SQL & PL/SQL :: Carriage Return Line Feed Multiple Times In Same CLOB

Jan 31, 2012

I'm looking for a way to make CRLFs show in a CLOB.I'm feeding the insert statement with a concatinated string like this:

insert into table(Data) values (MyConc)

(MyConc is a string put togheter by another application)

Because of this I can't use the "|| chr(13) || chr(10) ||" because I only have that one concatinated string.Is there a character I can set in my string that automatically translates to a CRLF?

My CLOB-data should look something like this:

1;blue;Woodstock;;
34;giant;squid;attack;
5;blue;squid;;

And in this case the "MyConc" would look like this "1;blue;Woodstock;;[X]34;giant;squid;attack;[X]5;blue;squid;;[X]

where [X]=the character I need for CRLF =)

I am unable to form a 'case' clause to handle the fact that a list has to returned when the 'code' field from the second_table returns 'ALL'.

e.g.

Second_table
username code
A ALL
B 23
B 56
B 33

Third_Table

67

SQL Query - Return Operation Over Multiple Dates

Feb 16, 2011

I am new to SQL and I am just wondering if there is a solution to a problem I am having.I am using the piece of code below.Essentially what I am doing is selecting a field from a table and ordering that field in descending order. Using the Row_Number feature I then specify which Row I want to return.

Every day the row I will want is the Count of field1 for that day divided by 100 minus 1. This returns a single value of field1 and a single value of R.

I perform this operation every day. The only fields I change every day are the dates and the value of R. I use a seperate piece of SQL code to calculate R each day.

My problem is I have to often populate historical tables with this data. I can only run the code once for each day and for each value of R. Is there anyway I can alter this code such that it can return multiple values of field1 over several dates?The only way I can think of is to repeat the code multiple times using UNION but I am hoping there is a more efficient way.

SELECT *
FROM (SELECT Field1,
ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY field1 desc ) R
FROM table
WHERE date >= TO_DATE ('20110215', 'YYYYMMDD')
AND date < TO_DATE ('20110216', 'YYYYMMDD')
)
WHERE R = 1227
--Note: 1227 = (count(field1)/100)-1

insert into emp1 values (2,'Finance',20,4000);
insert into emp1 values (3,'Account',30,3000);

actual output :

empno deptname deptno sal
1 Bank 10 1000
1 Finane 20 400
2 Finane 20 4000
3 Account 30 3000

Expected output :

empno deptname deptno sal
1 Bank 10 1000
2 Finane 20 4000
3 Account 30 3000

SQL & PL/SQL :: Inserting Multiple Records With CLOB Using Select

Oct 11, 2013

I'm updating a large piece of legacy code that does the following type of insert:

INSERT INTO foo_temp
(id, varchar2_column)
SELECT id, varchar2_column
FROM foo;

We're changing varchar2_column to clob_column to accommodate text entries > 4000 characters. So I want to change the insert statement to something like:

INSERT INTO foo_temp
(id, clob_column)
SELECT id, clob_column
FROM foo;

This doesn't work, since clob_column stores the location of each text entry, rather than the actual content. But is there some way that I can achieve the insert with one call to a select statement, or do I need to select each individual record in foo, open the clob_column value, read it into a local variable and then write the content to the matching record in foo_temp?

PL/SQL :: How To Get Substring From A Column With Many Carriage Returns

Sep 21, 2012

I've got this situation.

In a not normalized table loaded with data from an excel file, I have a column containing a long string with many carriage returns so that after each of them it begins a new string I have to manipulate. I mean, in the column PERSON I've got something like this:

PERSON
_______
Jonh
Taylor
Software developer
...

Of course I have to write a Pl/Sql procedure extracting each string and I know that each string ends with a carriage return chr(13)||chr(10)

I think I should use the INSTR built-in function but I it'd be useful whether some of you had something ready.

Server Utilities :: SQL Loader - How To Dynamically Create Multiple Records Out Of One CSV Input Line

Jul 28, 2010

I need to load data from a CSV file where one of the CSV values determines how many records should be inserted.

