer and toad.
There is a utility in SQL product_user_profile through which this can be done but it is only restricted if you run the query through sql plus. If I want to restrict and (give suppose select,insert) to a user for directly running queries through PL/SQL.

May 11, 2010I have a view in schemaA called viewA for example. The view is quite complex, with multiple joins.I've granted ALL to schemaB to the view, and to all the referenced tables within the view.However, when I run execute the view from schemaB, I get a ORA-00942 table or view does not exist.
SQL> select * from schemaA.viewA;
select * from schemaA.viewA
*
ERROR at line 1: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
I suspect that Oracle is creating to temporary tables/views internally (or using something that is already there), and that I need to grant access to these temporary objects.

Sep 14, 2010I have upgraded oracle database from 9i to 11g using export and import utility. After migration we are facing performance issue in report generation, We have observed that First execution of report is taking very long time and when we generate the same report 2 -3 times there is considerable change in the execution time and it is more better than the first execution.
2 days back I have restarted the database and found the same issue. There are around 300 Reports and it is not possible to generate all the reports 2-3 times every time we restart the database.

Jun 4, 2013I have two queries that I need to run and compare the outputs against each other. Each query runs on a different host. I can run each query on a different pane (Window - I am using Toad for running query). What I am trying to do is:
- Run both queries on a single pane
- Compare the output where if a "study" matches on both query output, then display the result.
To being with, is it possible to run the queries on a single pane by defining SID string as a part of query syntax......?

DB Upgrade From 11.1 To 11.2 - Statement Running For Long
Feb 21, 2011After Migrating from 11.1 to 11.2 SQL Statements are running for a long time. Our DBA told that they don't have any execution plans for the SQL Statements in 11.1
I don't want to rewrite the SQl Statement as this is working fine in 11.1. Our DBA conveyed us that they are using DBMS_STATS.AUTO_SAMPLE_SIZE for Schema Level.
But we have planned to generate DBMS_STATS.GATHER_TABLE_STATS Estimate Percentage ==> 100 for only the tables that are used in SQl Statements.
Of course we can change the parameters.. But we are afraid it may have some side effects.
Queries Running For Hours Because Of Execution Plan
Feb 1, 2011I am using Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0 - Production
I have 2 schemas in my application.
1. Application schema
2. EOD(End of day) schema.
End of day schema is populated from Application schema whenever user runs EOD process. The tables are pulled like this.
1. Master tables : Always deleted and reinserted at each EOD process
2. Log tables for each transaction table: Delta between the last EOD and current EOD data is pulled and are used for populating transaction tables
3. Transaction tables: These are populated from log tables pulled from previous step. The logic is like this
Now based on these tables about 30 reports are generated in EOD schema. Please note that each transaction table will have a EOD_ID and any report generated uses the where condition <transaction table>.EOD_ID = <current EOD_ID>
My log table contract_log and transaction table is contract in EOD schema.

This logic is working fine. But we run more than 20-30 EODs the processing time increased to 10-15 hours.
It took some time to figure out the issue as a single query when run from toad or pl sql developer runs in few seconds but as a part of the whole package it takes 2-3 hours(each query).
The problem found was that oracle execution plan gets corrupted when the process starts. So what we did was to analyze the tables
after they are pulled. This perfectly solved our problem. Currently the whole process is taking only about 12-13 minutes where about 3 minutes is lost on analyze tables and indexes. I know this is a temporary solution as I need to get out of online analyze of tables and indexes.
My code for table and index regeneration is as below

Server Administration :: Session Inactive But Running Queries?
Mar 4, 2010I am using 10.2.0.4 oracle database on Solaris 10. We are running some Peoplesoft upgrade on one of the database from last 6-7 hours. The status of the session is INACTIVE from couple of hours. And the sql_id is null for these sessions.

While when i see the current sql from the v$active_session_history, it keep on changing after every 10-15 minutes. Using below query to find the sql_text for the session from v$active_session_history.

