I have a table with VARCAHAR2 data type column, I am unable to update that column with the following data.

I am getting the error "ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended"
i have one table emp in this table i have the column eno,ename,hiredate and i have data also in this table.
my eno colum data type is number so now i have to change this colum data type from number to varchar2.
if yes how can when i am trying to change this colum data type i got this error

I have a task to update one of the rows in a table (having only 2 columns, number and long) which is long data type. We are on Oracle 10g. Not sure how to use update for a long data type column.
I have tried using dbms_metadata_util.long2varchar, but still not getting what I want.

why final queries top 3 rows r different than inner query ?

We are working on a performance tuning aspect, where in a table has a LONG datatype and number of round trips are increasing based on the number of rows fetched.i.e one round trip for every row.
Background.
1. created a table with LONG data type.
2. inserted bulk load of data.
3. set auto trace on and executed below tests..
SQL> select count(*) from test_long;
COUNT(*)
----------
6110
SQL> desc test_long
Name Null? Type
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
ID NUMBER
TESTLONG LONG
[code].....
but on LONG column, irrespective of the array size the round trips does not reduce.
I want to insert XML data into my ( Oracle 11G Release 1 ) XMLType table using OCCI. I'm getting
ORA-01461: can bind a LONG value only for insert into a LONG column
My XML data size is around 1.5 to 2MB. I have also tried using setMaxParamSize before calling the setString method. But, still I'm getting the same exception.
How to resolve this issue?
Is there some functions to convert the long type field data to varchar2 type?

The get Response procedure is a wrapper procedure exposed to Java to pass values. The Process Response procedure is a main procedure where all logics and business rules are handled.
The Problem is:
How can I pass the values from get Response procedure to Process Response procedure. So that rules and validations are applied. Please note the p_ticket_tab may have many ticket numbers corresponding to p_call_request_id.
Values E.g. :

Now am on a need to take sum of data from one table but three different condition with three column.I give example Lets consider I have a table called Sales in which it has three columns
1.Dept
2.sales_amt
3.status
There are 3 different flag for status A,B & C.I want display data in the following format in five columns.

1 10 60 30
total 40 110 50
But data is stored in the table in rows like

1 50 B
1 20 C like all rows.
For this I wrote union operation and sum.Am
creating a view for this with there columns dept,Sales_A,Sales_B & Sales C for sum of data.My view is
select dept,Sum(sales_amt),0,0 from sales where status='A' group by dept union
select dept,0,sum(sales_amt),0 from sales where status='B' group by dept union
select dept,0,0,sum(sales_amt) from sales where status='C' group by dept
Am assigning 0 for other two status of data because i want the data to be displayed on different columns based on row level condition.The view will return data like
Dept Sales_A Sales_B Sales_C
1 30 0 0
1 10 0 0
1 0 50 0
1 0 60 0
1 0 0 20
1 0 0 30
So finally am using sum function again and selection total sum of value for each status from this view.So by using union operation how can i display data from different condition of data into seperate columns.
