PL/SQL :: Valid Objects Need To Be Compiled While Running Packaged Procedure

Aug 8, 2012

I have a requirement to create a packaged proc which lists down a set of database objects and its statuses whenever the status of objects is changed as valid/invalid in user_objects. Also, those valid objects need to be compiled while running the packaged proc.

When Are Statements Within Stored Procedure Compiled

Jul 23, 2010

connect the following concepts/information I've been collecting. This is not my field but I'm interested in filling some of mine conceptual/technical gaps.

From a JDBC perspective, one of the benefits of Prepared (and so Callable) statements have over the regular ones is that the statement is "compiled"(*) once and then reused (performance gain).

(*) for SQL statements: building of parse tree and exec.plan

In which way can this notion be extrapolated to invocation of Oracle Stored Procedures through CallableStatements? (After clearing my doubts, I may end concluding that the only relevant feature of CallableStatements is their capacity to deal with stored procedure invocations)

According to procedure's precompiled execution plan SQL compilation implies execution plans generation PL/SQL compilation implies P-code generation and, SQL statements (from PLSQL code) are treated no differently by Oracle than SQL from Java or C/C++. These SQLs will be parsed and execution plans for those SQLs created.
...
When the PL code executes the SQL statement, only then does the SQL engine receive the SQL, parse it, and create an execution plan for it.

Therefore, even when the stored procedure can be parsed and cached in SGA (through the OracleConnection.preparedCall("proc") invocation), the SQL statements won't be effectively compiled until they are executed, right? And going deeper, will those SQL statements be cached to be reused in future invocations of the containing stored procedure? Is this a characteristic of the regular stored procedure execution in Oracle? or is it due to the CallableStatement "origin"?

SQL & PL/SQL :: Calling Packaged Procedure With Refcursor As Out Parameter Over DBlink?

Oct 7, 2011

I have a requirement in which I have to call a packaged procedure created in one database DB1 to other database DB2 through a DBLink. The packaged procedure to be called has refcursor as OUT parameter.

When I run the procedure in DB1 , it works fine:
Declare
v_ref_data SYS_REFCURSOR;
a1 Number;
b1 varchar2(100);
c1 varchar2(100);

Begin
apps.XXCU_DB1_PKG.get_DB1('101062','9138', v_ref_data);

FETCH v_ref_data into a1,b1,c1;
dbms_output.put_line(a1|| ' '|| b1|| ' '|| c1);
End;

When I run the packaged procedure from DB2 using DBlink, it gives error:

Declare
v_ref_data SYS_REFCURSOR;
a1 Number;
b1 varchar2(100);
c1 varchar2(100);

Begin
apps.XXCU_DB1_PKG.get_DB1@dblink('101062','9138', v_ref_data);
FETCH v_ref_data into a1,b1,c1;
dbms_output.put_line(a1|| ' '|| b1|| ' '|| c1);
...

I read somewhere on other forums that refcursors can not be passed through the DB links, is it true??

SQL & PL/SQL :: Writing Procedure In User 2 Schema Accessing Table Product - Not Compiled?

Dec 17, 2010

I have got 2 users as user1 and user2.I have used the following statements from user 'user1':

create role GENEVAOBJECTS;
grant select, insert, update, delete on PRODUCT to GENEVAOBJECTS;
grant GENEVAOBJECTS to user2;

In the above statements, product is a table. Now, I could able to access this table from user 'user2'. But however if I write a procedure in user2 schema accessing the table product, then the procedure is not getting compiled.

create or replace procedure test_prc as
v_test number(9);
begin
select product_id into v_test
from PRODUCT where rownum=1;
...

why I cannot access that table from procedure?

Procedure Running In Infinite Loop?

Oct 1, 2012

I have a procedure with following code which runs in infinite loop.

BEGIN
LOOP
line :='Test Message';
UTL_SMTP.write_data(l_mail_conn, line || Chr(13));
END LOOP;
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS THEN
UTL_FILE.FCLOSE(NAMESFILE);
END;

I executed the procedure and disconnected from sql developer by killing the sql developer process from task manager. Reconnected and changed the code and when i tried to compile the procedure. It is not compiling, because the procedure is already running in infinite loop by some other session.

Is is possible to stop the running procedure without killing the session.What will happen if the procedure is not stopped which is running in infinite loop.When I queried the following found that the session is still ACTIVE and CPU used showing as '0' and executing the procedure.

select
SST.VALUE CPU, S.USERNAME, S.SID, s.status,S.SERIAL#, SQL_TEXT
FROM
V$SESSION S,
V$SQLTEXT_WITH_NEWLINES T,
V$SESSTAT SST
WHERE S.SQL_ID IS NOT NULL
....

