I want to install oracle 11.2.0.2 single instance database on AIX 6.1, does oracle recommend separate OS user for grid infrastructure and for oracle install? how many groups I need to have for these users like oinstall, dba etc?
database administration , we are planning to use amazon cloud database , this database does not allow us to login to server machine , unfortunately amazon don't provide ssh to this machine , in general for doing any of adminstration task on the database will there be need to log into the machine ? we can always log in through toad or any other sql client but we cannot do ssh to server..general can this limitation effect administration ?
I have installed oracle 11g Release 11.1.0.1 on windows server 2008.I access this server from a client machine running on winXP through SQL PLUS. I wanted to shutdown and start DB server from this client machine. Accordingly i issued shutdown immediate command from SQLPLUS.
Now when i tried to start the DB with "STARTUP NOMOUNT" command i received error 12514. I understand this error means that the listener received a request to establish connections to a database but since DB services are not up and running, hence the error. So my first question is how do I resolve this error.
Continuing further, i tried to re-connect to the database as sys, and i received another error ORA-01041. So, my second question is why did i receive this error and again how can i resolve it
may be you can point me to relevant reference in Oracle documentation) how can i start and stop oracle from a client machine using SQL interface in CLI mode and windows environment and avoid this error.
I Configured an ASM instance and a disk group with two disk for normal redundancy.
> Here .. each disk is 2gb
The disk group has two disks...
SQL> select group_number, name, type, total_mb, free_mb 2 from v$asm_diskgroup;
GROUP_NUMBER NAME TYPE TOTAL_MB FREE_MB ------------ ------------------------------ ------ ---------- ---------- 1 DATA NORMAL 4000 3898
as the group has two way mirroring (Normal redundancy) How much data (2 GB or 4 GB) can i keep in the disk group? My conception is I can keep 2 GB data in the disk group... (as the disk group keeps every extent in another disk as mirror)
We have quite a number of sessions in database MES (production) coming from another machine.
From v$session, the program is oracle@WID27 (TNS V1-V3). This WID27 (hostname) consists of quite a number of development databases inside. We have to trace which jobs are actually triggering this, as WID27 are not suppose to connect to production databases.
How can we tell whether the sessions came in is from dblink or from the machine itself?
I am trying to find the unix process for one of my application in the database but I am unable to view the same. To simulate, I did the following.
1. My database runs on different server. 2. I invoked "sqlplus" from another unix box to login to the database. 3. I found that the process id (ps -ef |grep sqlplus). 4. When I execute the below mentioned query it does not display the process id that I am looking for. But the osuser, username, program and machine details are correct. How can I know the process details from the database?
SELECT SYS.GV_$SESSION.OSUSER, SYS.GV_$SESSION.USERNAME, SYS.GV_$PROCESS.SPID, SYS.GV_$SESSION.MACHINE, SYS.GV_$SESSION.PROGRAM, SYS.GV_$PROCESS.PROGRAM ,SYS.GV_$SESSION.SQL_ID FROM SYS.GV_$PROCESS, SYS.GV_$SESSION WHERE SYS.GV_$PROCESS.ADDR=SYS.GV_$SESSION.PADDR and SYS.GV_$SESSION.USERNAME='TEST' and SYS.GV_$SESSION.MACHINE like '%hostname%'
In Process of upgrading Oracle EBS 12.0.4 to 12.1.1 I updated the $IAS_ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/jdk to jdk 6u24. After replacing the original jdk with jdk 6u24 when I attempted to start the apps adoacorectl.sh failed with below error.
Quote:ld.so.1: /d4/app/oracle/apps/12.0.0/vdd700/web/10.1.3/appsutil/jdk/bin/java: fatal: libjli.so: open failed: No such file or d irectory
I followed below steps to update the jdk 1. extracted the jdk-6u24-solaris-sparcv9.tar.Z to $IAS_ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/jdk 2. Copied lib from old jdk to $IAS_ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/jdk 3. Copied lib from oldjdk/jre to $IAS_ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/jdk/jre 4. The java was not infact in jdk/bin rather it was /bin/sparcv9 so I copied them to /jdk/bin. The same way copied the executables from /jdk/jre/bin/sparcv9 to /jdk/jre/bin .
I want my application to provide an end-user with ability to upload the files from their machine to SFTP server directly. So far, I have managed to write the function which uses java source and allows to upload files from the database. It works just fine.
