Dec 21, 2010
I want to create system table space's extent management dictionary with the syntax:
CODEcreate database
logfile
group 1 ('/u01/app/oradata/anand/redo1a.log') size 100M,
group 2 ('/u01/app/oradata/anand/redo2a.log') size 100M,
group 3 ('/u01/app/oradata/anand/redo3a.log') size 100M
datafile '/u01/app/oradata/anand/system.dbf' size 400M extent management dictionary
sysaux datafile '/u01/app/oradata/anand/sysaux.dbf' size 300M
default temporary tablespace temp tempfile '/u01/app/oradata/anand/temp.dbf' size 50M
but it is giving error
ERROR at line 6:
ORA-25141: invalid EXTENT MANAGEMENT clause
how can I make system tablespace's extent management dictionary?

a newbie dba here..
select TABLESPACE_NAME,
sum(BYTES) Total_free_space,
max(BYTES) largest_free_extent
from dba_free_space
group by TABLESPACE_NAME
/
result output is attached .txt file.
the SYSTEM & USERS table space shows only <10 mb free space. Is it a bad sign? What I should do ?

Question1. From googling , I gather that ASSM ( Automatic Segment Space Management ) is a new method used by Oracle to manage space inside data block. If this is the case, then it should have been named 'Automatic Block Space management' . Right ?
Question2.What was the most notable advantage in your opinion in using ASSM as opposed Manual Segment space management ?

am using Oracle 10.2.0.4 on win 2008 server SP2. I would like to know if we can set the Segment Space Management feature to AUTO for RBS and Temporary tablespaces. As the data is not permanent in these tablespaces, will it manage automatically?
Presently its Segment Space Mgmt is manual for System, RBS, Temporary tablespaces.

I have one generic question about space management. I have one table with size of 1TB. This table stored in ORC1 tablespace. This tablespace contains 70 datafiles.
Since it's 10.2.0.4 database. I have dropped this table by using purge
drop table <<table_name>> purge;
Once table drop was completed. When I check the tablespace space it was 100% free but due to HWM was unable to resize the datafile from current size to small size. What was the reason behind this. Is there any process needs to follow when dropping big tables ? like instead of dropping the tables do I need to truncate first & then drop .

I have one tablespace called U01. This tablepspace contains 31 data files. Due to high water mark I was unable to most datafiles. Since my database running onair application they will not provide me downtime to move the tables. Is there anyway to fix the high water mark without getting downtime window? almost 700+g space unused. I need to reuse them asap because running out of space with in asm diskgroup.

is it possible to get information about free space on drive/path for example with some DBMS_*, UTL_* package or with stored function based on Java
(e.g. CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION GetFreeSpace(driveLetter IN VARCHAR2) RETURN VARCHAR2 AS LANGUAGE JAVA NAME 'DiskSpace.getFreeBytes(java.lang.String) return java.lang.String') but for JDK 1.3

We are in the process of gaining some space in our database. We identified a tablespace that occupied around 400GB of space. The datas are required for us. Hence, we truncated (with drop storage) the tables, gathered statistics and shrinked the tables. After doing that we found the datafile occupied around 32GB of space. We tried to resize it to 5 GB and we got "ORA-03297: file contains used data beyond requested RESIZE value". We could see that size in dba_free_space against that tablespace. We would like to give back everything to OS.
We also tried exporting the tablespace without rows, dropped the tablespace and re-created and imported again. But the datafile grows to around 32G and we are unable to resize it.
We are sure that the tablespace has only the table definitions without data. But we do not know why is it occupying around 32G of space and we could see that size in dba_free_space. We would like to give back everything to OS. How can we do that?

In normal days size of archives generated in a day is 14-15GB. But since yesterday morning, almost 150GB of archives have been generated and are still getting generated(200MB every 1-2 minutes).
There was a sudden reboot of server yesterday morning. At that time there was heavy load of transactions on database. Can it be a reason that smon is still doing recovery? (I am not sure on this). Also, Undo tablespace is increased from 18 GB to 50 GB since yesterday (autoextend on).
Now we are running out of space for archive file system (can't delete them also until they are transferred to DR) Size of redo log is 200MB. This database supports around 2500 users.
performance wise I don't see any hit. Also wait events are normal. (only few db file sequential read) finding the query/session which are causing this much huge amount of archives?

After importing my dump, i have noticed that ARGUMENT$ segment taken more than 9 GB out of my total SYSTEM table space.I belive ARGUMENT$ table is used only to store procedure/package parameter details. But I am not sure Why it has taken more space.
Is there any way we can reduce the SYSTEM table space? using with the below details?
Import Details:
--------------
1) Imported using IMP DP. List of parameters used are userid, logfile, dumpfile, directory, job_name and remap_schema.
2) Dump file size is 3GB
3) The below list will be no. of objects imported using my dump.
OBJECT_TYPE COUNT(1)

4) The below list will be amount of space occupied by the segments in the SYSTEM.

I have some question about the parameter RESUMABLE 10G. My quesition is suppose if i am running a expdp process and if there is no space left on the file system the export fails. So in this case if we set the RESUMABLE parameter in the DB will it be useful to resume the expdp from where it fails or it will useful if we schedule a job for the export.

I have a partitioned table (one partition per month). Every month there are added about 1GB data. What extent size should I set? 1GB will be ok?
What if data will be greater than 1GB, adding new 1GB extent takes probably a lot of time and clients may see delays while they're inserting in this time? (it's OLTP system)
When new extent is allocated? Exact in time of lacking space in existing extent or before? Partitions are dropped after one year so free space isn't a problem.

Just now sysaux resized to 600m from 250m >>
Sysaux Tablespace is running low. WE SET AWR RETENTION TIME=60 DAYS. WE ARE NOT INTEREST TO EXTEND SYSAUX TABLESPACE SIZE.
Usually we take AWR weekly once. Some times we did ADDM report and ASH.
CODEsql>select TABLESPACE_NAME, FILE_NAME, BYTES/(1024*1024), AUTOEXTENSIBLE, MAXBYTES/(1024*1024) from dba_data_files where tablespace_name = 'SYSAUX';
TABLESPACE_NAME FILE_NAME BYTES/(1024*1024) AUT MAXBYTES/(1024*1024)
SYSAUX /u01/app/oracle/oradata/test/sysaux01.dbf 600 YES 32767.9844
CODEsql> @SCRIPT.SQ
TABLESPACE TOTAL_SPACE(MB) USED_SPACE(MB) FREE_SPACE(MB) % Used % Free
SYSAUX 600 248 352 41.33 58.67
1. What's the best SOLUTION ?
2. Can i shrink sysaux tablespace ?
3. I think , The size for all occupants in sysaux tablespace is less than 200 MB => how to find actual content of sysaux tablespace ?
4. What could be the reason for growth? Is there any way to free the space from sysaux table space?

In my database I found some anomalies like
SQL> select SEGMENT_NAME, SEGMENT_TYPE, BLOCKS, EXTENTS, BYTES/1024
2 from user_segments
3 where SEGMENT_TYPE='TABLE'
4 ORDER BY SEGMENT_NAMe;
[code]....
The countries table is missing in user_segments data dictionary view. But I can queries the countries using select statement.
SQL> SELECT * FROM COUNTRIES;
CO COUNTRY_NAME REGION_ID
-- ---------------------------------------- ----------
AR Argentina 2
AU Australia 3
BE Belgium 1
BR Brazil 2
[code]...
why the country table is missing in user_segments data dictionary table.
