RAC & Failsafe :: Define DB Connection URL For Two Different SID Names In Single URL?

Apr 3, 2012

As you see in the following MY_DB_URL there are two hosts for one SID. This is works perfectly for oracle driver. When one of them is gone down, connection establishes with the other.

MY_DB_URL = jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=xx.xx.104.18)(PORT=1521))(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=xx.xx.104.19)(PORT= 1521))(FAILOVER=true)(LOAD_BALANCE=false)(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVER=DEDICATED)(SID=SIDNAME_1)))

But i have a problem. Our partner uses Golden Gate product, and they said that they must install two different oracle with two different SID names. (For Example one of them is SIDNAME_1 the other is SIDNAME_2) So i can't use this URL in my application.

Is there a way to define a DB connection URL for two different SID names in a single URL?

RAC & Failsafe :: JDBC Connection To A 10g Database?

Mar 30, 2005

The problem i mentioned in my last posting "CRS installation/PRIF-10: failed to initialize the cluster registry" was due to the fact i was using Redhat Linux 9 that seems to have some missing packages. I installed White Box RH 3 and everything worked fine.

if it's possible to connect to a 10g RAC database using the jdbc java thin client. the java thin client requires an ip, and database sid. I am running a two node cluster and i have two ip's and a service name that uses TAF option.

RAC & Failsafe :: Single Node - Online / Offline

Dec 5, 2012

I have implemented Rac One node with two machine(dbtest01,dbtest02) in 11.2.0.3 Redhat 5.3 one for online another one for offline. i have created TAF also.

dbtest01 is online and create one query
DECLARE
i number(36):=1;
begin
while(i<10000000)
loop
dbms_output.put_line(i);
i:=i+1;
end loop;
end;

i executed above query for test and i made relocate database using srvctl utility to dbtest02 machine.

session is relocated successfully with new session id...above query getting stop in 25000 itself. i want to make it continue that process..also i tried to find Omotion utility in all the path.. couldn't find it... where will it be.. i want to relocate all the session without losing work.

from application i am getting disconnect after relocation.. application server need to restart to get work again...

PL/SQL :: Single Long Connection Vs Multiple Short Connections To Oracle Server

Oct 8, 2012

A DB server (Oracle 11g) on Linux will support a Web Application Server (Java based) for hosting a public web site.For sending multiple INSERT statements over from the Java Server to Oracle Server, I have two ways to do it:

1) Wrap those insert statements together and send it over with one connection to Oracle

2) Send each insert statement separately to Oracle. As the result, multiple insert statements are sent and accordingly multiple connections to Oracle are needed.

Advantage of option 1 is just using one Connection. Disadvantages are that Oracle will then need to parse the statement string into multiple separate insert statements, and then loop through them to execute each. This may be costly in CPU sense.

While the option 2 may have quicker execute of each insert statement, but will need to create multiple connections.If the number of users is known and stable (such as intranet), I would prefer option 1; while for the internet there could hundreds concurrent users at the peak, I lean towards the option 2.

I would like get more details about single node RAC.. What is single Node RAC?..

1). just configure only one server instead of two node... same RAC installation.. cluster installation and shared disk configuration in single server itself.. in future we can add node to this ...
2). in 11gR2 having new feature Single Node RAC.. Multiple instances running on same node and configure using Cluster...

is there any advantage using single node rac(other than online upgrade to full RAC).

Dynamically Define Database Link To Use (at Session Level)?

Sep 1, 2010

Three databases: A, R1, R2. Database A is local and the other two databases are remote. Database A has one db link to each remote database (dblinkR1 and dblinkR2).

In some of my queries I need to get data from the remote databases, but the remote database to use depends on the application user, so, I would like to dynamically use one of the database links.

Something like this:

1  user logs into the application;
2  based on the user credentials the application defines the db link to use;
3 query data using the defined db link.

(for example)

SELECT a.col1, a.col2 FROM table_A@dyndblink a ORDER BY a.col1;

@dyndblink would be a "pointer" to dblinkR1 or dblinkR1.

Is there a way to dynamically define the database link to use (at a session level)?

SQL & PL/SQL :: Describe Results / Define Output And Fetch Rows Of A Query

Jun 2, 2010

There are several stages for sql processing in 10g2 database concept document.The following stages are necessary for each type of statement processing:

■ Stage 1: Create a Cursor
■ Stage 2: Parse the Statement
■ Stage 5: Bind Any Variables
■ Stage 7: Run the Statement
■ Stage 9: Close the Cursor
Optionally, you can include another stage:
■ Stage 6: Parallelize the Statement

Queries (SELECTs) require several additional stages, as shown in Figure 241:

■ Stage 3: Describe Results of a Query
■ Stage 4: Define Output of a Query
■ Stage 8: Fetch Rows of a Query

Stage 3: Describe Results of a Query The describe stage is necessary only if the characteristics of a query's result are not known; for example, when a query is entered interactively by a user. In this case, the describe stage determines the characteristics (datatypes, lengths, and names) of a query's result.

Stage 4: Define Output of a Query In the define stage for queries, you specify the location, size, and datatype of variables defined to receive each fetched value. These variables are called define variables. Oracle performs datatype conversion if necessary.

I still don't understand what's Stage 3: Describe Results of a Query and Stage 4: Define Output of a Query.

PL/SQL :: How To Replace 2 Single Quotes To Single Quote

I have an script.sql that receives as a parameter an string.

user_account_value varchar2(120) := '&1';

EXECUTE IMMEDIATE "Select * from Table where column = :1 "  USING user_account_value I am not sure how to deal with string that contains single quotes.

If the parameter were passed as : "o''connor" this will work
If the parameter is pass as: "o'connor" this will not work.

so my question is what options do I have to deal with dynamic queries and single quotes.

I tried replacing replace(myParameter,'''',''''''); but not working well.

Dynamic Categories Size And Names?

Nov 29, 2010

I need to display dynamically a bunch of categories and I need the SQL algorithm to determine their size and names.

So, I have a table with one column and a variable number of records and I need to display them in GUI in pages, displaying also the page name which should be something like short name for first item to short name of last item in category.

Maximum items per page in 10 but I don't want to simply display blocks of 10 records. If the name of the 8th item starts with B and the name of the 9th item starts with C I want the first page to contain only the first 8 records. Minimum accepted items per page is 8, maximum is 10. The split should be based on the first 2 characters. Page name should be something like: first 4 chars of first item in category - first 4 chars of the last item in category.