The function looks as follows:
FUNCTION SFTP_CMD ( V_USER IN VARCHAR2, V_PASS IN VARCHAR2, V_HOST IN VARCHAR2,
[code]..
where V_FILE_SRC represents location of the file to be uploaded. The thing is that the FILE BROWSE apex item does not allow to specify the file location, it identifies it somehow automatically, when you press the button 'Choose file'. The question is how can I catch file's path, so that I can pass it to V_FILE_SRC parameter in my function? Should I write my own plugin? or hack FILE BROWSE item? =)
i am using oel 5.5 with oracle 10g release 2 installed in it . I am unable to run two different instances on same machine how can do that? I changed the ORACLE_SID then i startup one instance is starting but when i change the sid again and tried to startup it shows me that oracle is already started shut it down first.
Is there any way to startup two different instances?
working on setting up connection between a Windows 2008 server and a pair of Oracle 11g DBs in a RAC Cluster. One Database (let's say DatabaseA) is in one data center, and the other (DatabaseB) is an a secondary, backup database. The RAC Cluster is all set up, working fine, etc. However, I Need to set up the machine.config file on my Windows Server, to go only connect to DatabaseA, unless it fails, in which case, we want it to connect to DatabaseB. Think we could do this if the host app server was Linux/Unix, but it is windows, and I just don't have the background as to the parameters to set up in the machine.config file. They are similar, but different, and we want a very specific behavior (use DatabaseA, unless fails, then DatabaseB). Application is .NET 4.0 app.
i have created an another instance on a single machine i got error when starting up a new one - error starting up database in exclusive mode so i shutdown older database instance , to start new one now is it possible to run both instance parallel?
I have database in single server. I already have ORACLE_SID=stagedb. So i want to create new sid and named as proddb. Is it possible have multiple db in single server? This server not running as RAC. It run as single only.
1)How a single control file is enough to have all the transaction's SCN no for older transactions.
Eg - A transaction has the SCN 01 and after a month the new transaction's SCN is 502. Is the control file holding all those (01 to 502) SCN in it or just will have the latest SCN no (ie - 502).
is it possible to login as SYSDBA in oracle forms from normal logon procedure?
logon(sys_acc, sys_pwd||'@'||:GLOBAL.db_conn);
The reason behind this is to make a form which will alter user's password. But all the users are in SYS account and it is necessary to login as SYSDBA in forms to execute alter statement.
A single master schema where many developers are accessing. all share same password.
now i would like to trace all the changes made by each users. so i create a individual users for all and grant permission to access that schema.do i have a possibility of auditing the changes did by each user for that particular schema
Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.7.0 - 64bit Production PL/SQL Release 11.1.0.7.0 - Production CORE 11.1.0.7.0 Production TNS for Linux: Version 11.1.0.7.0 - Production NLSRTL Version 11.1.0.7.0 - Production
My os version is
Linux damdat01 2.6.18-128.7.1.el5 #1 SMP Wed Aug 19 04:00:49 EDT 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
My database is OLP system.
My question is what are the advantages and disadvantages having one single tablespace versus multiple tablespace?
Easy to maintain when you have single tablespace. but hard to track the IO issues if you have one single tablespace.
, I have a few doubts in Normal,High and External redundancy levels in ASM concept. External - No failure group. No mirroring. Normal - Two Way Mirroring. One failure group. High - Three Way Mirroring. Two failure group. 1.
above mentioned 3 types in correct.2. My main question is what is the minimum number of disks needed in Disk group creation in Normal and External redundancy??
A DB server (Oracle 11g) on Linux will support a Web Application Server (Java based) for hosting a public web site. For sending multiple INSERT statements over from the Java Server to Oracle Server, I have two ways to do it:
1) Wrap those insert statements together and send it over with one connection to Oracle
2) Send each insert statement separately to Oracle. As the result, multiple insert statements are sent and accordingly multiple connections to Oracle are needed.
Advantage of option 1 is just using one Connection. Disadvantages are that Oracle will then need to parse the statement string into multiple separate insert statements, and then loop through them to execute each. This may be costly in CPU sense.
While the option 2 may have quicker execute of each insert statement, but will need to create multiple connections. If the number of users is known and stable (such as intranet), I would prefer option 1; while for the internet there could hundreds concurrent users at the peak, I lean towards the option 2.
We've been administering a multiple instance production dB server with 3 different versions of Oracle installed.Currently, each of Oracle version had corresponding listener.Oracle 9i had 2 instances, 10g 6 instances & 11g 2 instances also.how I can integrate this 3 listeners into 1.
We are planning to migrate data from an application called clintrace to another application called argus safety. Both the applications are related to pharmacovigilence safety operation. Both the applications functionality are similar. So both the database are having the same data though the table structures might be different. Both the database are oracle clintrace db is 9i and argus db is 11g.
