Restoring Oracle Home Patch Fails

Apr 29, 2011

[URL]......

The oracle documents mentions this file

$ORACLE_HOME/.patch_storage/<patch-id_timestamp>/restore.sh

But what I find in that directory is

$ORACLE_HOME/.patch_storage/<patch-id_timestamp>/rolback.sh

Where is the restore.sh file that the document is talking about.

Restoring Oracle Backup

Jul 12, 2011

My boss gave me a 1GB Oracle .dmp file, and I told him that I could handle it easily (ie, install Oracle on a machine, import the .dmp file, and export / move it onto a MS SQL server).

Oracle has turned out to be far more difficult to learn than I originally thought, however. Even after a week of reading search results and watching YouTube videos, I still feel completely in the dark.

Restoring an Oracle backup? (Once the backup is restored, that should be it - I have an ETL tool (Scribe Insight) for reading an Oracle database and moving it to SQL. I can use GoToMeeting for screen sharing.)

Oracle 11.2.0.1.0 Oradiag_oracle $HOME

Sep 13, 2010

From what I read so far this directory and sub directories get created everytime a user connects to Oracle. I have a few more questions:

1) Is there any other reason why this directory is needed?

2) is there anyway to re-direct the directory to a different location other than $HOME? is so how?

3) is there any way to disable the creation of this directory, is so how?

4) If it can't be disabled, I can write a script to remove information under that directory, what is safe to remove?

BTW, I am running on AIX 6.1 box if this information is pertinent to the issue.

Upgrade :: DBUA On Cloned Oracle Home

May 1, 2013

I am currently in the process of trying to upgrade a 10.2.0.4 database to 11.2.0.2. I am using DBUA to complete this work. I have a small issue which I cant work out and cant find anything on Google or oracle docs about it.

The home where the software for 11.2.0.2 is an ORACLE_HOME that was recently cloned from another 11g home. When im in the DBUA summary page before I kick off the upgrade the summary page lists the "TARGET" oracle home as the old 11g home and not the new "CLONED" one.

Obviously DBUA is picking up the target ORACLE_HOME from a file in the cloned home that has not been updated with the new CLONED home info. I have made sure all variables are set correctly including the PATH variable.

11g Database - Opatch Can't Find Oracle Home

Jul 15, 2011

I am trying to patch an Oracle 11g database. I can see from the logs that is was patched after it was created by a consultant but I cannot get Opatch to work.

C:\app\Oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1>java -version
java version "1.5.0_17"
Java™ 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_17-b03)
Java HotSpot™ Client VM (build 1.5.0_17-b03, mixed mode)
C:\app\Oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1>opatch>set ORACLE_HOME=C:\app\Oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1
C:\app\Oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1>opatch lsinventory -all
ORACLE_HOME is NOT set at OPatch invocation
The Oracle Home C:\app\Oracle\product is not OUI based home. Please give proper Oracle Home.
OPatch returns with error code = 1

OPatch failed with error code = 1

Java is set in the environment path but the Oracle home seems to be the issue. I checked the LOC parameter in the Oracle/Inventory folder and it is set correctly to C:\app\Oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1.

How To Patch Oracle 11g

Apr 19, 2012

I've been told by management this weekend I will be required to perform a complete patch of our Oracle 11g database.

Problem is I really have never installed / patched Oracle. I'm able to access pretty much any database here and interact with it from a SQL stand point so since I'm the only person in my entire office who knows SQL, they decided I can become their full blow DBA.

Currently the database is running a unpatched version:

Connected to:
Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
With the Partitioning, OLAP, Data Mining and Real Application Testing options

SQL>

Once I download the latest patch (11.2.0.2.0) files from Oracle & perform a complete backup using RMAN:

RMAN> backup full as compressed backupset database plus archivelog;

How exactly does one properly patch / update Oracle 11g to the latest version?

Server Administration :: Installation Of Oracle 11gR2 On Windows 7 64-bit Fails With ORA-12560?

Apr 15, 2012

I want to install Oracle EE 11gR2 on my Windows 7 Professional 64-bit laptop. Installed memory is 8GB.I need to install 32-bit server since Oracle Warehouse Builder will not run on a 64-bit o/s. Further, I use Toad 9.7.2 which will only recognise client 32-bit.

I had a few failed attempts, especially when the database was being created with the ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error,

So here's what I did:

Changed C:WindowsSystem32driversetchosts so that it contains two lines 127.0.0.1 localhost & ::1 localhost
Changed properties of setup.exe in the installation directory to be Windows XP SP2 compatible and run as administrator
Selected "install database software only" (so I could figure out at what step the installation fails)
Selected "single instance"
Selected "Enterprise Edition"
Selected oracle base "c:app" (instead of default location c:appd_seng)

Copy of files was completed successfully, log file was created in c:program files(x86)oracleinventorylogs & registry entries were added to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432NodeORACLE" (with keys KEY_OraDb11g_home1, ODP.NET & OracleMTSRecoveryService), and the following services were created:

OracleMTSRecoveryService: Started/Automatic
OracleOraDb11g_home1ClrAgent: Not started/Manual
OracleRemExecService: Started/Disabled