Example of the input data:

KEYWORD;2;REC1_COL1_X,REC1_COL2_X;REC2_COL1_X;REC2_COL2_X
KEYWORD;3;REC1_COL1_Y;REC1_COL2_Y,REC2_COL1_Y;REC2_COL2_Y;REC3_COL1_Y;REC3_COL2_Y
KEYWORD;4;REC1_COL1_Z;REC1_COL2_Z,REC2_COL1_Z;REC2_COL2_Z;REC3_COL1_Z;REC3_COL2_Z,REC4_COL1_Z;REC4_COL2_Z
If the KEYWORD is found, then the next value determines how many value pairs will follow, and therefore how many rows should be created in the affected DB table.

As a result I hope to achieve this:

SELECT Column1, Column2 FROM testTable

REC1_COL1_X,REC1_COL2_X
REC2_COL1_X;REC2_COL2_X
REC1_COL1_Y;REC1_COL2_Y
REC2_COL1_Y;REC2_COL2_Y
REC3_COL1_Y;REC3_COL2_Y
REC1_COL1_Z;REC1_COL2_Z
REC2_COL1_Z;REC2_COL2_Z
REC3_COL1_Z;REC3_COL2_Z
REC4_COL1_Z;REC4_COL2_Z

I learned how to import data using Oracle SQL loader for cases where one input line more or less matches a (new) row in a DB table.

Spatial :: Convert Multi-line To Simple Line

Feb 13, 2013

Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0

We are processing spatial data from another source to display in our GIS environment. The data is a set of multi lines. The gtype is 2006. A typical geometry looks like:

SDO_GTYPE     2006
SDO_SRID      31370
SDO_POINT.X   NULL
SDO_POINT.Y   NULL
SDO_POINT.Z   NULL
SDO_ELEM_INFO (1,2,1, 7,2,1)
SDO_ORDINATES (105094.84, 195084.96,
105094.54, 195080.22,
105094.84, 195084.96,
105094.84, 195084.96,
105094.68, 195082.47 )

Now, this is not an actual multiline... it's just encoded as a multi line, but if you look at the coordinates you'll see that the end point of the first line is the same as the beginning of the second line (105094.84, 195084.96).

A better way to encode this geometry would be:

SDO_GTYPE     2002 <---
SDO_SRID      31370
SDO_POINT.X   NULL
SDO_POINT.Y   NULL
SDO_POINT.Z   NULL
SDO_ELEM_INFO (1,2,1)
SDO_ORDINATES (105094.84, 195084.96,
105094.54, 195080.22,
105094.84, 195084.96, <---
105094.68, 195082.47 )

Is there a standard function in Oracle that does this conversion for me? Or do I have to write my own :)

SQL & PL/SQL :: How Many Times Do The Inner Execute

Oct 2, 2010

I found this query in one of my stored procedures that updates a key for a value in a data table by reading the information from a master table.

The data table is: ITEM_INVENTORY
The master table is: MASTER_SOURCE_SYSTEM

UPDATE ITEM_INVENTORY I
SET I.SOURCE_SYSTEM_ID =
(SELECT NVL(M.SRC_SYS_ID,-100)
FROM MASTER_SOURCE_SYSTEM M
WHERE M.SRC_SYS_DESC(+) = I.SOURCE_SYSTEM_CODE )
WHERE ORG_CODE = 'TNXC'
AND EXISTS (SELECT 1 FROM MASTER_SOURCE_SYSTEM M
WHERE M.SRC_SYS_DESC(+) = I.SOURCE_SYSTEM_CODE )

The situation here is that:

1. There are about 15000 rows that match ORG_CODE = 'TNXC'.
2. The SOURCE_SYSTEM_CODE is same for all the 15000 rows and there is a matching entry for it in the MASTER_SOURCE_SYSTEM table.

My question is: Do both the inner select statements execute 15000 times?

The statement executes within a second and updates 15000 rows. How is this made possible?
