Pass Variables For UserID And Password To Sqlplus In Windows From Text File?

Jul 23, 2013

I would like to store user-id, password and the TNS-Entry in a small text file and pass them to a script to log in and execute another script on the database from Windows.

Example of the text file samp.txt that stores user info:

username=Jdoe
password=candybar
db_sid:orcl

main script main.bat is as follows:

--read the samp.txt do not know how to do it

sqlplus -s &username/&password@&db_sid @db_info.sql

db_info.sql contents:

column tm new_value file_time noprint
select to_char(sysdate, 'YYYYMMDD') tm from dual ;
spool C:\server\DB_Report_&file_time..log
select * from v$instance;
spool off;

Application Express :: Apex_util.prepare_url With Translated Applications?

Oct 21, 2013

using apex_util.prepare_url with translated applications:Why is checksum in translated application different from checksum in original application?Is there any way to control which checksum apex_url.prepare_url function will calculate?I have application in two languages English (en) and Slovene (sl). Link with English checksum would work if I set Application primary language to English and link with Slovene checksum would work if I set Application primary language to Slovene. Application language is derived from Application primary language. The real problem for me is sometimes I get “English” version of checksum when apex_url.prepare_url is called from “Slovene” version of application.  As I mentioned before “English checksum” doesn’t work if Application primary language is set to Slovene.

Enterprise Manager :: DBCA Does Not Recognize Database

Mar 28, 2010

On our test database server, we restore a copy of the production database from the rman backup. The process worked well and we could connect and do the processing with sqlplus, or any other third party tools like Toad.

Strange enough, Database Configuration Assistant (DBCA) does not recognize it. So if we like to drop the database from the DBCA, it is not there. Also we could not get the DBCONSOLE to work with.

The all powerful command: emca -repos recreate generates a list of errors.

Application Express :: Recognize A Change Of A Field Value?

Aug 21, 2012

I created a table (software defect details) and an interactive report on it. Users can go to the details form where they can manage many information: STATUS is one of them and they can change it or not.

I would like to send an email when SUBMIT botton is pressed only if field STATUS has changed. How can I detect this? I mean, I wrote a procedure in order to send an email and it works, but it runs always: I cannot set it running only when the content of STATUS_ID has changed.

how to understand if a field value has changed and, if possible what the old values was? I know how to do that by using a trigger (:old.status, :new.status) but I don't when using an APEX procedure.

SQL & PL/SQL :: Local Variables Are Bind Variables

Apr 27, 2012

Which of the below is considered a bind variable. In example one proc. Test the parameter p1 is directly used in the query, so this can be considered as a bind variable.

Is that true about the second proc. where p1 is assigned to a local variable v1 , or this needs hard parsing because v1 is not a bind variable ?

Create or replace procedure test(p1 IN VARCHAR2,p_refcursor OUT SYS_REFCURSOR) IS
BEGIN
OPEN p_refcursor FOR select * from Test_tab WHERE item=p1;
END;

Windows :: Create ASM Disk Did Not Recognize Unallocated Partition

Jan 21, 2012

This is the first time I've got a job in Windows platform, I've worked as DBA with Unix/Linux still now.

I received one command: Install Oracle 11gR2 on Windows 7 Enterprise, so that, I plan to create one Partition (really, not mounted, this is Unallocated partition by Partition Magic 3rd software) which will contain datafile in it.

And, when I install 11gR2 Grid, the step ASM creation did not recognize the Unallocated Partition I created.

RAC & Failsafe :: Cluster Does Not Recognize DBA Group Membership Assignment To User

Aug 18, 2011

It appears that the Oracle RAC cluster does not recognize the 'dba' group membership assignment to a user, unless it is assigned as the user's primary group.This also only affects newly created users, older users do not have this issue.

This affects us in the following way:

We are unable to create new cluster resources with the SAPCTL tool with the <sid>adm user.

When we try to create a resource using sapctl as the <sid>adm user we receive the following error:

CRS-0259: Owner of the resource does not belong to the group. SAP ABAP VIP creation failed.

The description of this error is that the resource owner (<sid>adm) is not a member of the group defined by 'osdbagrp' (what the cluster expects group membership for os users to control cluster resources), in our case this group is 'dba'.This is despite the user definitely being a member of the group.

Resource creation workaround:We are able to get around the resource creation by creating the resources either as root user, or by assigning 'dba' as <sid>adm's primary group.However, although we are able to control the VIP cluster resource, we are unable to control the other SAP enqueue resources as we assume that they need to be created by a user with 'sapsys' as a primary group (i.e. the resources do not start or it appears that there is not even an attempt to start the resources as there are no SAP startup logs created).