There are no listener.ora & tnsnames.ora yet. Sqlnet.ora is created with the line SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NTS)

Now I went to Start, All Programs, Oracle - OraDb11g_home1, Configuration and Migration Tools, right clicked on "Net Configuration Assistant" and changed the properties to be Windows XP SP2 compatible and run as administrator and ran it. I selected "Listener Configuration", added a listener called LISTENER, TCP protocol, port 1521 and finished. A service called "OracleOraDb11g_home1TNSListener" was created and started in automatic mode. The PATH was updated and listener.ora was created with the lines:

SID_LIST_LISTENER =
(SID_LIST =
(SID_DESC =
(SID_NAME = CLRExtProc)
(ORACLE_HOME = C:appproduct11.2.0dbhome_1)

[code]...

Tnsnames.ora is also creaed with the contents:

ORACLR_CONNECTION_DATA =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1521))
)
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = CLRExtProc)
(PRESENTATION = RO)

At the command prompt, lsnrctl.status shows:

The command completed successfully Now I went to start, all programs, Oracle - OraDb11g_home1, Configuration and Migration Tools, right clicked on "Database Configuration Assistant" and changed the properties to be Windows XP SP2 compatible and run as administrator and ran it.

I chose to create a databaseGeneral purpose Global database name ORCL SID ORCL Chose "Configure Enterprise Manager" & "Configure Database Control for local management" and disabled "Automatic maintenance tasks" Used the same password for all accounts

Selected storage type "File System" & "Use Database File Locations from Template" Unchecked Flash Recovery & Archiving Selected "Sample Schemas", "Typical" memory size (1228MB), "Use Automatic Memory Management" Left sizing/character sets/connection mode as default, and Selected "Generate Database Creation Scripts" in C:appadminORCLscripts (if I choose to Create Database, it fails with TNS Protocol Adapter Error).

I now open ORCL.bat in an editor, go to command prompt, create the directories as per the file, set ORACLE_SID=ORCL & path.

Running C:appproduct11.2.0dbhome_1inoradim.exe -new -sid ORCL -startmode manual -spfile gives a message "instance created" & services "OracleJobSchedulerORCL", "OracleVssWriterORCL" (started) & "OracleServiceORCL" (started) are created.

The next step C:appproduct11.2.0dbhome_1inoradim.exe -edit -sid ORCL -startmode auto -srvcstart system give an error "Unable to start service, OS Error 1056" (probably implies services already running), nothing is present in the windows alert logs about this. If I stop the service OracleVssWriterORCL, then this command completes, although no messages are returned.

The next step in the batch file starts sqplus /nolog and calls ORCL.sql.

ORCL.sql accepts passwords for sys, system, sysman & dbsnmp. It then executes host C:appproduct11.2.0dbhome_1inorapwd.exe file=C:appproduct11.2.0dbhome_1databasePWDORCL.ora force=y, which prompts me for the password for sys.

ORCL.sql then calls CloneRmanRestore.sql, which then tries to run connect "SYS"/"&&sysPassword" as SYSDBA

This is when I get the error ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error, which has been haunting me for days.

My gut feel is that the database creation step at sqlplus is unable to recognise the listener...or probably it does not recognise the modified registry location (with Wow6432Node), the file oracle.key in C:appproduct11.2.0dbhome_1BIN shows the string SOFTWAREORACLEKEY_OraDb11g_home1.

I then changed oracle.key to point to SOFTWAREWow6432NodeORACLEKEY_OraDb11g_home1, restarted the listener and ORCL service, but connecting as sys returns the same error.

Oracle Client 10g - How To Install Patch 4923768

Nov 17, 2010

I have installed Crystal reports server 2008 VI on a Windows 2008 64bit OS. I have added Crystal reports that connects to Oracle database through CMC. I then installed Oracle 10g client 32bit on the server and created and tested the required DSNs using ODBC 32bit. All the testings are successfull.

Now when I try to run my Oracle report through CMC it prompts for the parameters and when I enter them and click ok, gives me the following error: Failed to open the connection. Details: Database Vendor 12154.

I reported the above issue to SAP and they mentioned that this is a bug with Oracle and install the latest patch for my Oracle client software. My current Oracle client 10g 32bit version is: 10.2.0.1.0

I downloaded the patch 4923768 for Oracle client 10g. In the installation instructions, it mentions to apply the patch using OPatch. I already see the OPath folder in the C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1 directory, but I am not sure how to enter the command to apply the patch using OPatch. Do I have to do it using DOS window or any other tool? I don't have an Oracle admin in our company, so I am trying to figure out how to apply this patch on client workstations.

12. Ran the below command on grid and Oracle.
/opt/grid/11.2.0/grid/OPatch/opatch lsinventory
/opt/oracle/product/11.2.0/db/OPatch/opatch lsinventory

1. Let me know steps which are followed are right because I didnot see the version change after connecting to database? (for example 11.2.0.1.0 after applying I can see 11.2.0.1.4 but not changed the version). How should I know the patch is applied properly?

2. Is the above steps are applicable to HA setup.
