Apr 20, 2012From last couple of days, the paste option is not working for me in the PLSQL developer. I selected the text in a SQL window, selected copy.
At the desired location when I right click paste option is not visible in a menu. If it is visible then also it did not paste. I tried Ctrl-V also.

Oct 14, 2011I was a very contented software tester with SQLPlus skills when I had access to the classic version. I guess all things must come to an end as we have started seeing our systems under test migrate to 11g...and along comes the DOS prompt SQL*Plus.
Where I could previously ignore the cries that TOAD was better, I no longer have my right-click copy/paste option, and I don't know alot about the DOS prompt command line.
Our test lab administrator would like us to start working with SQL Developer for our testing needs...I am guessing because it installs automatically with the database. I read TOAD has a bit more functionality at this point(correct?)
What is better for a general database user with background of classic SQL Plus- the dos prompt SQL Plus or the more visual SQL developer?

Like this i need to generate 4 files and zip it then send mail with attachement of that zip file.
Can we automate in PLSQL? If it is possible pls share the script.
Ex: select ename,eno,dept,deptno,sal,hiredate from employee;
ENAME ENO DEPT DEPTNO SAL HIREDATE like this we need to store the query result into .xls file.

Did some queries below for research.

Currently in our system a SQL script is automated trough TOAD DATA ANALYST (Contains 50 sql Select statement) and all the output are stored in a single excel file in multiple worksheet. All these sql statements are running sequentially. Now my requirement is
1) All the sql queries will be executed in database in parallel .
2) All the output of select statement will be stored in a single excel.
3) Idea using any Client but Toad is preferred.

Oct 17, 2013I have to export the results of a query to an Excel spreadsheet. Easy enough; however it is that I have to do it for each group. What I want to do is to be able to save it in a file that has the group number.
This is the query Lets say that I have the groups in the valiable RegionID: 11213, 21345 and 6537
@export on;
@export set filename="C:11213IP_claims_11213_.xls"
select * from mytable
where RegionID=11213;
How I can make it that I do not have to manually change the folder name in the direction and the where statement for each RegionID?

One database has following characterset settings:
NLS_CHARACTERSET WE8ISO8859P15
NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET AL16UTF16
and the following select statement results in multiple lines:
SQL> select INSTANCE_NAME,STATUS from v$instance;
INSTANCE_NAME
------------------------------------------------
STATUS
------------------------------------
BUP
OPEN
Another database has following characterset settings:
NLS_CHARACTERSET UTF8
NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET AL16UTF16
and the same select shows only a 2 line result:
SQL> select INSTANCE_NAME,STATUS from v$instance;
INSTANCE_NAME STATUS
---------------- ------------------------------------
HPSMP OPEN
Both databases are version 10.2.0.4 and both are running on HPUX 11.31.Why do we get this differents in showing the result?
Our problem is that the package-start scripts from HP, to start a database, check the result of the select statement above and if we have the multiline result the check gives an error and stops the package again.

Jun 3, 2011Anyway, I do not have much experience with databases (with MS Excel I do) but most of the problems I have been able to resolve by myself.I am using a TNS database.
I want to import data from SAP to the database, but we are having some problems with the connection and so on.Anyway, the only way to get the data into the database is to key them in manually or to import them.I have been using the import function (I had a lot of trouble with date formats) and it worked:I selected the "Import Data", the corresponsing file and then have been able to see an extract of the data. It worked and I have been able to import data from an Excel file to the database.
But an error occured: Some lines have not been copied.So I wanted to reimport them.But from this point of time I have not been able to open any Excel file anymore...When I select the file no extract/preview is given anymore and the file seems to be empty.I cannot select tabs of the Excel file or anything like this.
I restarted the computer, established a new connection to the database and even reinstalled my client.It seems that one setting has changed.I am still able to import the data from *.csv files, but this is not as comfortable that using Excel.

Apr 13, 2012We wrote a query to spool the results in TAB delimited flat file, Results are ok but when copied into excel the leading zeroes are getting wiped off.
Example:
Result: 0000123 and when copied into excel the value is just 123. I need to retain the value as it is 0000123.
Can we control it in the query itself rather than correcting the excel.

Setting of PATH environment variable is as below. If I remove below highlighted part I'm able to run SQL * Plus. I cannot remove this because it is required to run my application.

Dec 11, 2009We are using erwin to generate Er diagram.But with that tool unable to generate the ERD for specific object.Or suggest any other tool from which i can generate the ERD of specific object.
i.e. Lets take an example.
I have a table with one primary key and 10 foreign keys. So now if i select the main table the tool should draw the ERD based on the Constraints ('P' and 'R') so all the different table which have the relation those table should only display. Right now we are getting all the tables ERD(more than 1500 tables) which is not neccesary.
