Server Administration :: Total Data Growth Compared With Last Year
Sep 15, 2011Is there any way to tell the total data growth increase of some tables when compared with last year.

View 4 RepliesWe load large amount of data into multiple tables using sqlldr. Amount of data that we need to load varies according to the situation. We want to estimate the tablespace usage growth due to this data load, so we can verify/extend the tablespaces before the data load. Though, setting to autoextend will work in this case, We want to avoid extending the tablespace during sqlldr executing due to performance.
Our initial attempt was to note the tablespace size before and after executing the sqlldr and use the delta. But this delta was not consistent in different environments for the same amount of data. Different environments mean different oracle servers, different existing sizes of tablespaces, One data file Vs multiple data files etc.
How do we reliably estimate how much tablespace we need for the given amount of data?
From the view v$flash_recovery_area_usage, below output shows total no of files are 24+4=28.
FILE_TYPE NUMBER_OF_FILES
------------ ---------------
CONTROLFILE 0
ONLINELOG 0
ARCHIVELOG 24
BACKUPPIECE 4
IMAGECOPY 0
FLASHBACKLOG 0
From the view v$recovery_file_dest, it shows the no of files are 49.
NAME NUMBER_OF_FILES

Why there is discrimination?
is there any view in oracle for getting the total number of processes and currently used process in oracle? i am using oracle 11.2.0.1.0.
View 3 Replies View RelatedPrimary RAC and Standby RAC databases are using version 10.2.0.4. They are configured & controlled via Data Guard Broker. Currently, the observer runs from one of the Standby nodes. All are on Solaris x86 64bit OS version 10.
Now, I have to move Observer to 3rd DC and I am looking If I could use another OS for observer instead of same as DB OS version. Why? Our new infrastructure is on RHEL Linux, therefore, I would like to deploy observer once and then wait for existing databases to be upgraded and moved to RHEL. Also, i understand that database and observer software should be of same version e.g. 10g, 11g.
My question is what if i install & configure observer on RHEL ? The end result would be:
1. Primary DB: Solaris 10, Oracle Software binaries version 10.2.0.4
2. Secondary/Standby DB: Solaris 10, Oracle Software binaries version 10.2.0.4
3. Observer: RHEL 5.8, Oracle Software binaries version 10.2.0.4
Is it accepted mix configuration say e.g. to run for six months? Also, it would be grateful to know if there any license implications when running observer on a different node running no databases at all.
I am in need of a clarification regarding the file size growth in Physical Standby Database.Say we have 150 GB size of LIVE DB and we have created the same as in STDBY(150 GB).Will there be a growth in STDBY DB datafiles with respect to the LIVE DBOR only the logs are applied currently to the STDBY and the changes will only be reflecting when there is a switchover or failure scenario??
View 4 Replies View Related Recently we have upgraded to 11g(11.2.0.3) from 10.2.0.2 on AIX 5.1 enviornment. After upgrade, it has been noticed that CPU utilization is more while executing a program.
CPU is crossing 85% in 11g, in 10g it is 60% during the program execution. I have gone through the SQLs which are getting executed, elapsed time for all SQLs are less than in 10g. i.e. elaspsed for all SQLs in 11 is very less. in AWR report, DB CPU stood in the top.
I am writing a query where I'd like to pull one year's worth of data. Ideally I want to prompt for the END DATE and have the query go back in time one year from that date.
Here is what I've got after doing some research online... but It's not quite working for me.