Can I do force drop or alter this procedure?

SQL & PL/SQL :: Preventing Concurrent Running Of A Stored Procedure

Oct 9, 2012

I have a stored procedure that is run from a command within our Clarity application.

The procedure involves some SQL Reads and SQL Inserts.

We have experienced users running the SP at the same time (slim chance to do this) and it creating duplicate entries.

if there is a clever way of preventing the same SP to be run concurrently?

Initially I was thinking of having the first step of the SP to interrogate a flag into a custom table - which the SP then sets to 1 if it is running, and 0 at the end.

Are there better more efficient/effective ways of doing this?

Application Express :: Packaged Application Is Missing Tables

Dec 5, 2012

We installed the packaged application P-Track in a schema called cpd in Apex version 4.2.0.00.27. When running it, the error below occurs. Essentially it appears that some of the tables are missing as the package does not compile due to tables not being found. We had no trouble running other sample packaged apps. SQL & PL/SQL :: How To Get Valid Data After Skip Bad Block

Mar 19, 2011

I have a table and no related backup available.If some block is broken, then , how can I get the data with the blocks that are not broken?

Test environment:

SQL> create tablespace test datafile '/u01/app/oracle/oradata/test/test.dbf' size 1m;

Tablespace created.

SQL> create table scott.test_bad_block (id int, name varchar2(20)) tablespace test;

Table created.

SQL> r
1 begin
2 for i in 1..1000000 loop
3 insert into scott.test_bad_block values (i, 'test' || i);
4 commit;
5 end loop;
6* end;
begin
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01653: unable to extend table SCOTT.TEST_BAD_BLOCK by 8 in tablespace TEST
ORA-06512: at line 3
SQL> select count(*) from scott.test_bad_block;

COUNT(*)
----------
40984

Now I know, I have 40984 rows in the table.In order to simulating the block corrupt, I shutdown the database and I used the bvi (a binary file editor to modify a line of record) , then start the database, when I am issuing the same statement, the problem shows:

SQL> select count(*) from scott.test_bad_block;
select count(*) from scott.test_bad_block *
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01578: ORACLE data block corrupted (file # 7, block # 72)
ORA-01110: data file 7: '/u01/app/oracle/oradata/test/test.dbf'

It says that the block is corrupted.Now, here is what I can do to get the data right now:

#get the object id
SQL> r
1* select OBJECT_NAME, DATA_OBJECT_ID from dba_objects where owner='SCOTT' and object_name='TEST_BAD_BLOCK'

OBJECT_NAME DATA_OBJECT_ID
-------------------- --------------
TEST_BAD_BLOCK 10327
....

Here are my questions:

1. How can I know, that if there is valid data(the block is not corrupted) after this bad block?
2. How can I get the data after this bad block?

SQL & PL/SQL :: ORA-01839 - Date Not Valid For Month Specified?

Nov 1, 2013

our web application has a field DATETO which has no validation (end date). So user can put garbage there. In this field should be SYSDATE + max. 2 years. But also SYSDATE + 1 month OK.

I need to make a script that sets for example "31.12.9999" to null. Because so long end date is non sense.

SQL> SELECT EXTRACT (YEAR FROM (TO_DATE (DATETO, 'DD.MM.YYYY')))
FROM XXX_USER_JC_ORDERID
WHERE DATETO IS NOT NULL;
ERROR:
ORA-01839: date not valid for month specified

no rows selected

Littlefoot writes about ORA-01839 "It usually happens when invalid dates are used, such as 30th of February"..

I don't see invalid date???

SQL> SELECT DATETO

SQL & PL/SQL :: ORA-24247 With Valid ACL When Sending Smtp Mail?

Aug 1, 2012

I have users with the same privileges to the same ACL and some can send emails and some others cannot !

In principle I created the ACL for USER1:

BEGIN
dbms_network_acl_admin.create_acl
(acl=> 'mails_senden.xml',
description=> 'Mails senden ueber INTRANET Mail-Server ...',
principal=> 'USER1',
is_grant=> true,
privilege=> 'connect');
COMMIT;
....

Then I added USER2:

BEGIN
dbms_network_acl_admin.add_privilege
(acl=> 'mails_senden.xml',
principal=> 'USER2',
is_grant=> true,
privilege=> 'connect');
....

USER1 sent a mail via UTL_SMTP successful whereas USER2 got the errors:

DECLARE
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-24247: network access denied by access control list (ACL)
ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_TCP", line 17
ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_TCP", line 267
....

There is still the following fact:

USER1 has the role DBA, USER2 got the EXECUTE privilege to packages UTL_TCP, UTL_SMTP (GRANT from SYS).

IF the role DBA was granted to USER2 too then he couldt send emails just as well as USER1.