We have attempted multiple variations of creating and controlling cluster resources: changing <sid>adm primary group, changing cluster resource permissions, with nothing working for us.

The bottom line is that we need to be able to create these sapctl resources with a <sid>adm user that has 'sapsys' as a primary group while also being a member of the 'dba' group.

Application Express :: Copying A Translated Application In APEX?

Sep 17, 2013

I have a translated application in Apex, my Apex version is 4.2.1.00.08. The application is in production version, many people are using it on daily basis. The application's primary language is English, and it has translations for 5 languages. Everything is working fine now; even if there are minor changes in the application, we are able to seed it, download the XLIFF files and than publish the modifications into all translations. Simple so far.  My problem is that I wanted to 'clone' the application including its translations to a new one since I plan to rebuild some parts of it. I want to keep the current version untouched, not to bother users. The new application should be in the same workspace, with a new ID. I have tried a couple of approaches: Copy the primary application enabling the option 'copy translation' - this creates a new app, and also seems to create new translated applications, which are empty (not seeded, not published). Export the primary application and than import it with a manually defined new application ID. Than do the same with the translated applications and set the proper IDs in the translation mapping part of Shared components > Translation. When I try to run the primary application, it is working, but for translated versions... Only an error saying that the application page does not exist. The purpose is to clone the whole thing by keeping the connection between the primary and the translated applications, so that if I change something in the primary application, it can be seeded into the translated ones later. In the same time I want to keep translations as well, since there are thousands of strings...

Application Express :: Prefix Text Entered Into Text Area With Userid And Timestamp?

Sep 12, 2012

Have got basic form on a table and have a textarea which holds Notes added by user.

So Notes database field is updated on Save / Apply changes button being pressed.But would really like any text added / appended to the Notes field to be prefixed by userid and date / timestamp.

Is it possible via dynamic actions or Javascript to have any new text added / typed to be auto prefixed as per above.

Would only want the first key press in the filed to trigger the auto-prefix and if added text was deleted then the auto prefix to be deleted as well ?? If user doesn't press Save / Apply changes obviously want to leave existing Notes as is.

Text :: Index Memory Parameter For Oracle Text Indexes

Sep 17, 2013

I am on Oracle 11.2.0.3 on Linux and have implemented Oracle Text.I created Oracle Text indexes with default setting. However in an oracle white paper I read that the default setting may not be right. Here is the excerpt from the white paper by Roger Ford:URL....(Part of this white paper below....)Index Memory.

As mentioned above, cached $I entries are flushed to disk each time the indexing memory is exhausted. The default index memory at installation is a mere 12MB, which is very low. Users can specify up to 50MB at index creation time, but this is still pretty low. This would be done by a CREATE INDEX statement something like: CREATE INDEX myindex ON mytable(mycol) INDEXTYPE IS ctxsys.context PARAMETERS ('index memory 50M');  Allow index memory settings above 50MB, the CTXSYS user must first increase the value of the MAX_INDEX_MEMORY parameter, like this:  begin ctx_ adm. set_ parameter('max_index_memory', '500M'); end;  The setting for index memory should never be so high as to cause paging, as this will have a serious effect on indexing speed. On smaller dedicated systems, it is sometimes advantageous to temporarily decrease the amount of memory consumed by the Oracle SGA (for example by decreasing DB_CACHE_SIZE and/or SHARED_POOL_SIZE) during the index creation process.

Once the index has been created, the SGA size can be increased again to improve query performance." (End here from the white paper excerpt)My question is:

1) To apply this procedure (ctx_adm.set_parameter) required me to login as CTXSYS user. Is that right? or can it be avoided and be done from the application schema? This user CTXSYS is locked by default and I had to unlock it. Is that ok to do in production?

2) What is the value that I should use for the max_index_memory should it be 500 mb - my SGA is 2 GB in Dev/ QA and 3GB in production. Also in the index creation what is the value I should set for index memory parameter  - I had left that at default but how should I change now? Should it be 50MB as shown in example above?

3) The white paper also refer to rebuilding an index at some interval like once in a month:   ALTER INDEX DR$index_name$X REBUILD ONLINE; We are on Oracle 11g and the white paper was written in 2003.

Using Variables In A Trigger?

The cursor HH_ATTR_CSR returns a set of values and I'm iterating each values using a loop, but when comparing the post and pre values, I have to use the variable(HH_ATT_VAR) instead of column names.Usually we give it as (re.XXXX_YYYY) but the cloumn names has to be given in the form of a variable got from the cursor like (re.HH_ATT_VAR).In doing so, I'm getting an error as "bad bind variable" So,Is there any to view the old and the new value in the local?