178 200 03-mar-2004
11 200 11-jun-2012
101 200 19-jun-2012
i need sql querry to get current year records upto sysdate.i.e for example this year 2012 so i need all the 2012 year records upto sysdate.
my output like this.....
emp sal date
100 200 03-mar-2012
15 200 06-mar-2012
11 200 11-jun-2012
101 200 19-jun-2012(upto sysdate)
My problem is I need to get the data for every quarter for financial year and also I need data for every week for financial year. For example for financial year 2012-13, Apr2012 to Jun2012 would be Q1, Jul2012 to Sep2012 would be Q2 and so on. Total 8quarters should come upto Apr2013.In the same way 1st apr 2012 to 7th apr 2012 would be week1, 8th apr to 15th apr would be week2 and son on. How to write a query for this scenario in oracle.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have SQL Server database I would like to migrate into Oracle. The database supports a large application. It is around 10GB. I requested a new instance but was advised I would have to pay for that but if I asked for a new Schema it could go in our current company instance. I am fine with that since it wont cost more money if I just add a new schema to our Company Oracle instance. Just curious what is the advantage of getting a new instance compared to creating a new schema for 10 GB of data?I assume the advantage of creating a new instance is our Schema (in new instance) and work will have its own space/house and can grow in size without any issues?

according to me, v$datafile can be use to know growth in database in terms of datafiles added in past months as per creation_time. but hows about those existing datafiles whose size has been re size more .
Whats your inputs on this ??
I am using toad to output the details of the database. (I need these details in a format which i can then import into excel) However, When I run sporadic individual records through my query, the results come back correct and as expected. But when I run the full data set through my query a lot of the records have different values than what they do when run individually!
Ive spent all day on this script and its really a hack of various other cursors and scripts brought together. Its driving me mad as my code doesn't seem to be wrong (since the results are correct when a single record is run) yet there must be something wrong as my full data set does not return correctly!
We have an Oracle Server database of Size 50 GB having 10 GB Data. And Planning to have a new Database Server of 200GB . So my question is after moving all the 10 GB data to 200 GB Database Server, will the performance of the system come down? Will it reduce the speed?

how to check the object(table, index) growth day wise?
I need tablespace name, tablespace total size and used size of every tablespace for my 106 databases. bcz I am planning to prepare tablespace growth report for my 106 dbs. If I have the 2 months data from now in xl sheet, then I can predict the growth rate of every tablespace accurate almost.
it is not a easy task to fill the space detail manually in xl sheet everyday.Hence I need some mechanism to do this activity automatically.
I know we can collect this detail in a csv file every day while running the script. but is there any mechanism to store these detail in a particular xl sheet one by one column automatically?
How can i get the total time when using export a table?
for example:
exp userid=test/test file=d: est.dmp tables=(tb_test)
The developer team wants to test their application. For the same they need some data which resides at oracle 8i instance. However they are not able to create a dblink between 11g and 8i as this is not supported by oracle.
Now they want the data to be refreshed from 8i to 11g by exp/imp.
Apart from exp and imp is there is any other alternatives?
RAW datatype in oracle, any problems we will face using this datatype,Reason is we have column which stores session id in RAW datatype using sys_guid, drawbacks in using this datatype.

Why Datapump estimate so much than actual size?
After importing my dump, i have noticed that ARGUMENT$ segment taken more than 9 GB out of my total SYSTEM table space.I belive ARGUMENT$ table is used only to store procedure/package parameter details. But I am not sure Why it has taken more space.
Is there any way we can reduce the SYSTEM table space? using with the below details?
Import Details:
--------------
1) Imported using IMP DP. List of parameters used are userid, logfile, dumpfile, directory, job_name and remap_schema.
2) Dump file size is 3GB
3) The below list will be no. of objects imported using my dump.
OBJECT_TYPE COUNT(1)

DATABASE LINK 1
FUNCTION 246
INDEX 4742

4) The below list will be amount of space occupied by the segments in the SYSTEM.

col segment_name form a15 word wrap
col segment_type form a15 word wrap
select owner,segment_name,segment_type

