select to_clob(1) from dual union select wm_concat(sysdate) from dual;
wm_concat returns a clob. To make both queries in the union have the same type columns i convert the column in the first query to a clob but Oracle gives me an [1]: ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected - got CLOB error even though both are returning a clob value.
Each of the queries work individually and both return a clob value.
display or get values stored in a long column.i tried the below code, but myvar is shown as null. am i missing something here or is there a better apporoach than this ?. There are actually 16 rows returned for this query but with empty values for 'high_value' column which is critical for me. How can i do this long to varchar convertion ?
SET SERVEROUTPUT ON DECLARE my_var long; BEGIN for x in ( SELECT high_value FROM all_tab_partitions WHERE table_name = 'SALES_DISCOUNT' AND table_owner = 'CED12' ORDER BY partition_position DESC ) [code]....
I am more of a C/C++ guy and relatively amateur in oracle. I have to update a table field from "Long" to "CLOB". I have planned to do a simple alter table, and as far as I know there won't be any issues.
Queries: 1. Although I have triple checked, is there any scenario under which there can be any data loss during the data type change? The data is very critical and no data loss can be entertained. 2. Is there any easy way to update all the related views without having to do so manually? 3. Any particular precautions I should take before introducing the change?
I have a problem i need to convert a blob column contains pic file to long row
i had many tries but no one succeeded
----------------------------------- Source table | destination table id number | id number img blob | img long raw ------------------------------------
1 - INSERT INTO destination table SELECT id , img FROM Source table WHERE ROWNUM < 2
i have this error ORA-22835 Buffer too small for CLOB to CHAR or BLOB to RAW conversion (actual: 146092, maximum: 2000)
2 - INSERT INTO destination table SELECT id , dbms_lob.SUBSTR(img,0,2000) FROM Source table WHERE ROWNUM < 2
We are migrating a proc application as described below.
Old Env: UNIX Old DB: Oracle 8i
New Env: Linux New DB: Oracle 11g
New modules are successfully compiled in Linux environment. But we are facing issues in writing the output of VARCHAR datatype to a file.
find below the extract of code. EXEC SQL BEGIN DECLARE SECTION; varchar mcolmnvarchar[4]; EXEC SQL END DECLARE SECTION;
EXEC SQL DECLARE crs CURSOR FOR SELECT NVL(colmn,' ') FROM table1
memset(mcolmnvarchar.arr,'',4); //Was added for only Linux migration. Not present in unix env.
EXEC SQL FETCH c1 INTO :mcolmnvarchar;
cout << "Data at Stage one"<< mcolmnvarchar << endl; mcolmnvarchar.arr[mcolmnvarchar.len]=''; cout << "Data at Stage two"<< mcolmnvarchar << endl; fprintf(fptr,"%-4s",mcolmnvarchar.arr);
Above code works absolutely fine in Unix env with Oracle 8i. But with Linux env & Oracle 11g it is not working. No compilation or run time errors. Data at Stage one prints the output of database properly. But after null terminator code, Data at Stage two statement prints without any value. Value is lost after null terminator code.
Why it's not excluding '0-5' and '25-30', how I should write code to exclude this and Is there is any function in oracle to check for numeric in column and print.

I have a .xls file, which has few columns with Korean data. I have problem converting it into .csv. I converted it to UNICODE TEXT, which was TAB separated. I replaced tabs with commas. but still saved it as .txt file. Now I am using utl_file package to open and read.
I need to prepare a bilingual system (English and Arabic).
So i need to store data in English as well as in Arabic
Is there any possibility to convert the data from English to Arabic and Arabic to English through oracle forms
basically what i am thinking is let us suppose user selected the English version of the application and he entered all the data in English during saving the records i need to convert all the English data into Arabic and store it in another table for Arabic data reference.
