Application Express :: Creating Forgot Password Page And Sending Mail To That User?

I need to create a forgot password page in which there will be two text box named user name and email id and user will provide his usename and email id in those text box. so apex will check that the provided name and email id are there in the data base and if email id corresponds to right user name then a mail will be send to that email Id containing auto generated password.
I am trying to login to the web version of application express [URL]... and get a message that my login is incorrect. I have verified that the ID and workspace are correct, but I do not remember what i set my password to the first time i logged in (account was created by my instructor). There is no "forgot password" or "reset password" link that shows on the page.
I have different public page (page1) and different page for authorized user(page5).Upon successful login after process validation ,computation it should navigate to authorized user page 5 but the branching does work it keeps on going to page 1 .
I'm trying to create a functionality on my application that lets the user change their password whenever they want or when the password gets expired.
But to do that, first I need a Branch to the page "Password Change" whenever the login procedure returns "Password Expire", but when the user has an expired password he can't access none of the pages of the application.
My other problem is:
Even if I can get the user to be redirect to the "Password Change" page, I would need a function that validate his current expired password, because in order to alter his own, he would need to inform his current password and the new one he desires. If I was using Apex Authentication that would be very easy I think, but I'm obligate to use Database Account Authentication.
I have written a procedure to send a pdf file through mail. The directory was created and registered in SYS.DBA_DIRECTORIES with read,write grant access. But im getting the below error.

I have learned procedure to send email with html attachment using UTL_SMTP protocol. But I could see the mailed attachment shows .Dat format. I need the attachment should go in .Html format.

We currently send mail via UTL_SMTP, we could easily switch to SMTP_MAIL but that is beside the point.
Our issue is that we have no way to find out what happens to mail we send to the MTA program, "smtpd". It is of my knowledge that the only information we can receive back from UTL_STMP is if the email address is invalid or if the email is going to be attempted to be forwarded by the MTA "smtpd".
We need the REAL data behind the scenes that "smtpd" is going to get after it attempts to forward an email from the database to GMail for example. We need "account does not exist" errors, and anything else that Google might have to say about us sending that address mail.
As far as I have researched there are no out of the box ways to send mail in this fashion.Could this be as simple as specifying the MX server for GMail? So for an email to a GMail account instead of connecting to localhost:25 for our SMTP server, we should connect to mx.googlemail.com:25?
how to setup receiving bounce messages through the database? We currently receive mail at the database box, and I think we can specify a special clob that will open one of the incoming mail files in RHEL to read for bounces.

USER1 sent a mail via UTL_SMTP successful whereas USER2 got the errors:

There is still the following fact:
USER1 has the role DBA, USER2 got the EXECUTE privilege to packages UTL_TCP, UTL_SMTP (GRANT from SYS).
IF the role DBA was granted to USER2 too then he couldt send emails just as well as USER1.

I have to embed a picture as a header with an e-mail content for my work, I google'd and tested with different options but I failed. (The JPG is stored in a table as a blog object) When I tried with the below code the JPG file is e-mailed as an attachment with an e-mail content, I want it to be displayed inside an e-mail.
I tried att_inline: TRUE option as well - still not working.

We are using Application Express 4.1.0.00.32 on Wondows XP and Oracle version is 10g. I've created a report in APEX and the user is insisting on putting a header on each page in PRINT of the report which should contain the "from date" and "to date", which are present on the select criteria on top.
Can I somehow add from_date and to_date items in Title so that when they print the report, they'll see the from and to dates in the title?Or is there someother way to do this. The report is an interactive report with a control break and user prints the report with file->print.
I am new to APEX and I am developing an application to manage Oracle database user accounts. I have a page (8) that has text items for the username and the database name. I have a submit button (this works fine) that will issue the ALTER USER... statement to reset the user's password and unlock the account. I have another button that should:
get the value of the username - P8_USERNAMEassign it to an application item - FIND_USER_IN_DBredirect to page in application - to page 11
The issue is that FIND_USER_IN_DB does not get populated and page 11

I the past when working with apex 3 I was able to work with apex mail send very nice. In apex 4.0 with oracle 11g ee I'm not able to send emails anymore.
Last error message in the queue is:
ORA-29279: SMTP permanent error: 550 through this server without authentication.
the smtp server has not been changed, the code is fine. How I can go further?
I am a new to Oracle, Installed Oracle 11g express edition. Also I had installed Oralce SQL Developer tool but i don't know the user name and password to connect.
what is my default instance? what is my default user name and password? How to connect ?
Basically I have requirement to generate a Word doc (letter to a Word mail merge) from a button/navigation link pressed on Apex page which will gather data from the report and fill in values in appropriate place in Word doc.

I have Fop installed and tested , PDF works great but excel and RTF is not reading the encoding on attachment download.I am aware of new PDF feature in 4.2.2 but upgrade is just not the scope right now.
Need to create a report based on date ranges and for this created a interactive report and two page item datepicker fields P15_fromdate and p15_todate. Report works fine with this criteria.But user wants one more field quarter(P15_quarter), When they select the quarter the range values has to get reset and as to get applied to report.
Issue here is unable to find a way to set the page range item values based on the quarter field selection