Now i have one problem. I have two database oracle 10g and install on two server (call is A and B). I already create database link between two database. Each database has over 200 tables.
Basically structure two database is same, but database A have data real time, database B is stand by server. Now i want to synchronize all data of database A to database B. What should i do?
I need store history for two tables in my system. I thought that Flashback Data Archive will be the best option. There is also another ways to do this but don't focus on this. I need to to this by FDA (Flashback Data Archive);
So my prerequisite was to create tablespace and flash back archive, and alter table to be archived.
create tablespace audit_archive datafile 'd:oradata etaaudit_archive.ora' size 100M;
create flashback archive audit_flash_archive
tablespace audit_archive quota 10G retention 10 year;
alter table teta_admin.t_prac flashback archive audit_flash_archive;
and everything works fine but on sys user.
i can query this table using "as of timestamp" clause
select prac_id, imie, imie_2, nazwisko, nr_ew from teta_admin.t_prac as of timestamp to_timestamp('2011-08-23 08:20:00','yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss')
but final construction of idea was to create additional user (interface), grant select on teta_admin.t_prac object and query archive data from interface user. and this is point of my failure. this don't work on new user.
interface user have such sys privs:
SQL> SELECT * FROM dba_sys_privs
2 WHERE grantee = 'INTERFACE';
GRANTEE PRIVILEGE ADM
------------------------------ ---------------------------------------- ---
INTERFACE CREATE SESSION NO
and table privs:
SQL> SELECT * FROM dba_tab_privs
2 WHERE grantee = 'INTERFACE';
GRANTEE OWNER TABLE_NAME GRANTOR PRIVILEGE
------------------------------ ------------------------------ ------------------------------ ------------------------------ --------------------
INTERFACE TETA_ADMIN T_PRAC TETA_ADMIN INSERT
INTERFACE TETA_ADMIN T_PRAC TETA_ADMIN DELETE
INTERFACE TETA_ADMIN T_PRAC TETA_ADMIN ALTER
INTERFACE TETA_ADMIN T_PRAC TETA_ADMIN FLASHBACK
INTERFACE TETA_ADMIN T_PRAC TETA_ADMIN SELECT
what i need to do in order to query this flashback table from interface user. when i try to do this from this user oracle says ORA-00942.
I am getting an error through by application when i am trying to access a screen.
Error:No data to read from socket.
What could be the reasons for this error.
We are planning to migrate data from an application called clintrace to another application called argus safety. Both the applications are related to pharmacovigilence safety operation. Both the applications functionality are similar. So both the database are having the same data though the table structures might be different. Both the database are oracle clintrace db is 9i and argus db is 11g.

We are suffering from very bad application response for last few days, when i try to check and drill down, where the actual contention is? I came to know that there may be contention on data blocks, which may be a prime reason for degraded performance. Herewith i'm pasting my actual stats of gathered from v$waitstat. I gone through some of asktom docs and find that there may be a problem with freelist or segment space management. My data tablespace is segment space management = Manual.
My main question is
1) Should i need to increase freelist value (Right now my value is 1)
2) Or i have to move on segment space management = auto

1) What is PHYSICAL/LOGICAL Corruption.
2) How it occurs.
3) Will RMAN works on both the types of corruption or only Physical (My senior told it works on both).
1)i have 2 SWP TABLES. while dropping a column, i am getting error -
ORA-39726: unsupported add/drop column operation on compressed tables.
2) when i checked compression status, those were not compressed. But as per our code standard, SWP tables should not be in compress mode.
OWNER TABLE_NAME COMPRESS COMPRESS_FOR
------------------------------ ------------------------------ -------- ------------
NOVAR PAYMENT_SWP DISABLED
OWNER TABLE_NAME COMPRESS COMPRESS_FOR
------------------------------ ------------------------------ -------- ------------
NOVAR PREPAYMENT_SWP DISABLED
3) as a workaround, i compressed these 2 SWP tables with OLTP option, and then i was able to drop the column from these 2 SWP tables.
4) Below statement is correct or not ?
IF A TABLE USING BLOCK LEVEL COMPRESSION, THEN this error will come - ORA-39726: unsupported add/drop column operation on compressed tables.
if above statement is correct, then how to find out whether table data is using block level compression ?
5) we have DBMS_COMPRESSION.GET_COMPRESSION_TYPE. using this i just tried to find out, but i am getting "1" as output. I am not getting the exact meaning of it.
confirm what is the conclusion on this ?