I got an exception when I was using sesame adapter to dump a turtle file which contains long texts as objects into oracle semantic database. The exception information is:

resolve problem with move lob objects ? I move table partition and lob (BLOB) from one tablespace to another :
alter table EBIF.APO_T_VER_DISP_ACC_RESP MOVE PARTITION P1M20120901 LOB(SIGNATURE_PATTERN) STORE AS (TABLESPACE tmp) t able EBIF.APO_T_VER_DISP_ACC_RESP MOVE PARTITION have : pbeb_ap1.SYS>select partition_name , tablespace_name from dba_lob_partitions where table_name='APO_T_VER_DISP_ACC_RESP';
I have two different database servers where I need to migrate table data from one schema to another schema in batch wise for eg say 100 rows. I used BULK COLLECT with LIMIT. But to access BLOB data from table I have facing errors. What could be other approache to do the same.
here pc_work is a table containing BLOB data in sourse schema. I am fetch data from this table to table t1_test_work using dblink but not working
[ declare type array is table of test_work%ROWTYPE; L_DATA array; cursor C is select * from pc_work@prpctrg; begin open C; LOOP
I have a table containing BLOB column which stores scanned images. Due to an application error, few extra data was padded with BLOB data and now we want to remove it.
The table count will be near to 10 million rows.
We need to remove data from 161byte to 167byte of the blob data. I tried to do with DBMS_LOB.ERASE.But it will create blank spaces for the removed data. Here we need to reduce the size of BLOB data by 6 bytes by removing data from 161bytes to 167 bytes.
Since XML-files only contain character data, we could/should store it in a CLOB, rather than a BLOB.
But, One of my friend having a table where a column is defined as bloband came to know that XML data are being stored. I searched for some article with keyword 'How to insert large XML data in BLOB' But did not work.How to store the large xml content in a Blob and How to extract it?
I have a task to update one of the rows in a table (having only 2 columns, number and long) which is long data type. We are on Oracle 10g. Not sure how to use update for a long data type column.
I have tried using dbms_metadata_util.long2varchar, but still not getting what I want.
Below is the function code used to extract data from blob column. The function works fine when the blob data length < 2000 bytes. When it is more than, it is throwing an error as below.
Table name: mr_test Columns: id number seo blob
CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION fn_mr_blob(in_id IN number) return varchar2 IS len NUMBER;
[Code]....
ORA-01489: result of string concatenation is too long
when I replcae the
"SELECT myvar||trim(dbms_lob.substr(seo,bytelen,vstart)) into myvar FROM mr_test WHERE id = in_id;" with SELECT trim(dbms_lob.substr(seo,bytelen,vstart)) into myvar FROM mr_test WHERE id = in_id; myvar1 := myvar1||myvar; ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
I have upgraded oracle database from 9i to 11g using export and import utility. After migration we are facing performance issue in report generation, We have observed that First execution of report is taking very long time and when we generate the same report 2 -3 times there is considerable change in the execution time and it is more better than the first execution.
2 days back I have restarted the database and found the same issue. There are around 300 Reports and it is not possible to generate all the reports 2-3 times every time we restart the database.
I have a form with an item with "datatype=long". when I am typing in "Arabic" or "Persian" it break the text before line ends.but when I type in English "text" go to end line(in other words line fills to the end) and then breake to next line.It show that the problem is LANGUAGE.
nls_lang=AMERICAN_AMERICA.ar8mswin1256 Regional and language/regional option=Arabic(U.A.E) in the block/item property : wrap_style= word ----multi_line=yes
I have a long datatype field in which text of length more than 4000 is stored. I want to use editor for entering and displaying the data, but it shows the error:-
case 1: when editor is invoked directly- FRM-40735: WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger raised unhandled exception ORA-06502 case 2: when I write something in the field- FRM-40209: Field must be of form.
We are working on a performance tuning aspect, where in a table has a LONG datatype and number of round trips are increasing based on the number of rows fetched.i.e one round trip for every row.
Background.
1. created a table with LONG data type. 2. inserted bulk load of data. 3. set auto trace on and executed below tests..
SQL> select count(*) from test_long;
COUNT(*) ---------- 6110
SQL> desc test_long Name Null? Type ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ID NUMBER TESTLONG LONG [code].....
but on LONG column, irrespective of the array size the round trips does not reduce.
