I'm looking for a way to make CRLFs show in a CLOB.I'm feeding the insert statement with a concatinated string like this:
insert into table(Data) values (MyConc)
(MyConc is a string put togheter by another application)
Because of this I can't use the "|| chr(13) || chr(10) ||" because I only have that one concatinated string.Is there a character I can set in my string that automatically translates to a CRLF?
My CLOB-data should look something like this:
1;blue;Woodstock;;
34;giant;squid;attack;
5;blue;squid;;
And in this case the "MyConc" would look like this "1;blue;Woodstock;;[X]34;giant;squid;attack;[X]5;blue;squid;;[X]
where [X]=the character I need for CRLF =)

i have a master detail form, In Master block we have one field cheque amount and in Detail block we have field receiveable amount invoice wise. if company paid us a cheque amount we will enter this amount in Master block field Cheque amount and in detail block there will be invoice wise receivable amounts. i want to distribute the cheque amount in detail block invoice wise for example
Cheque amount in master block = 291
Invoice wise receiveable amount is as follows
Invoice No , receivable amount , Received amount
10, 196 , 0
20 , 95 , 0
30 , 54 , 0
Result should be as follows:
Invoice No , receivable amount , Received amount
10, 196, 196
20 , 95 , 95
30 , 54, 0
Received amount field should be distributed according to the receivable amount when recevied amount = cheque amount then remaining will be 0.

I have a multi record control block (basically a text item displaying 6 records) where user enters values and I want to process the values using pre-insert trigger.
I want to read value in each record and then do some tasks using a pre-insert trigger before I commit the values. To navigate between the records I was using first_record, next_record, clear_record built-ins but it gives errors like "40737-illegalrestricted procedure next_record in pre-insert trigger".

i need to have an SQL statement that will return only in one row.
in this SELECT statement,
select NVL(a.jj_crdr,'CR'),
nvl(a.CR_cnt,0) CR_cnt,
NVL(a.CR_amt,0) CR_amt,
NVL(b.jj_crdr,'DR'),
NVL(b.DR_cnt,0) DR_cnt,
NVL(b.DR_amt,0) DR_amt
[Code]...
it returned
Tot_cr tot_cr_amt tot_dr tot_dr_amt
1 100 0 0
because there is record for CR and there is no DR.
but when there's record in DR and no in CR, there's no record returned.
because the outer join is in the 2nd Select. i need to change the condition to: 'where a.jj_creator(+) = b.jj_creator' in order to return a record.
what i need is to be flexible so that it will return records even if one of the source doesn't have record.

I have some XML being returned from a web service, and it returns almost 900 variables. Whilst I am familiar with how to return these in a single row, do I can return a row for each variable? My DBA is very uncomfortable with creating a table with almost 900 columns, for obvious reasons. However, we already have plenty of tables with tens of millions of rows, so he's fine with that. I'll try and expand on the requirement. Below is some XML from the data returned to us:
<APPLICANT app_no="1">
<APPLSUMMARY>
<MAIN W="ZZ" X="{ND}"/>
<COUNTS Z="3" AB="0" BB="3" CB="0" DB="3" EB="3" FB="3" GB="0"/>
</APPLSUMMARY>
</APPLICANT>
I would like to be able to return a new row for each variable, For example:
VARIABLE | VALUE
----------------
W | ZZ
X | {ND}
Z | 3
And so on.

I am fetching records from many voluminous tables having multiple joins based on filter criteria filled from frond end application. As per the selected criteria, I want to have a pre-check if query would return more than 1000 rows then I have to show user a message saying that he should refine the search. Is there any performant way to query db and dynamically find record count and stops executions if it is going return more than the specified no of rows.

I'm writing a PHP page to display some data from an Oracle database. Unfortunately, I can't copy the code because it's proprietary. One of the columns in the db is of type CLOB. I'm having trouble getting the data from the CLOB column.
The way the code is now, is there is a query string read into a variable, and the query string variable is read into a function that then retrieves the data from the db. Once the result set is returned, it is parsed to get data from all of the columns. The issue is that I've never worked with CLOB data before, so I'm having some difficulty extracting the data for that column. I know I can use the DBMS_LOB.READ function, but I'm not sure how to apply it in this case. The following is a generic form of the query string I'm using with b.clob_col being the column I'm having issues with.
$queryString = <<<EOD
SELECT a.col1,
a.col2,
a.col3,
b.col4,
b.col5,
b.clob_col,
from table1 b
inner join b.col4
on blah1
inner join a.col2
on blah2
where blah
and blah
EOD;

Ok, CLOB columns are such a hassle.
I have a variable in my script: v_field1 VARCHAR2(32000);
This is part of a cursor record:
v_mf_table IS TABLE OF mf_detail%ROWTYPE INDEX BY BINARY_INTEGER;
v_mf_record v_mf_table;
I use a FORALL to insert the data into a table:
FORALL x IN v_mf_record.FIRST .. v_mf_record.COUNT
INSERT INTO monthly_mf_snapshot VALUES v_mf_record(x);
BUT! v_field1 is > 4000 characters. Does this trash my changes of using FORALL? Do I need to deal with 4k chunks in an UPDATE instead?

Working on building an application which will be in C# (.NET 3.5) and some PL/SQL. However, for the tables which have to store the data, I added a column, comments, to the table and assigned it a data type CLOB. No big deal, except my PL/SQL function is giving me errors if the CLOB built from several varchar2 rows exceeds 4000 characters. I understand the varchar2 field is restricted in 10g, but I was under the impression there wasn't such a restriction on a CLOB (hence the reason we're using it.)
I end up getting:
ORA-6502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
ORA-6512: at line 1
06502. 00000 - "PL/SQL: numeric or value error%s"
*Cause:
*Action:The db is 10g (will be upgrading to 11 in October, needs to work on both) on a Windows Server 2003 box (Archive/backup server and db)

I have two Oracle instances, both are 10.2.0.3..Executing the following results in two different results:
select N'Test" "result" from dual;
On one the output is:
resu
----
Test
and on the other the output is
result
----------------
Test
This seems to suggest that one is returning "Test" as a char(16) and the other as a varchar2 or nvarchar2. In both cases, NLS_CHARACTERSET is WE8ISO8859P1 and NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET is AL16UTF16.
Not being an Oracle DBA, I am not sure where to look.

The function definition in PL/SQL has IN OUT parameter as well as return statement. Using both we can return the values. Basic definition of a function is function can return only one value at a time.
The question is, Can we return a number thru return statement and a char value thru INOUT parameter. Is it possible to return two different values using these?

I used select distinct(work_order) to come up with the three different possible scenarios the problem is that i need all this information on a single row
work_order unitid frommi tomi frompm topm
2666054111 06-154 77.000 85.000 77.370 85.370
this is a conversion for distance. when i get this to work properly, it will generate reports on thousands of work orders with their converted distance markers.
