I want to run a query to generate command to rename ASM files:
This is how the ASM data looks:
+DATA/db1/datafile/report.180.248540158
This is how I want the command to look like:
SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 1 TO '/u02/data/dev/db1/report.180.dbf';
How can I write the query, using SUBSTR and INSTR to generate the command:
e.g. - SELECT 'SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE '||FILE#||' TO '''||'/u02/......
To look like:
SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 1 TO '/u02/data/dev/db1/report.180.dbf';

I am in the process of recovering a database from an ASM environment to a non-ASM environment using RMAN. I've got a query to generate the command to RENAME the file:
SELECT 'ALTER DATABASE RENAME FILE '''||MEMBER||''' TO '''||'/u01/data/dev'||
SUBSTR(MEMBER,
INSTR(MEMBER, '/', -1, 1),
INSTR(MEMBER, '.', 1, 1) - INSTR(MEMBER, '/', -1, 1)) ||
DECODE(SUBSTR (MEMBER, 1, INSTR(MEMBER, '/', 1, 1) -1), '+DATA', 'a', '+FRA', 'b', 'c') ||'.log'';'
FROM V$LOGFILE;
When I run the query, this is an example of the result I get:
ALTER DATABASE RENAME FILE '+FRA/db1/onlinelog/group_3.259.766075171' TO '/u01/data/dev/group_3b.log';
ALTER DATABASE RENAME FILE '+DATA/db1/onlinelog/group_1.262.766075829' TO '/u01/data/dev/group_1a.log';
But I want to replace the "group" with "redo" and get the below result:
ALTER DATABASE RENAME FILE '+FRA/db1/onlinelog/group_3.259.766075171' TO '/u01/data/dev/redo_3b.log';
ALTER DATABASE RENAME FILE '+DATA/db1/onlinelog/group_1.262.766075829' TO '/u01/data/dev/redo_1a.log';

I am trying to restore a backup from a live server to a dev server. Have moved nackup sets. Created a windows service to match the old sid on live system. copied the pfile from live and changed the locations of the folders to suit dev. set oracle_sid to the new sid(as created to match live)
connected to rman
startup nomount
set dbid to the live number
restore controlfile
alter database mount
catalog'd all the backupsets
[code]....
but it fails when it tries the restore .. see below ..The path it is showing is the old path from the live server, so it appears to eb ignoring my set newname statements even though they succeeded earlier - should be restoring them to d:oracleoradatasun43dev ? Does the whole thing have to be put inside one run block or can I put bits in one run block and other bits outside of it etc?
RMAN> restore database;
Starting restore at 14-FEB-12

I have got requirement to generate a .XML format of a select query in a particular folder in server. The XML coding of a select query i got through DBMS_XMLGEN.getXML package.
SELECT DBMS_XMLGEN.getXML('SELECT * FROM EMPL_NEW') FROM dual
but through forms i am unable to create it!! and the result output should be saved as .xml in a particular folder in server.

Structure is like above. There is a Head Quarter (HQ1) under which we have different division like (DIV1 and DIV2). Under division we have different location where our shopping stores are operating and transactions are done (LOC1, LOC2 for DIV1) and (LOC3 for DIV2) respectively.
DESIRED OUTPUT
User can generate reports at two levels i.e. Head Quarter level and Division Level.
When user wants report at Head Quarter Level :
Page 1 (Should Display as below)

Below Query I understand is improper wrt syntax. Need to modify query to fetch correct result for me.

I need to generate a select query in runtime and store the results of it into a file.Each time the column name and table name in the query will differ.Now im able to generate the select query through for cursor but problem is to store the results to the file.I tried using plsql table,im able to get the values to that table and store the results to a file,but the results of the query is more then 10000 lines (it might increase also)where only 4000 characters where able to store in the plsql table.so rest of them are not stored in the file.

we are running SAP application against oracle database. say, if I use brspace or brtools (from SAP side) to shutdown or startup database or collect stats, does this mean it not recommend to use oracle command to shutdown/start & collect stats?

I have the following select query that works perfectly fine. Returns 25 rows based on the descending order of the price.But, I want add one more expression to this list of columns in this query (apart from customer_id).
the expression should look like Cust-01 for the first customer from the below query all the way to Cust-25 for the last customer.But how can I can generate 01 to 25 in oracle?

I am using expdp command to export the table by specifying Query parameter. But i am unable to export the table based on the condition.

I have a requirement to generate a report in csv file, attached scripts, sql query and actual output and expected output.
In the query, I am hard-coding month&year, when I run in march 2012 it should include march 2012 in output (similarly for every month going forward), to do that I have to modify my query to include march 2012 & preceding months in every individual query, this report needs to be generated once every month.
I am looking for a generic solution which does not need to be modified every month, also in the output,under "Mail File" data should be in ascending order, in the "Total Mailed" all the months should have grand total.

I need a "solution", guidance to a problem I have to solve. I have different letters with a value associate to it like
A:10, B:20, ..., G:250 and I have a Target to reach TARGET= 90
and I need to find among all letters I have which combination is equal or closest to my target.
A:10
B:20
C:20
D:20
E:30
F:40
G:250
IF there is more than one solution possible, the first found is perfect. With my example I can reach 90 with different combinations:
A+B+C+F
A+B+D+F
A+C+D+F
B+C+D+E
B+E+F
C+E+F
D+E+F
To complicate the things I have up to 10 different letters that need to combine to match my target. If there is no combination that exactly match my target, the closest higher combination is picked.

I want to be able to generate unpivot for 1 row of data dynamically.what i am trying to do is based on this linkI just need to be able to pass the table name in format : SCHEMA_NAME.TABLE_NAME and the query should unpivot the data for 1 row. (Will always be 1 row, just need to transpose the column names and the values for 1 row of data)

during the migration to 11g we had a problem with pdf font.
In 10g oracle report the pdf are generated correctly while in 11g all the character are shrink in the pdf file.
I attached the same file generate with oracle reports 10g.

The block of the hour must be 1 hour (8-9,9-10 and so on)
how generate the hours range.
My database oracle version is 8i. (I know that is very old but I can't change because It´s a legacy system).