We have not faced issue like this during Peoplesoft upgrade. what could be the reason that the status is not changing while the base sqls keep on changing after every 10 minutes.
Long Running Update Statement In Sqlplus Session
Oct 7, 2010I ran one long running update statement in my sqlplus session, where it took hours together since we have millions of rows on the table.lock the system and left the office , the next day I found my system is rebooted, hope the session would have performed the long running update statement.
Now, I need to issue a commit for the session, since my system is rebooted I don't have opened session with me. so, How to issue commit to the session, which I have issued long running update statement.

Jul 31, 2013I have a Datamart DB which has a continuously increasing volume. I run a daily optimize job, to have the data analysed using the below:-
EXECUTE dbms_stats.gather_schema_stats(ownname=> 'xxx' ,estimate_percent=> 25 , DEGREE => 4, cascade=> TRUE );
analyze table xxx.abc compute statistics; But this optimization itself is taking nearly 4 hrs to complete and I can't afford to have the delay.
Is there a better way of running this optimization?

This view definition changes are related to FROM and WHERE clause (not columns/type). during load process, client/user may connect to current server and accessing these views. My question is what will be the reflection of changing view definition while user is accessing view?
I created a scenario-
STEP1: Created a view-

View definition is replaced by new definition while select is executing on that view. select returned number of records as per view definition one.
Performance Tuning :: Query Running For A Long Time In Second Schema
Apr 27, 2012I have a Query(report) which is running in <5 mins in one Scheme, where as the same is running for a long time in second schema. I have identified that an Index is scanning for more than 2000 Millions of records in second Schema, but this is scanning only 440 Millions in First Schema and hence it is fast. I am expecting the same to be done in Second schema.
I have verified the following
All records in tables in 2 schemas are same.
All indexes are same
Analyzed the tables
Gathered Histogram on all the columns as per the first schema.
But now i still have the same problem, don't know what could be the problem.

Performance Tuning :: Materialized View To Improve Search Queries?
Jan 31, 2012In search queries generally we select 10-25 columns (more can't be displayed on the screen) from 5-10 tables
Say in case of insurance related application, the search might be on policy number, policy holder's first name, policy holder's last name, region, policy type etc.
And not to many columns we are displaying on the screen, say, 4 tables have collectively 4 * 20 = 80 columns, then we are displaying say 12-15 columns with 2-3 columns have aggregates on it.
since the search criteria (e.g. first name, last name, policy number etc.) is not known till last moment it will be a generic dynamic query
Is it possible that instead we create a Materialized view with query with only joining conditions but no filter conditions and selecting only columns to be displayed on the screen and then we will refresh the materialized view (to take care of recent business transactions) and fire refined query with filter criteria on this materialized view
Select col1,col2,col3,col4,col5
From tab1,tab2,tab3,tab4
Where tab1.col1=tab2.col1

I am trying to import on table which i have the export dump file which i take using expdp previously when i load that table on the same host
by using below command:
expdp scott/tiger@db10g tables=EMP,DEPT directory=TEST_DIR dumpfile=EMP_DEPT.dmp logfile=expdpEMP_DEPT.log
after that i zip that dump and move it to external usb and now i need that table i copy that table and unzip that that dump
Command i am using to do the import is :
impdp scott/tiger@db10g tables=EMP,DEPT directory=TEST_DIR dumpfile=EMP_DEPT.dmp logfile=impdpEMP_DEPT.log
But the query of import is still runing even not showing any amount of rows to be imported.
i already make the tablespace in which the table was previosuly before dropping but when i check the sapce of tablespace that is also not consuming one error i got preiviously while performing this task is:

I have a quite complex view that selects from approx 10 long tables (approx 4M records each) and build one "customer sentence" pre customer id. I will be always getting just one row from this view, eg. select * from my_view where party_id = XYZ. I'll NEVER EVER select the whole view.
The problem is that running a query:
select * from my_view where party_id = XYZ takes really long time, while putting the party_id = XYZ condition directly into the view executes in 0.0 seconds.
After putting a ORDERED FIRST_ROWS(1) hint into a view the execution plans seems to be the same (or very similar) for both queries. Unfortunately, I can not transfer anything but screenshot from the environmnet - therefore I paste the exec plans as screenshots only - pls follow the link: [URL]...
